Stonehearth is one of the best unfinished colony building sims
Yeah. It is so good, but there is so much wrong with it. Dunno if this is still true, but last I heard it was abandoned.
@@TheMetalfreak360 Yep, the game was forced to be abandoned because the devs were acquired and resources were shifted to other projects, the devs didn't want to leave this game alone but they had no choice. The ACE pack had the devs' blessing because it is essentially attempting to complete the devs' original vision of this game.
@@PathOfDamn that's heartbreaking. At least gave it people they trust. May Game be finished one day
I liked Clockwork empires or something like that, quite a lot.
@@UnownDepth I don't think they can fix the core issues which in my playtime was performance issues and pathing.
So this is one of my all time favorite games. The devs built it and had great ideas and foresight and had so many good things going and they sold it to a company who they thought would let them grow to what they wanted. Riot Games however promptly halted any more production and left the project with barely a third of the planned content. The ACE mod is the original developers modding their own game. Thankfully they made mod capabilities before selling the rights.
Do you have any source for that, I would love to know if true before considering buying the game, because the only information I seem to be able to find is that the dev's are now working for RIOT games, and from what I can gleam from ACE, they are just community modders and nothing else.
@@iDumle its literally in their steam page links.
Love this game, there's a lot of great in it and that includes the modding community. As for what happened, the Stonehearth Dev studio was bought out and directed to wrap things up so they could be moved onto a new project.
that's sad((( it could be really great game, if they continued to add mechanics, classes, well, you know, the content.
@@Worldowner At least the game is easy enough to blow open considering it's all uncompiled. Modders can literally change everything if they wish so.
Tho I have to say, I followed the game since somewhat early in the beta, and I never really liked the direction the devs were aiming for (They wanted more of a city builder than a colony manager). The game also always looked like a technical mess, straight from the ground up.
The project was just too ambitious for such a small team. I don't think a 3D colony manager is something an indie dev team can make, at least not to the level of success that Rimworld or DF do in 2D.
interesting, didnt know they got bought up. Fake af
I bought the game and spent so many hours on it. Everyday I would sit down and spend around 5 hours in just one settlement till it would get to the point where they would die from giant goblins. Its been awhile since I have played it so I could be wrong on the mob that killed me. Thanks splat for showing me this mod. I was hoping the Devs would have done it themselves but I do like how the community fixed it with their permission.
you may be ware about giant bunnys man out there... they exists! actually i not know, but a quests in vanilla make my campfire got a bunny on it, i only had 20 hours almost playing since last weekend, but i playerd hard for 3 or 4 days
Could we have a LP of this game? I would like to see this village grow
Same!
Nah he never does let’s play. But there may be more content of this on his twitch. Not sure on what it is but it shouldn’t be hard to find at all
@@matthewaurilia1134 Check me out on Twitch on Saturdays, or wait a while here, I do a stream of this game.
Not a surprise the devs supported this. They really loved the game and the fanbase, but many felt they needed to move on to new projects after all the ups and downs with their very first game (design challenges and realizing things were more complex then they thought).
So, yeah, I'm definitely not surprised they were willing to support fans wanting to improve upon it. That's far and away better support than many developers gave, or give, fans and players after moving on (or even after claiming they're still working on it).
Riot forced them to finish up to 1.0 as soon as possible (Radiant was acquired by Riot), it wasn't their choice that they weren't able to finish it.
When your 'hallways' are wider than your actual rooms.
YES! I’ve wanted someone to bring attention to Stonehearth for a while now! It’s one of my absolute favourite games and communities! ☺️
Soooo glad to see stonehearth let's play on UA-cam again! Love watching you play this game, so entertaining and relaxing. Love the game too, because of this video I am now aware of the ace mod and will start playing again myself
Mate, please make this a full series.
you know...for someone who has had their throat cut and struggles to talk, Ronia sure talks a lot
I haven't looked at this game in a long time. I didn't know that I could miss a game in development. Keep up the good work splats!
I love this game. I'm so glad modders are going to fix it's small bugs
Making a dwarven mountain hold, nice!
Diggy diggy hole
Gonna need to see a series of this! I just picked this game up and I'd love to play along.
really wish you had played this longer! I was an original backer on the core game and was also disappointed by how it was left. Good to see there's a good mod for it out there now!
I had, regrettably, forgotten about this game. Thanks Splat!
Definitely didn't expect this today.
Is there a way to buy the game, but have the money go to the modders? You know, the ones who are actually putting the work in?
Was thinking of getting it but didn't think about that, that's an interesting point. Might wait until it's at a super discount and hopefully the modders have a patreon and give the rest to them.
Crack the game and donate to the modders
The original company, Radiant Entertainment didn't want to quit working on the game but their studio was bought out by Riot and they were forced to work on different projects. It's not there fault that they had to quit working on it and a lot of the modders who work on ACE are actually apart of the original dev team.
@@kingkitten2375 Ah! Didn't know that.Ever since I got burned on Towns, I hate rewarding companies that just abandon games half done, but I guess it's not entirely their fault and I suppose I won't feel as bad for sliding them $20 then Thanks for letting me know!.
@@lanceuppercut6168 it's not gonna happen, it's never been in a discount at least in steam
I had been following it for some time in its early days, and I let it drift off my radar because of performances issues at the time. I was sad to hear it wasn't really finished but knew the community was working on a big mod to fulfil its potential. Thanks for reminding me of all of this Splatt, the charm of the game is obvious and if this ACE mod smooths the rough edges it's probably a great experience now.
The ACE team is planning to add a dwarf race which is what I’ve been waiting for
I really love all of your videos man!
The problem with 1.0 wasn't that the game was buggy. The problem was that they made promises they didn't keep when it comes to the content, they didn't finish their own plans for the game's content, and "1.0" is just their way of saying "We've abandoned the game but don't want to admit it." - The company got bought, the game got soft canceled, and they left it to the community to finish what they got paid to do and never delivered.
I feel the same - this was so promising and I enjoyed what little had been developed so far - was easy yet had a depth of complexity. I could see larger maps and different maps and zones etc - large underground caverns etc. Hope it doesn't die totally
Nice video Splat, I'd like to see more episodes for this potential series.
I felt the same way about this game. I hadn't heard of the ACE mod, so I'm glad to see that modders have taken it upon themselves to flesh out the game's potential.
OH MY GOODNESS!! So excited to see you play this!!!
I'm so glad you put this out Splat, I had no idea it finished or that the (wonderful) modders created this ACE!
Thanks for making this video , Stonehearth has honestly been one of those games that i refretted backing due to the state it was left in but this gives me new hope that the modding community will take the game where it needs to be
Blame it on Riot for forcing Radiant to stop working on this, or blame it on Radiant's founders that had betrayed the trust of not only the customers who were promised so much, but the vision and dreams of the original developers that poured their love into this game.
Ive had this game on my wishlist for a while waiting for a sale but didnt realize how fun it looked. Really a shame its been abandoned by the Devs but Im glad to hear about the modders.
oh yeah; subscribed.
Worth noting that Radiant (the devs) were bought by Riot, who gave them a good bit of time and then said, "Okay, you need to set a reasonably soon finish line and be done with this project." Those who stayed with Riot are working on other Riot-branded projects now, but they did what they felt was the best they could for the game before they had to walk away.
Riot making a game like this? Yes please. Yordle slave labor camp.
It hurts my soul to see these one off videos like goddam I was about binge the series so hard
One of my favorite games. I'm gonna have to look into the mods. Its been a while since I've played it. Love the look, wish they finished the game though.
Oh man, I hope you do more modded reviews. This is really cool.
You should definitely run a series on this one. I want to see what happens to your little colony now.
Would love see an on going series for a game like this....
Well good on the Modders for their commitment and the Devs for letting them take over. Can definitely say Modders are the saviors of most games.
This game is like Minecraft colony management style! :) Very neat, reminds me of Kingdoms and Castles so much + has some Minecraft elements, so cool. :)
I’m soo happy to see this back!!!!
I love this game even after it was abandoned
0:45 i actually respect they doing that . the devs knows the game is not complete and then been forced by Riot to finish it .so they gave the game back to the community . what i hope more devs do when they in similar situation .
I loved this game, wish they would have worked on it some more. This was one of my first early access games I purchased.
I am so thankful to the folks who put the ACE mod together, it makes the game so, so much better. Shame the devs couldn't do it themselves, but at this point, I'm just glad the game ended up in a good state after playing through so many rough years of early access.
Takes a lot of backbone to give out major parts of a code of a game you published for other people to finish it.
I remember seeing this game years ago and always wanted to play it 😭
Your videos and your presentation are amazing
I am glad this game came back from the shadows.
Keep up with the series I love it
Guess I'm revisiting Stonehearth now
Wish this game had a Skirmish mode
I've been getting the colony-sim itch lately, and I do love me some Stonehearth (but hate how the devs left it)
This is gonna be gud
It's almost a must to install the ACE pack, you're missing out so much without it.
love to see this again
i was so upset how people also just accepted how they bailed on the whole thing not keeping even a quarter of the promises they made to their Customers.
apparently they got bought out by a larger studio so i dont think they had a choice sadly
but also some of the devs are still working on the ACE mod team so thats nice to see
They got bought by Riot and they had the devs finish it way early. That's why the developers set up ACE!
The original devs were acquired by Riot Games and was told to move on. If anything kudos to the Radiant team (the original devs) because some of them came back as volunteers and helped a little here and there with the ACE pack as well, at least that was what I was told by another comment in here.
@@occidentsunrise8214 It's my understanding that a company can't get bought without consent, though, right? Like, we say "got bought out," but what we mean is "they were offered a deal that was worth more to them than the game," right?
This looks like great fun !
Is that what wound up happening to it. I remember being told it was fully released but still feeling incomplete. That said though, I LOVE this game. I'm glad to see it again! Thank you Splat!
hey i dunno if your gonna see this but a tip is that the highier the spirity of a harthling is the better quality a item is gonna be so if you want a good cook you have to get a high sprity and mind you get the best crafter
Just bought this game thanks to splat.
This game is how I came to subscribe to your channel. Looking forward to your playing it
> Splat, "You load sixteen tons, whatayaget?"
Another day older and deeper in debt.
More please. I love this game
I had Stoneheart on my wishlish for a long time, until I gave up on it. Such a great concept; it had so much potential. Not certain I would want to dish up what it cost even with this mod though.
in the newest update hearthlings will actually automatically scaffold for dug sections. It's really cool and super useful, I wish that had been in the game a long time ago.
I miss watching vids of this game, I wish the devs hadn't abandoned it.
Devs was forced to abandon it afaik, pretty sad story. But I am glad ACE is here, still having fun with my friend and I'm looking forward to their dwarves update :D
@@PathOfDamn what are they working on now?
@@adgcih1689 Riot Games acquired them, I'm not sure what they are working on at the moment.
@@PathOfDamn probably some lol themed colony sim. lol
It wasn't abandoned, Riot bought Radiant and forced them to stop.
omg i missed this game so much
It's so surreal seeing my name as your save xD
Man I haven't seen this in literal years
Wooow dude finally. Thank u very very much modders :)
I always put a couple doors when making an underground home.. just to keep the random mobs from getting in easily. With a 4 block buffer that I sometimes hollow out for windows and eating alcoves later on. Stairs are a pain as are double deep rooms for the metal working crafting statons (do the top level first!)
This game definitely makes me think of a 3d dwarf fortress
It's the height of the ground around the water. if you dig down one level you should be golden for the traps.
Considering that, from what i know, development was rushed for this game because they were acquired by riot games. They did a good thing by handing it over to the ace team, so that people who love to play this game can continue to play it.
(Correct me if im wrong, i mean this seriously im a bit uncertain on the specifics of what happened.)
Today I just learned about this game it looks like a 3D pixelized version of Rimworld. I could see myself playing this game.
The fish traps work well ... but you have to place the trap on the bank (land next to water)
Oh shit! Shots fired @19:00 XD
The game really reminds me of dwarf fortress but more user friendly
This is like 3D dwarf fortress
This is great thanks Splatttercat. got a reason to blow the steam-dust off this game now i always felt like the way the publisher just took the money and ran destroyed the potential this game has.
to the ACE developers well done nuture and raise this baby like hello games did no man's sky. :)
Yep, blame on Riot, Radiant didn't want to leave, Riot forced them to abandon.
keep it up my guy
love this
it'S a shame that you don't do series anymore! nur gutes!
omg he makes decisions so fast!
Some of the music sounds like they re-recorded the LOTR soundtrack with juuuuust some keys a little off.
I hope the modders add something like a first person control...
Or like "embody" or something where you control a villager to build and beautify your builds for caves and houses.
I know it's a personal-preference thing, but I can just never understand why anyone wants to play first person in a god game. It will just look ugly and make it harder to build anything. I don't get it! No offense, I swear!
Wow. I gave money to this game's Kickstarter and forgot about it after it just disappeared. Maybe I'll finally get my money's worth.
I wonder if the devs of Stonehearth saw that Dwarf Fortress is getting a Steam release with a fully mouse-compatible UI coming. Perhaps they felt like they couldn't compete with that?
Never understood how such a gorgeous game fell to the wayside.
Riot Entertainment bought Radiant, gave them two years, then pulled the plug.
Because Riot bought the original dev company and shifted all the resources from this and another game they were planning on doing and moving them all to different 'Riot' based IPs
More stonehearth more stonehearth
really awesome that the modders kinda took up the torch, but kinda skeevy that the devs just, "Finished" the game and then essentially got a free dev team to keep working on the game.
*The last airbender vibes on that one
I don't think I'll ever purchase another game from this developer if they wouldn't fix or finish their game. Good thing we had modders care more about their game then they seemed to.
They had no choice. They were acquired by Riot and made to release early and then work on other things.
Some of the original devs work/worked on ACE.
@@Nachtrae yeah I read that same comment on all the other threads. I can still be upset about the fact that they realeased an unfinished game. Doesn't really matter if it was because someone bought their strings and told them to dance. Also some devs trying to fix their game from the sidelines is great but again without the other modders I'm assuming they would make the same progress as when they were getting paid to make the game. But as always you are welcome to your opinion and views. Have a good one.
Thank man, subs on.
ACE seems to be doing quite a few good things for this game ... I hope they continue to work on it ...
Best unfinished game ever.honestly if someone just optimized it so you could hav more then 40 hearthlings.ace mod is so awesome though.best
My friend and I have 40+ hearthlings on an MP game so I think that's pretty good.
wtf this game is still alive? I bought it years ago when it first started... I loved it while it was there
One of my pet peeves is when Splat compares games like this to Rimworld. And not the true inspiration: Dwarf Fortress.
Having dudes with terrible stats isn't too bad, dedicated haulers.
yeah i feel it was abandoned, specially since the performance tanks once the colony grow
Yeah, the ACE team sets a default (I think) limit of 30 hearthlings. My friend and I has a combined total of 47 hearthlings in an MP game at the moment but still no lag.
@@PathOfDamn the longer the game goes, the laggier it get. Reload helps a little bit. But way to laggy to have a nice village.
@@Tirze This is no doubt the case, though previously without the mod my game would start lagging at about 10-15 hearthlings in.
With the mod we had a 60-hearthlings city with absolutely no lag before we stopped playing and moved on. Back then, we stopped playing because it bugged out, now, we stopped playing because we moved on.
"I hear combat music, why do I hear combat music?"
Instantly reminded of the viva la dirt league video about that lol
It is just more visual legendary 'DWARF FORTRESS'
I cant believe this game failed... I really wish a developer would pick this up and continue making the game
