john amos as james evans was absolutely my favorite tv dad. He was there for his family, loved his wife and children and provided at the best of his ability

John Amos actually was a talented football player--he had brief stints with both the Denver Broncos and the Kansas City Chiefs--in fact it was KC coach Hank Stram who encouraged him to go into acting/theatre
John Amos was the best tv dad ever Producers back then thought they were Gods !!! How long did the show last after he left?? They were in the top five when he left
