Hi IT Pros, If this method did not work for you, most likely it's because you have a most recent HP model. I made a video recently about updating the Bios version on a new HP laptop. Hope it helps! ua-cam.com/video/d-bc2i6zthk/v-deo.html
@@stevejoe9516 Hello, If you dont know the BIOS password you can reset it. I have some videos about that: ua-cam.com/video/tl_h-BpgWpU/v-deo.html Hope it helps. thanks for the comment!
hello. I have this error during installing my BIOS."IHISI: Get support mode fail in SMI!" and "BIOS" did not support InsydeFlash!. I opened the file using my Dell laptop while I want to update my HP laptop's BIOS. Hope you can help me. Thank you.
I have a hp 250 g5 notebook pc, I just want to upgrade it to a ssd and 16 ddr ram memory, it has windows 10 pro. I went hp software/drivers downloads and found the bios the corresponds my pc: f:48--12-17-2019. I downloaded and save it into a usb. Is that all I need to upgrade my pc and boot it from the usb? Of that I have to load other drivers like sound, network and the like? Thank you for your answer if it happens that you read my post.
This procedure worked for my 10yo HP Folio 9470m running Ubuntu 22.04 with BIOS 68IBD F.73 Rev.A. First USB stick I tried (noname brand) was not recognized while the second one (from Sandisk) worked pefectly. Thanks for this great video!
thank you for this, it's much better explained than the said "instructions" there. also, if you create the "new folder" and install the bios package directly on the hp laptop (as you did on your pc), will update the bios right after the install is finished. much faster that way, and you don't even need a usb for it. that's how i just updated my 470 g2
Hello, I really appreciate these instructions, I found your video after 2 days of searching for a solution to flash the update to a HP Folio 9470m, in just 20 minutes I had successfully completed the BIOS update.
You must correctly format it with hp tool with latest bios. 1- plug charger 2- put pendrive 3- press and keep pressing power button + windows + B (for a long time, around 1minute) 4- keep looking at the power led and other LED at bottom left notebook 5- when it's enought ALL LIGHTS WILL TURNOFF 6- LET POWER BUTTON ONLY but keep holding windows + B 7- The notebook will appear off but it's ON pendrive light will turnon and bios flash will start(screen will be off) 8- Wait around 1 to 3 minutes for the flash ( screen will be off) 9 release windows+b 9- turnoff via power button 10 - try turning on. it should work.
Hi. Thank you for recording this videos. Unfortunately for me does not work: when I try to install HPQ Flash Wizard (min 6:21 in your video) I receive error message "Required HP UEFI BIOS Update utilities are not available in source or destination folder, unable to continue". I tried different method, I searched on the internet... - no success. I want to update HP Probook 6560b, from BIOS ver F.20 to BIOS ver F.67 RevA because any new SSD (replacing HDD) is not recognized by laptop. If you have some advice for me I will appreciate.
very good, I have a similar Probook, but I'm actually interested in this for a G7 notebook, same procedure? It currently has a Chinese BIOS, (it can change to English), I got it to work but I wanna update and have latest and English. I just need to confirm info of notebook as you show?
Thank you for the video! But I have a problem. There is no "update BIOS" setting in the BIOS. But there is a newer version of BIOS on the hp website. So there must be a way, but nothing works. Just plugin in the usb stick doesn't do anything. Any ideas?
I may be overreacting, but I'm upgrading to a new CPU and wanna make sure the BIOS is done right. I downloaded the newest bios version, saved it to the HPupdate desktop folder, and what was saved was the application to launch the HP flash utility. But, I ran the flash utility and chose the USB recovery option which saved a bunch of the files you showed in the video but there are some differences. I got 3 folders labed "EFI", "Hewlett Packard", and "HP". Each of the 3 folders seem to share almost all of the same files, even down to the sub folders (BIOS and BIOSUPDATE being in all 3 main folders) The only difference is in the "HP" folder and then into the BIOSUPDATE folder, there are less of the EFI, s09, s12, s14 files than in the main EFI and Hewlett Packard folders. I'm unsure if maybe the version I got from the HP site included all of what you dragged in from your download from the HP site, or if I missed something to move over?
Hello, i typed in google the name of your computer + drivers. It took me to the HP website, latest bios is F.53. If the method in the video does not work, try running the bios update from windows itself without creating a usb. Hope it helps Thanks for the commment

Hi. I have a question for you because I wanted to update the bios in the hp omen 16 5t925ea laptop. I currently have a bios version with the F17 designation and I want to update to the latest version of F20 and the problem is that there are even earlier versions of these bios: F18 and F19 and if I download the latest version of F20, I have to download the two previous versions for the latest one to work ? Something will happen if I skip these F18, F19? Will the system be unstable or poor performance? 2 Question: What is the best program to download the bios update? Is it through this bios sp executable file and something or is it better to use the program: Uefi Bios Update, amibios, afudos or rw everything. I would like an answer...
Hello, In most cases is not needed to go in order. Unless there is a note for version F20 that says you need F18-19 before upgrading to F20. If not, there should not be any problems. You can download the upgrade using your web browser. Hope it help TY for the comment!
I have got CQ61 et120 and I tried to install Samsung Evo 850 gb. Unfortunately, bios doesn't recognize the drive. I performed a Primary HD Self Test and it says "it passed". But with no luck, bios still doesn't recognize. I have the latest Samsung firmware. I tried to update the bios on laptop but couldn't find the right one. Any clues?
Hi, i have the older 10 year old HP 6730b and in the bios there is NO update option, only reset back to default. i even tried loading the bios file in windows but it just said finished? didnt go to a app or anything?? Laptop starts normally to windows but i had that 501 error at start and just reset bios to factory and that cleared that but still cant find any place to update the bios to latest. All settings in the bios seem to be on "change" and i even took battery out to reset in case a security lock is on somewhere. My other laptop from same age 4530s has a update line with the bios section, so is the 6730b locked out from bios updates or is the chip faulty or locked out in some way?? Otherwise its working and booting ok . Thanks
I have the same problem. No "update BIOS" setting in the BIOS. But there is a newer version of BIOS on the hp website. So there must be a way, but nothing works. Just plugin in the usb stick doesn't do anything. Any ideas?
In earlier versions of the BIOS the 'Update' option may not have been there, it may only have been added in a later version than you have, like the one you are trying to update to. You need to follow the procedure described in the post by @metaorior above, which does not require the update option in the BIOS; indeed, his procedure should work even if the BIOS is corrupt and you cannot even boot the laptop or access its BIOS.
See my reply to the first reply to this post from @MrOlegrom. Why do you want to update the BIOS on your laptop if it's working and booting OK anyway, unless you want to add some new hardware that isn't recognised, like a new SSD for example, as a few of the other posts here are trying to do? There is a significant risk that you will brick your laptop if you get any part of this procedure wrong so if you don't NEED to update the BIOS, DON'T DO IT and if you don't know exactly what you're doing but still need to update then get a technician who does know what they're doing to do it for you - this is non-trivial procedure!

Hello, i tried to update the bios of my hp probook 6450b but there is not more support for this machine, so there is not drivers for bios in hp website. do you know another side where i can get the drivers?
yep, thats an error in hp bios updates, which i have too. If you try to run it manually, you'll get an error kind of "no ROM.CAB file found", and it's really missing. Also there is a post on hp community, where a couple users have that problem too. You know what HP support does? He started to convince user not to install update, because it have small changes and then started to ask all non-related to problem stuff, such as serial number etc. Easy solution is to write USB stick with livecd, copy folder C:\SWSetup\SP79709 from other windows pc (you should get this bios update from HP website) to your stick, rename file ..\SWSetup\SP79709\68SCE.CAB (it can be different for you - see "system information"-"BIOS Revision" on HP PC) into ROM.CAB, then boot on HP comp using LiveCD and start HPQFlash.exe. Thats the only way it worked for me Too bad i still cant connect my ssd, even if i change sata mode to 3Gb, as many people advice.

Hello B K, I would try another USB brand, if available, or create the bootable USB one more time. If that does not work the HP laptop model may not support this method of updating the BIOS version. In that situation i would recommend updating the bios from Windows itself. Here i have a video for that: ua-cam.com/video/g4-lOJWN9_U/v-deo.html Hope it helps. Thanks for the comment!
In my case, after BIOS update, laptop didn't restart. It just having charging light on hours (even when it's unplugged) and nothing else. I tried to long press power button but nothing happened. Just charging light on and black screened cold laptop. Any suggestions how to mend this problem?
Seems like the BIOS update failed or the BIOS file you downloaded wasn't the correct one for your laptop. Did you interrupt the BIOS update while it was still running or lose power or something else that didn't allow the update to complete? You should ensure that you download the correct BIOS update file for your laptop model, from the HP website ONLY - don't trust downloads from any other site, then follow the procedure in the video up to creating the USB drive with all the necessary files on it using another computer. Finally, follow the procedure in the post by @metaorior above - that doesn't require you to access the laptop's BIOS menu again to do the BIOS update as shown in the video, which you can't do now because you broke it.
Nothing - just wait and don't turn it off using the power button! Windows may be trying to install updates in the background as it shuts down (if you have automatic updates turned on that is) - if you kill it before it's finished then then it will just try to do the whole thing again the next time you shut it down. The alternative is to go into 'Windows Update' while Windows is running, check for updates if necessary then watch as it applies any outstanding ones until there are no more left; it may well still take a long time to shut down after this but it will tell you what it's doing with a progress readout. Once the updates have been applied it should shut down as quickly as normal - Patience Grasshopper!

Hey brother I want to get my older BIOS version of #Hp #Laptop back how can I get because new version is problematic, pls Reply brother I want my previous BIOS version back 🙏 help me
Hello DHAVAN, I will start saying: It not a good idea to downgrade you Bios version for it may render your computer unusable. Now, I have 2 videos on which i do exactly that, downgrade the Bios version. So, it is up to you, your computer might work with no problem after the downgrade or i may not work at all. Finally, there are some cases on which the Bios downgrade process can't be performed. One of them happens if the update fixed some vulnerabilities in the device. Link for the video: ua-cam.com/video/jmw6-K2bcBM/v-deo.html Hope it helps Thanks for the comment!

this method not working in older model. I am stuck with bricked HP Pavilion DV6 6050 se model. cannot make usb bcoz I think second laptop is ASUS brand one. sp55068.exe gives me error message. Insydeflash nit supporting
You should be able to do the first part of this procedure, ie extracting the necessary files in the service pack to the folder on your desktop, even on a different brand laptop as long as it's running Windows, but be aware that .NET version 2.0 is required to run most of these service pack extraction executables, especially ones for older models like the DV6, so install that before you start if it isn't already. You DO NOT however want to run the actual BIOS update procedure, which may start automatically after the extraction has finished, on a different brand laptop or even a different model from the same manufacturer because that will most likely fail as you have seen so just cancel that. Proceed as shown in the video from 8.15 onwards and copy all the files in the desktop folder to a FAT or FAT32 formatted USB drive then follow the procedure described in the post by @metaorior above, which does not require the update option in the BIOS; you should be able to restore the DV6 BIOS successfully that way but make absolutely sure that you have downloaded the correct BIOS for your laptop from the HP website - use your serial number, on the label beneath the battery in the battery compartment, to do so and don't trust downloads from any other source. There are many different models of the DV6 series with very different BIOSes so it is very important that you have the correct one.
Charge the battery fully with the laptop turned off - the LED beside the charging port will be white not orange when fully charged. If that doesn't work then the laptop is probably overheating and the cooling system needs cleaning out because it is blocked with fluff; you'll probably need technical help with that as you'll need to dismantle the whole laptop to do it - it's a non-trivial operation but there are videos on UA-cam that show you how to do it and if you do then don't forget to replace the heatsink compound between the heatsink and the CPU, THAT'S VERY IMPORTANT (you'll have to disconnect the heatsink from the CPU to clean the fan out properly).
flash wizard didn't open, I tried find and install it, only version I find didn't match witch my pc, so I create folder and search .bin and .sig mannually, i also mannually find rom.sig (and I put them all in folder) but I didn't have efibios.sig and all files from 8:40 min, if someone could help I will by thanks a lot, my system bios is 786C1
Hi Abismael, If you don't have the Bios password and it is a Dell desktop computer, this video will be useful: ua-cam.com/video/54vqKBiTGSg/v-deo.html if it is a laptop It will depend on the model, removing the Cmos battery MIGHT work. Hope it helps. Thanks for the comment!
hey, plz reply i am using HP-15 AY079nia Notebook. I forgot my bios password, and now I can never enter bios setting etc, should I use this method to flash my bios so i am rid of my password????
Hello Bongo cat, i like the memes 👍 A Bios update does not reset the Bios password. For that, the best option os to remove the Cmos battery, the Cmos battery looks like a silver coin and is located in different places of the motherboard depending on the computer model. Once carefully removed leave like for around 30 min or more, then put it back in. That should reset any passwords/configuration in the Bios. Hope it helps Thanks for the comment!
Hello Arif, I've made a video on how to downgrade the Bios version on a Dell desktop some months ago. ua-cam.com/video/jmw6-K2bcBM/v-deo.html It is not advisable to do it since you may damage your computer. I WANT TO ASK A FEW QUESTIONS? HOW TO UPDATE A BIOS WITHOUT BIOS ADMINISTRATOR PASSWORD? I HAVE A MODEL; HP ELITEBOOK 8470P. MY WINDOW IS CORRUPTED AND I WANT TO INSTALL A NEW WINDOW VIA CD ROM. BUT FIRST I WANT TO OPEN BIOS SETTINGS AND NEED TO CHANGE THE BOOT OPTION? I HAVE ALREADY TRIED THE CMOS BATTERY TRICK BUT I COULD NOT.
Hello, If you dont have the admin password to access the bios then you wont be able to change any setting in it. Laptops, in most cases, are more problematic when trying to remove the admin or startup password as they dont have the jumper as desktops do to reset it. Removing the cmos works for some models. In your case it seems it did not. One way that comes to mine and if available, NOTE: I haven’t tested this, would be to run the bios update from windows as for many models it come as an .exe file. 1 mote thing, if you have your hdd/ssd encrypted with Bilocker, disable it first before updating the Bios. Otherwise you might not have access to it after the update unless of course you have the recovery key for bitlocker. Hope it help Ty for the comment
You should be able to boot the laptop from the CD-ROM by repeatedly pressing the F9 key as you power on the laptop then choosing the CD-ROM from the list of boot options displayed, unless booting from CD-ROM is disabled in the BIOS, which may be why you need to access that first. Try it and if it doesn't work then try using the 'rufus' utility (Google it) to put the contents of your CD-ROM or ISO file onto a USB drive and try booting and installing from that instead (same way, F9 while powering on, and see if the USB drive is seen in the list of options) - USB booting may not be disabled even if booting from CD-ROM is.

@@freakzyymy5368 Odd....worked for me many times. Another thing since you updated the Bios. Check if there an option to disable this feature in the Bios itself.
Hello Pampos, I normally do it on an empty USB, but no, it not necessary. However, if there is any problem booting from the USB, it's due to the extra files/folder you added to it. Finally, in order for the USB to boot, it needs to be formatted as FAT32. Hope it helps Thanks for the comment!

@@zmnali78 No, unfortunately. It seems that the bios on my laptop isn't upgradable.
Worth listening even with the bad audio
Thanks but this does not work for HP 255 G6 model as there is no update bios option in this older bios set up. Please advise.
Hello, i typed in google the name of your computer + drivers. It took me to the HP website, latest bios is F.53. If the method in the video does not work, try running the bios update from windows itself without creating a usb.

Hello,
In most cases is not needed to go in order.
Unless there is a note for version F20 that says you need F18-19 before upgrading to F20. If not, there should not be any problems.
You can download the upgrade using your web browser.
Hope it help

Otherwise its working and booting ok
.
There is a significant risk that you will brick your laptop if you get any part of this procedure wrong so if you don't NEED to update the BIOS, DON'T DO IT and if you don't know exactly what you're doing but still need to update then get a technician who does know what they're doing to do it for you - this is non-trivial procedure!

cheers mate! Finally got my Hackintosh bios updated without windows.
hi do you know how to change the bios logo without using windows?
Do you know why the HPQ flash wizard window doesn't appear ?
yep, thats an error in hp bios updates, which i have too.
Thats the only way it worked for me
Too bad i still cant connect my ssd, even if i change sata mode to 3Gb, as many people advice.
late Info: easy solution for me...i renamed the .cab-file to ROM.CAB. For example. my was "68SCF.CAB" --> renamed to "ROM.CAB" and it worked

My lapton starts to spin when i switch off my hp but works normally when when i switch it on, what is the problem

Hello DHAVAN,
I will start saying: It not a good idea to downgrade you Bios version for it may render your computer unusable. Now, I have 2 videos on which i do exactly that, downgrade the Bios version. So, it is up to you, your computer might work with no problem after the downgrade or i may not work at all. Finally, there are some cases on which the Bios downgrade process can't be performed. One of them happens if the update fixed some vulnerabilities in the device.

this method not working in older model.
Thanks you this was amazing

Hello Bongo cat, i like the memes 👍
A Bios update does not reset the Bios password. For that, the best option os to remove the Cmos battery, the Cmos battery looks like a silver coin and is located in different places of the motherboard depending on the computer model.
Once carefully removed leave like for around 30 min or more, then put it back in. That should reset any passwords/configuration in the Bios.

BUT FIRST I WANT TO OPEN BIOS SETTINGS AND NEED TO CHANGE THE BOOT OPTION?
I HAVE ALREADY TRIED THE CMOS BATTERY TRICK BUT I COULD NOT.
PLEASE TELL ME THE BEST SOLUTION?
Hello,
If you dont have the admin password to access the bios then you wont be able to change any setting in it.
Hope it help

@@MyITWorkshop ok i will try it and then tells you about the result.
