This mv is a great depiction of depression. With him trying to crawl to the door/light/his innocent self, I relate a lot. I like how it showed the accident that caused him to have that surgery. He's such a genius. Amygdala is the part of your brain which controls your fight/flight/freeze response, so he's asking his to get him out of there. My amygdala is all broken lol. I'm a very anxious person who suffers from social & generalized anxiety disorder, with panic attacks. Yoongi's words always are relatable & helpful to me. I'm sorry you experienced similar things to what he was talking about. 💜 borahae 💜
The amygdala is an almond shaped piece of the brain, which stores the trauma of events that happen to us. ALMOND is a book that RM and Suga recommended. It is about a boy whose amygdala is damaged/not working properly, and the boy's mom feeds him almonds to hopefully cure him. Yoongi is eating almonds in the MV, and like the boy, the almonds don't help.
Just got to say I've watched a lot of reactions to this song (and I cry every time ) but when you saw the lyric "hope I made the best decisions" and you casually responded "you did, 'cause you're here" that hit me really hard. With the connotations of s*icide and self harm in this video, as well as knowing the things he's hinted at in his previous works, I think that your passing comment sums up my thoughts on Yoongi, and on this song, pretty perfectly. He's be through all of those struggles and he's STILL HERE, but not only that, he's THRIVING. This man is an inspiration to everyone who's been through hard times, and he shows us all that trauma, mental illness and/or personal hardship do not have to define us or our lives. And while the ending implies (to me at least) that he still has those struggles and probably always will, it also shows that you can have a successful, incredible life in spite of it. My favourite song this year and one of my favourite BTS songs ever.
damn..sorry about all that stuff you went through, I’m glad you got through all of that on the other side, strong & happy. Yoongi is great at expressing emotion with lyrics and imagery, I’m glad he can share that with ARMY.
That accident is where yoongi got his shoulder injury. he was once a delivery boy while they are still in their training days to pay for school. he didnt mentioned it to the members and company right away and just said that he fall to the stairs. when the company found out, they paid for his tuition.. members where shock when they found out about it. he finally got his surgery i think back on 2020 because he was having painfully a hard time doing some of the choreography..
I cried the first time I watched this!! I can’t believe how lucky we are that he shared his story with us through this beautiful passionate song & album 💜💜 I hope you react to the whole album!! I personal love Snooze and SDL (other than People Pt. 2, Haegeum, and Amygdala) btw the amygdala is the part of the brain that controls our emotional processes and our ability to respond to traumatic stimuli! Knowing this (as someone that works in psychology) this song hit me even more! 💜💜🔥 thanks as always TG
Wow, you really can relate to Yoongi's experiences. I'm sorry to hear you've had such experiences in your life as well, TG. I'm glad you are doing alright now after your accident and your mom is doing well, now. Pronounced A-mig-de-le.
YT put a warning on 'Amygdala' (recently) for a reason. Once it hit back then? Thousands of peeps who'd suffered through their own personal trauma (myself included - as a 56 yr old West Indian Army Mom who discovered BTS in '16 and was on the verge of ...S with two failed attempts(over yrs, since a teen ) and on my third in 2016.. They - literally - saved my life)....became triggered. Is why he specifically put the " I Don't Know Your Name". It was revealing/sharing his past trauma with Army, while acknowledging that WE are also maybe...fighting our past demons and simply trying to deal. Yea TooGrown? 'Member your journey ❤ Point is: There was a young lady (BTS reactioner) who'd been though a serious car accident back in college...nearly died.. She couldn't look at when Suga hit that car. Got so 'triggered'? Broke down like - seriously - lost it. Had to end her vid, midway. Saw so many similar reactions? Lost count of how many 'so-called trained therapists' covered this video (back then) and tried to reassure their followers in their comments. Suga never hid from his S attempt back then or his pill addiction/trauma/depression and like hundreds of thousands in Army - credit BTS as a group (and his role with them)......for saving his life. Hence why he maintains to this day - not word for word but "My future consists of performing with my six brothers well into our old age. Even if we sit on stools and sing/rap while our younger dancers do the moves - we once did. I'll be happy". In all my time of covering 'BoyBands' over the yrs? This song hit - my Cynical arse - hard. So no worries. Like I said back in 2016 to now. When 'Baby Army' (women/men) would apologize for crying to BTS' vids or struggle. "When you cry? Thousands around the World (Army).....watching your vids, cry with you and you've joined the largest FAMILY in the World. We gotchu" . Yea...*TooGrown*...remember saying that to you. A few yrs ago. Stay safe, Darlin'. Borahea 💜💜 Ps. Had Suga NOT BELONGED to the Greatest Group of All Time? .......watch how FAST YT would've blocked/removed said video. Ah lie? 🤣🤣
Suicides happen way too often in the k-pop industry! Because of this, the industry pressures idols to keep quiet about this huge issue. Suga talking about his suicide attempt is very brave! So he is helping everyone else in k-pop who are afraid to speak up, who are being manipulated by companies with guilt and accusations of "you have to shut up because it's a shame"! For me, Suga is "man of the year" because people in the west have no idea how much pressure there is on him on social media from the trolls of different companies after the song came out! He was grossly insulted and even reached the moral bottom of the insults with comments like "you are looking for attention", "you are making up this story to become famous"! The truth is that the fandom has known about the suicide attempt for years because Suga and the boys have talked about it over the years. But many of the new fans had no idea and now the company and all the culprits of what happened are trying to manipulate them with the explanation "this is a made up story"! I'm glad you understood what the video was about and didn't deny it like many bloggers who get paid by k pop companies!

Such a devastatingly beautiful video
Wasn’t that the accident he was in when he hurt shoulder?
Love this…love Suga!
Never loved rap before BTS!
