"Clubbed to Death" is an instrumental composition by Australian music producer Rob Dougan. It appeared in the 1997 film Clubbed to Death and was given renewed attention in 1999 due to its inclusion in the film The Matrix. It was re-released as a single in 2002 with new remixes. The subtitle Kurayamino variation is based on the Japanese for "of the darkness" (暗闇 の(くらやみ の) kurayami no. It denotes Dougan's own mix in a tragic style, as well as his stated inspirations from dark Japanese writers like Yukio Mishima or Yasunari Kawabata." wiki
The track also features in the You Tube video of the South African mercenary unit Executive Outcomes regarding their use of a MI-24 gunship in Sierra Leone.
For all the people who think this song was created for "The Matrix" or is its soundtrack: Only a short piece of this song has been a part of one scene in the whole trilogy. This masterpiece was created long before those movies in 1995 and was later (in 1996) used as Soundtrack for the same called french movie "Clubbed to Death", which is about clubbing (not actually beating someone to death but rather partying) and drug abuse and plays in Paris. Nonetheless it is a magnificent piece of art by Rob Dougan!
Absolutely... I remember the day this was released in the UK... I worked in a record store and we sold hundreds.... Deserved to sell more and chart higher.... For me it was mind-blowing...
The evolution of music, sampling, and history behind songs never ceases to amaze me. Elements of classical music from the turn of the 20th century, funk from the 1970's, and hip-hop from the 1990's have all been brought together here to form an amazingly unique piece of music. You'd never think you were digging on classical from 1899, would you? But without it, this song wouldn't be what it is. Fascinating.

The fact that the perfect 7:30 Kurayamino Variation remix of Clubbed to Death is not available on Spotify right now (the 18th of July 2024, EU) is a prime reminder of the world we live in: Everything is on lease, subscription-based and completely outside our control. A song we could listen to a few years ago now does not similarly exist now for our perusal, due to a contract expiring somewhere somewhen. We end up owning nothing. I say screw that, and this song will live on my hard drive until the day I die.
I heard it once before but it was the 90s so, like many other tracks from that era, I thought I'd never hear it again. Then one of my first CDs was The Matrix OST with this track on it. The title "clubbed to death" was so intriguing, twisted and exciting for my teen mind back then. But not as much as the track itself. I loved it, listened to it over and over again. Then it was played in clubs, even in mainstream media as background music for almost anything all over the 2000s. Up to the point where I couldn't listen to it anymore. Now that it almost vanished from the pop culture, I am able to enjoy this masterpiece again. All the memories from the late 90s are coming back

Lone Wolf the drum beat, and the way its looped is incredibly hiphop. Like hip hop from the 90s or something from madvillainy
There is no hip-hop in this. Hip-hop is not a musical genre, it's any kind of musical genre stolen and looped and rapped over.
