You should get a double-chambered breeding tank for thinks like this where there's a see-through plastic slider with holes in that separates the tank into two segments in the middle. You'd be able to put the female in one side and male on the other and see how they respond to each other through the see-through plastic divider. Most dividers don't have holes in but you can use a soldering iron to make as many as you need. This way you can see if they attempt to tap, see how aggressive the female is and just get an idea as to what would happen if you removed the slider. You could even make your own slider that's made out of a mesh-type material which would be even more ideal. You can buy metal mesh sheets and cut them down to size. You could even use a mesh sheet in a normal tank just to divide them, don't necessarily need a breeding tank that has slots to put the plastic divider in. Also, feeding her first would be a good idea and possibly lowering the temperature a bit temporarily to possibly make her more docile.
I don't think you should risk breeding her again if she is going to continue to be hyperaggressive to her mates. Also the male didn't do his tap dance to her, so she thought he was food.

You need a larger breeding tank that you can move the female into when she is ready to mate, so when you introduce the male, he has a place to retreat to if she rushes him like that. The male in that tiny enclosure had nowhere to go, and he didn't tap...I dunno, I'm not a spider keeper, but I would have gotten him out of there.

I know he's famous as the one handed guy because he's always filming with the other but come on time for a tripod. Welfare of the tarantulas should be better. Evan in older videos I seen where 2 hands are definitely better than 1

I'm no tarantula expert, but what if you used bars that are used on grills to keep between the pairing, that way the male can safely mate between the bars without being eaten?
Idk. Idk if they'd even pair at all with something between them. Don't get me wrong, that is a good idea. But something like that may become more of an impedance or distraction, than anything. *Edit:* and I'm no Tarantula expert either.
It sounds like it's worth a try at least haha. The male has to hold the female back so the grill would do the hard work for him 🤣 she could be all fangs trying to kill him and he could just do his thing and bolt haha
That's the 2nd male she's murdered... maybe next time something smaller like a spatula...... I've seen a friend use a spatula. He got pretty close to the T's and was able to block the takedown......ijs
@@courtneylescallett6281 Dave is the best imo. He is so calm and I have never seen him have a problem with the spiders. Just awesome to watch. He knows his stuff
So, I think it was because the enclosure was a bit small for them to pair without the female feeling threatened. She barely had room to turn, and he barely had room to react. I’m not an expert, but that’s just my opinion. BTW, I love your videos!
Do you have an habitat tank with a screen divider in the middle that goes up and down? If the pair shows any type of interest... Than you can slowly raise the divider... If not, at least she didn't kill the male. Even while mating its hard to know the outcome... What you think?
Lots of comments saying “use a spatula, or use tongs to separate them”. I highly doubt that anyone has the reflex’s needed to be able to get in between them. They move so quickly. That being said, I think that this was not a well executed pairing attempt. More planning and time were absolutely required here. It was rushed.
@@myadversariescry7400 Firstly, we all know Dave is super human. Secondly, I dont think thats a fair comparison. The pairing was already completed and the female didn’t charge the male.
Wow! That took a really sharp turn really fast! To be honest, that really made me jump, that usually never happens while watching mating videos. But dang, that is probably the most brutal video, since Pissy attacked your friend's hand, ever. I was not prepared.
sometimes, when I see these tarantulas kicking their hairs as you, it kind of feels like they are "flipping you off" or "flipping the bird" except they are kicking their hairs instead.
I've noticed that if the female responds to the male's movements BEFORE he starts tapping, the female is more than likely going to eat the male. If she doesn't notice him UNTIL he starts tapping, she is usually responsive and the pairing goes well.
You should buy a larger container and turn it into a makeshift enclosure so when you want to pair the spooders they have plenty of room to get to know each other and they aren’t cramped. Because when they don’t have any room to move around their more likely to get angy
I just watched that again. They're both so huge. There was no way anyone could have stopped that btw. She pounced, they rolled, it was over. There isnt a human out there that could have stopped that so stop feeling bad. It made me jump the second time I watched it too lol
He definitely could have. You see after she pounces and exotics lair is trying to get the lid in there, they aren’t even biting each other yet, the fangs are in the open. That’s when you gotta block those fangs and the spiders can’t do anything so they release. The lid wasn’t a great decision in my opinion..
It could totally have been stopped. He could have gradually introduced them for a start. At night. In neutral territory. And had both hands free, and a soft wood stick or paint brush to separate them if she was still aggressive. Or just removed him when he wasn't drumming if the thought never crossed his mind to not dump a giant spider into her home during the day. This whole thing was preventable well before she pounced.
@@mydogeatspuke and he talks too much. He's not concentrating. He also paused the video and re started . That's because it was a period of time that he did nothing but watch. I feel the same way about the majority of "pet-tubers" though. Nothing will be done, nothing will change, animals will continue to suffer so they can make money. Such is life I guess.
Its like with any animal meeting or paring for the first time. Let them have time to get used to eachothers scent and pheromones. You don't let them see eachother without a barrier till after that is done. My cats id only allow to meet eachother through the door till they were used to eachothers smell. Male cat still hated the female but he was used to her. Same thing with bees when introducing a new queen if the old one had to be killed off (rogue queens can be dangerous so sometimes have to be euthanized for the wellbeing of a hive).
There's something you forget to point out, neither cats nor bees practice sexual cannibalism. The matter of the fact is that tarantulas are very different animals and you can't predict the outcome of a pairing. And also, tarantulas are not social animals, you can't expect them to get used to eachother because that won't happen. As soon as the female gets hungry, the male is done for
Next time what I'd recommend doing, get a dummy enclosure for each of them, One that you can sperated with a slotted middle that can be removed. Let them acclimate on their respective sides of the enclosures for a bout a week... and maybe try luck, She's a beauty but my goodness she's fiesty.
She said “not today!!!!” I’m so sorry lol I’m sorry. I’ve seen a couple of your mating videos and I was just like “she about to chose violence” she didn’t look interested lol.
She wasnt going him for food, wouldve been defence more than anything Feeding before hand can only do so much when a female doesnt want to take any shit
You've got to keep super still and not even breathe toward them in 'the moment' as they're so sensitive it reduces the chance of a successful mating greatly!
Exactly he is moving that lid towards them and back numerous times. The hairs on their body are sensitive and probably annoyed her. Just a guess but Dave little Beasties has no trouble. Calm as they come. He should watch Dave
I just tried to pair my 2 yr old LPs I've had since slings. He's definitely ready, but she definitely tried to kill him. I was fast, he's safe. Should I try again another time? I do suspect she's a month or more due to molt
Exotic Lair : "Just get on with it!" Female : "Just get on? Just get on?! OH ALRIGHT THEN, I'LL GET ON WITH IT." *Pounce!" So.. let's talk how tarantulas can understand hooman
Next time try it in an enclosure with a fine mesh partition. That way they can sense each other first. And if the tapping starts, and her body language looks good. THEN remove the partition. But if she goes primal, she can't get on him because of the mesh wall.
You didn't give them adequate ground to work with, male T didn't have proper footing and got overwhelmed. I already knew it was going to go south when you put them together. Also make sure bird eaters are super well fed before pairing, if they refuse food and aren't moody, that would be the best time to start setting up a pairing.
That's sad, he became lunch. Just 1 question: Can you feed them before pairing? Just asking that's all. JUST MY OPINION. BECAUSE EVERYONE HAS A OPINION.
I think the issue is there wasn't enough room for him to...present himself? I'm no expert and I know nothing but maybe with more room, not as tight a space, it could have been different

Sorry for your loss bro. I could hear the pain in your voice when you were yelling stop. You did all you could if it's any peace to you. I would put a sticker on her inclosure saying "DO NOT BREED" at this point, she is vicious. Hopefully your other female is nicer in that regard.
Lol he did all he could? NO, he basically did everything wrong! First off all trying to mate them in the middle of the day when these males actually would go to search for a female after midnight.. So the female 100% thought it's either a sick male or just prey. He didn't have any safety precautions, he just put the male in her enclosure which is the most stupid idea.. And 100 more things he did wrong
Imo her not breeding will be a good thing.
@@wioi Yeah, plus the moment we see him planning to use a fucking tupperware lid with one hand while filming it all with the other, this was pretty much a doomed pairing. Literally zero thought and preparation. Then when shit got wrong he overreacted like someone who never kept tarantula's before lol. Tbh I don't understand how his channel blew up.
@@ensiel4738 quit being so extremely hard on the dude. Its a mistake everyone makes them. We are all human damn.
@@wioi He did everything right, lol, he got the views. Channel is about too many animals, losing animals, and getting views.
He always one hands everything so the only natural reaction is for things to go very bad at a very quick pace
How the hell is he supposed to film it without holding the camera bruh
@@soup_fetcher_boi Tripod would help & him not running around flapping about & taking the time to set everything up before he starts filming. Watch Dave's Beastie's.
@@magpie92766 You can't get a good angle on the spider with a tripod. Plus, he isn't "flapping around" all the time, tf are you on?
Yeah man, with this species you kinda HAVE to see tapping, otherwise you're gonna end up like this everytime sadly... What I hear helps the female with her mood is feeding her 2-3 days prior to the pairing.
he fed her before the pairing, says the video description
@@hisokayk5350 obviously not enough.
I know he's famous as the one handed guy because he's always filming with the other but come on time for a tripod. Welfare of the tarantulas should be better. Evan in older videos I seen where 2 hands are definitely better than 1
Yeah, there are plenty of times I wished he'd use both hands for his own safety and the tarantulas. Though in this case even with both hands everything happened so fast. I doubt he'd been able to save the male.
Have to let nature take its course. In the wild this happens all the time.
@@danny208YT correct but a male saved is a male to be reused and not bought again
@@callumjohnson9433 Nature doesn't think that way though. If it's meant to be, than nature will decide. After all, there has got to be balance. And universal law states this by default. If this situation wasn't meant to happen, then it wouldn't have happened. There would have also been a successful pairing. Universal law didn't see it that way in this case. Nature also doesn't go by buy, sell, and trade.
@@JANEEDISTURBED this isn't nature its man influenced breeding. You protect your investments. If I have more than one female for breeding its counter productive to risk losing your single male during first time breeding
That was crazy you should feed her a big meal the night before pairing it might help and try to use the tongs to block u place them in between the fangs to separate watch Dave Little beasties bird eater pairing it might give u a couple of ideas so this won't happen again. Love the channel
Nice channel
He did feed her beforehand
He done that. Don't no one read the description first
HE DID READ THE GODDAMN DESCRIPTION
Exotic: "I am waiting so patiently"
0.3 seconds pass
Exotic: "k get on with it"
I'm no tarantula expert, but what if you used bars that are used on grills to keep between the pairing, that way the male can safely mate between the bars without being eaten?
That's such a great idea
This is like the main thing that’s so stressful of trying to pair a F with a M. Very frustrating to see your favorite spider go. :(
That's the 2nd male she's murdered... maybe next time something smaller like a spatula...... I've seen a friend use a spatula. He got pretty close to the T's and was able to block the takedown......ijs
Yes have u seen the bird eater pairing on Dave's little beasties he used the tonges to block it was so crazy and awesome to watch

This is a good idea
That's a good idea too!
That is what I was going to say. Another T collectors does that and has had no problem so far
"I didn't do anything!" You served that sucker up like chicken!

Watch this, about half way through, you'll see otherwise. ✌
That was a well executed spear! Edge totally approved
"Go my son, do me proud"
"Oh no, what have I done"
Male spider: "Hey ladies, I'm single and ready to mingle!"
Female spider: "I'm hungry..."
I have an INTENSE FEAR of spiders, but I absolutely love watching you 🥰🥰
Me too.
I've noticed that if the female responds to the male's movements BEFORE he starts tapping, the female is more than likely going to eat the male.
If she doesn't notice him UNTIL he starts tapping, she is usually responsive and the pairing goes well.
This...
When the male lifted his leg the female thought he was gonna attack so the female activated defense mode and ate him.
Male T: 🎶How could this happen to me?🎶
Nothing says scripted like when a guy tells you it's "definitely not scripted".
And you wonder why your T's spend their time hiding... Look what happens when they decide to come out and say hello! 😂
You should buy a larger container and turn it into a makeshift enclosure so when you want to pair the spooders they have plenty of room to get to know each other and they aren’t cramped. Because when they don’t have any room to move around their more likely to get angy
I may have inadvertently said “finish him” the moment she pounced 🤦🏻
Do you feed them before they mate Atleast??
Female T: I shall not respect the authority of your plastic lid!
Hey Exotics ilove ur videos and what ever happened to that LeopardGecko the old man gave u???
He didn't want the viewers to say anything about him just watching , when he could have been saving him. @@aaawindowcleaning9394 I don't need to watch it again lol. He is often very distracted though yes. One handed, waving it around wildly, muttering on and on about whatever nonsense. @@ggibson262 😆 🤣 😂
Yes agree with you. Time is best!
There's something you forget to point out, neither cats nor bees practice sexual cannibalism. The matter of the fact is that tarantulas are very different animals and you can't predict the outcome of a pairing. And also, tarantulas are not social animals, you can't expect them to get used to eachother because that won't happen. As soon as the female gets hungry, the male is done for
@@diondros well another T collector does exactly that and so far he has had no problems when pairing
Make sure she's well fed
Male: Hello there -raises hand to wave-
Female: WHAT DA F*** DID U SAY TO ME YE LIL SH**
Next time what I'd recommend doing, get a dummy enclosure for each of them, One that you can sperated with a slotted middle that can be removed. Let them acclimate on their respective sides of the enclosures for a bout a week... and maybe try luck,
She's a beauty but my goodness she's fiesty.
She’s a strong independent tarantula who doesn’t need no mature male 🕷😂

You can’t separate them with a lid
I think you should've fed her more before pairing, just to minimize the chances of that happening 😢

You've got to keep super still and not even breathe toward them in 'the moment' as they're so sensitive it reduces the chance of a successful mating greatly!
I agree but once she had grabbed him mabey blowing would of separated them
Exactly he is moving that lid towards them and back numerous times. The hairs on their body are sensitive and probably annoyed her. Just a guess but Dave little Beasties has no trouble. Calm as they come. He should watch Dave

No human could have stopped that. It was so fast, nobody is that fast.
I just tried to pair my 2 yr old LPs I've had since slings. He's definitely ready, but she definitely tried to kill him. I was fast, he's safe. Should I try again another time? I do suspect she's a month or more due to molt

Wow...this is depressing... Poor little guy. He wasn't ready
Lol you just wasted a long time growing that spider up to be dinner 😂
You pretty much fed him to her!!
Next time try it in an enclosure with a fine mesh partition. That way they can sense each other first. And if the tapping starts, and her body language looks good. THEN remove the partition. But if she goes primal, she can't get on him because of the mesh wall.
Exactly I said that before and so has others but he don't take no notice
You didn't give them adequate ground to work with, male T didn't have proper footing and got overwhelmed. I already knew it was going to go south when you put them together. Also make sure bird eaters are super well fed before pairing, if they refuse food and aren't moody, that would be the best time to start setting up a pairing.
You just threw him in there. No soft touch or finesse. No wonder she ate him.
Damn girl next time he can mate them on that big ass forehead since you know so much
I just love how every time a male tarantula notices a female they immediately freeze and go "oh sht oh fck" like *they know*
Man is a gentleman he said sorry to the catcher cup
Did you not feed her before you put them together
Yes he did
That's sad, he became lunch.
