  • Gold laden rocks melted down and assayed for their precious metal content. This is a whirlwind of rock crushing, smelting gold and cupelling to finish out the gold prospecting season. On the final smelt of the year, the gold bead froze midway through the cupellation process, and we had to quickly figure out a way to "un-freeze" it. This simple gold recovery method can be used by anyone to recover free milling gold from rock.

      Nice, that should work great. WD40 and other oils can do the trick also.

    We just smelted our first going token. Took a video of it if you want to check out some real amateurs. Nothing like the pro level you are showing.
    Great video. Thanks !

    Great video! I especially liked the end when you set random things on fire. What does frozen bead mean?

    • @ColoradoGoldCamp
      @ColoradoGoldCamp  2 роки тому +3

      Hehe, I have to keep myself entertained! It was still that hot about 5 minutes after it was taken out of the furnace👀 Frozen bead: During the cupellation process, the blob of precious metals + lead did not purify correctly causing it to "freeze/lock" up. When this happens, the base metals contained will no longer be absorbed into the cupel.

      It was a pretty intense non stop 2 days of smelting! Awesome man, you could always go hit the pile and highgrade out 20 buckets of the best looking ore! I might have to pick your brain one of these days about MotherLodeCountry.

      It took around 10hrs of actual work time to process these 4 samples. 2 of them are promising. I've been forcing myself to go through my stockpiled samples before I forget where they came from. The Bonanza will come!

    Have you ever used mercury and a retort? I've only seen the process once.Seemed to work well with a ball mill.

      Yes I have and do use one on occasion. Just to treat amalgam not for recovery of fines.

    I still can't see how you achieve full collection of your precious metals with just bits and pieces of lead added to the bottom of the crucible. Some of the gold i assayed would never migrate to the bottom of the molten flux. That's why we use litharge, as the lead oxide converts to lead, the tiny droplets "rain down" through the flux and grab the p/m's on its way thru.
