📼Video Summary:
The Vehicle Assembly Building has been used since the 1960s to build the rockets before they lift off from the launch pad. It has been primarily used by 3 rockets: the Saturn V, the Space Shuttle, and SLS or Space Launch System. The smaller part of the building has the Low Bays, and the main part of the building has the High Bays. There are 4 High Bays, and then down the center of the building is the Transfer Aisle. Large yellow cranes help move the pieces of the rocket. There's the Transfer Aisle Crane and then the 4 High Bay Cranes. As the rockets are assembled there are retraceable Work Platforms that can be moved in to enclose the rocket. The Crawler-Transporter helps move the rockets to the launch pad along the Crawlerway.

you should do starship!
Yeah, that would be awesome, I think he will leave it for when Starship manages to land on the tower@@jk_vr250
Ok
Can you do starship from space x next?
Hello Jared, I don`t understand, this video automatically translated to russian? All your previous videos was in English
Being able to go inside and lay down on the ground and look up is incredibly surreal. Growing up living 20 minutes from the space center, and seeing the shuttle launches from my front yard, I never forget how fortunate I am, growing up this close to science and exploration.
Thanks for sharing Shea! The building really is amazing

Does anyone else feel like the crawler transporter is one of the unsung heroes of the space program?
An amazing feat of engineering moving rockets for almost 60 years.
Yup. These two carried every single Saturn V, every single Shuttle, and now every SLS. They literally carried the US space program on their backs (at least until SpaceX)
This just shows how car-dependent the US is! In the USSR, they transport the rocket on trains... /joke
@@EdwardChan.999 Lol. I bet when (if ever) they get retired, some Texan will buy one and give it a lift kit.
lol if you look closer at it it’s close to a train. EMD engine driving electric motors
Amen to that - its one of those things that always in pictures of Kennedy Space Center
It's a little thing, but I really appreciate you saying "As of 2024 this is true," instead of "Currently this is true." Helps give any future viewers a slightly more realistic experience. A small script change that raises the integrity of your work noticeably.
Thank you! I appreciate that. I hope this video is relevant for years to come.
It's written in the description. whats the problem ?
@@mikemizanin666 Clown
@@mikemizanin666 No problem at all... I'm saying I'm grateful that Jared Owen does that. Sure it's possible to see the date a video is uploaded, but a casual high school researcher isn't necessarily going to check that.
I have no words, i would just agree with this
As an east Florida residence, I see this building all the time. Yes, it is that big.
😂
Florida man
mmmhmm largest “single story structure”
I remember being surprised that you could see it from so far away - poking above the tree line. Very impressive to see for the first time
@@JaredOwen Oh yeah, I can see it from all over the north Indian River Lagoon
I didn't realise how tiny the Space Shuttle was compared to the Saturn V or the SLS.
But makes sense since the Shuttle "only" needed to go in Low Earth Orbit.
I'm so excited for the Artemis Program and hope this is the start of a new Golden Age of Space Exploration.
Only orbit possible, yeah.
Take a look at the Saturn I sitting on its 'milk stool' prior to launch for the Apollo-Soyuz mission to see a great size comparison with the Saturn V.
I think, the Space Shuttle also might go to moon if it designed as soviet "Buran", which has own fuel tank for more powerful OMS rockets. Maybe for moon mission payload bay will be reduced by fuel tank. The modified shuttle will be orbiting around moon release moon landing module from payload bay and waiting before it come. And might be we got reusable moon spacecraft. Surely if NASA fix issues with orbiter's heat-resistant plates. And replace external tank to something else
@@savoxsaastuxl6598 Its not just "issues" with the heat shield, silica tiles will melt at the heat flux of a lunar reentry.
The Shuttle has its stages sitting side by side, instead of on top of each other. It delivers almost a hundred tons to orbit - although most of that is the spacecraft itself.
Thanks for making videos for idiots like me. You make me understand stuff i shouldnt be understanding and actually makes me interested in it too.
Thanks for watching!

A new Jared Owen video?! You would have thought it was Christmas at our house. My 3-year-old is obsessed with your channel and has learned so much from your videos (even if it has resulted in a few extra trips to Krispy Kreme). Keep up the good work!
Thank you Chris! Don't eat too many donuts😂
I was about to write this exact comment. Jared, Krispy Kreme owe you a kickback for all the traffic you drive there! Thank you for your videos. My almost 3 year old is obsessed!
Everytime jaren owen makes a new video. I know that im going to know something new.
I appreciate that - I'm glad you are learning from these videos!
Same for me
one of the most iconic buildings in the world, imo.
where the rockets are born
_we were born to inherit the stars_
Actually VAB also was used to assemble two other rockets: the Saturn IB during Skylab program and Apollo-Soyuz test project also the single ever constructed Ares I rocket for it's test flight (Ares I-X) before it was cancelled.
True - I thought about going into details on that but wanted to keep it simple
SKYLAB PROJECT!!! I have a game which there is a part called Stand Alone Laboratory.
@@SyarikatUTTPTerbalikIs it Space Agency? I used to play it

@@tvre0 yep
KSP was so good they made it in real life
its even called the KSC they really love ksp
To wrap your head on how really big the VAB is, each stripe of the US flag on the building's side is as wide as a highway lane.
Crazy 😮 I did not know that
That's just made my Friday a little better: A new Jared Owen video.
As ever it is beautifully animated, painstakingly researched, and thoroughly enjoyable. Thanks Jared
Woah great animation man, soon I will learn everything from you, good work and keep it up
Thank you!
Jared is a gem and a masterclass in his own right. I can't thank you enough for sharing your educational, dynamic, and concise story-telling videos with us. 😁
You are so kind Justin. Thank you for the support!
Wonderful and detailed video. Should be used in schools. Thanks.
Indoctrination camps like television? Nah. This is worthwhile, even better than fiction.
Jared, watching you assemble things piece by piece is statisfying. It’s almost like building a lego set! However, could you make videos explaining how engines work? I would reccomend all 3 airplane engines. Your videos are good, but not a single airplane video - yet. Please make a video explaining how planes work.
This building is a rocket and spacecraft cathedral. It's a national historic treasure.
УРААААААА, НОВОЕ ВИДЕО!!!!!!!!
Изменено (2х): 10 лайков? Это мой рекорд!
And I also caught Artemis 1 live as it left earth I watched it on a Live nasa live stream so it was pretty cool to see it launch despite the issues with the SLS in november
And then, there's some say we never went to the moon despite this immense effort.
Yes. Plus tons of scientific evidence that’s been available to scientists from around the world for the past 50+ years.
Thanks for this video dude! Kind of short, but very well done.
Glad you liked it, thanks for watching!
Good job this is awesome
Thank you! I tried my best to represent this building well
Hi kevin
i just wanted to remind you guys that nasa gets 0.4% of the national budget
dang, i thought 5%
Beautiful work as always!
Thanks for taking my and many fellow space nerd's requests to make this video! Very well done Jared!
I love your videos!
you should do a video on SpaceX's Starship, Starbase, and how the vehicle is built
One of the rockets assembled in the VAB not mentioned in the video is the Saturn IB, used to send astronauts to Skylab. Its second stage is the same as the Saturn V’s third stage, but it had only two stages total. To make use of as much infrastructure as possible, a “milk stool” structure was built on the mobile launch platform to bring the S-IVB and Command Service Module of Saturn IB up to the same levels as they were in the Saturn V. It looked a little strange, but it worked.
Jared Owen, you seriously are the kind of person who likes to study the INTERIORS of so many famous things that people don't even know how it works or what's inside it. You are such a good youtuber man! I appreciate your effort and hardwork. Keep it up! And have a like and sub from me!
Bet the Crawler gets great gas mileage.
Make next video on computer motherboard
Yes please
It may be more than a single story, but it does hold the world record for biggest building by volume. In fact, it's so big that it actually has indoor weather systems. Small rain clouds sometimes form near the ceiling.
Incredibly despite the slow speed of the crawler, the driver still wears a seat belt!
Rockets, obviously.
rockets of doom :D
😂😂😂 duh!
Humans too :)
Jared Owen’s uploads. I immediately watch. It’s that simple.
Much appreciated😎

Hi jared, i am from india so english is not my first language that's why i use subtitles for understanding these videos more clearly but i don't need any subtitles for ur vidoes bcz ur vocie , pronounciation is crystal clear for me thank you for these videos...❤
So happy to hear that! Thank you for the kind words and support.
Thanks for hindi video❤❤
I’d love it if you did a video on an express ski chairlift or gondola. But if you do decide to do a chairlift, do an express one. They are a lot more interesting and I think it would be cool to really visualize it with one of your animations.
He posted, and it’s the best video he could’ve posted
I remember taking a tour inside the VAB as a kid in the early 70’s. We were allowed in the building because the Saturn IV was unfueled during assembly. I went on to work as a civil servant for NASA. Security concerns and since the shuttle and SLS have fully fueled solid rocket boosters, open tours are no longer possible.
Woah! This is sick! Guess I will make this for my own school project.
This is fascinating ! I can't imagine all the hard work behind that ! Thanks for making so many space videos
This reminds me of my childhood, I always wanted to know about how NASA did things, and I also wanted to be an astronaut when I was 5 years old. So Thank you for this, it means a lot to me
Hi Max, I'm glad this was nostalgic for you! Thank for watching!

One can only hope that you have future plans to do the Crawler.
Love your videos.
I like the idea😀 Thanks for watching and supporting my videos!
Amazing video, will you be making a video about Starship soon?
Thanks Jared. I really learned a lot about the Vehicle Assembly Building from this 3D animation. Learning there are three ways rocket components are delivered: By boat, by train, or by airplane. My favorite is the airplane.
But of course depending on the components transported to the VAB the methods of delivery varies.
Another fantastic video Jared, very well done!!!!!!
Hi Alex, thank you for the kind words!
Good decision Jared by making content in multiple languages. It helps to reach your hardwork to the wider audience. Mension in pin comments that this video is available in multiple languages. Otherwise people don't understand it
Great suggestion. Thank you.
It's really awesome to see this building explained so well like this! Many people, even those who know a fair bit about rockets already, often forget that they don't just appear on the platform ready to go

Awesome job Jared!
Thanks Steve 😊

another amazing video Jared. My dad is an engineer at spaceX at the cape and I am just so amazed and impressed with your ability to not only create and show these structures inside and out but your ability to share a little bit of the story behind the spaces your modeling and creating. I would love to connect about a deep dive into the spaceX fleet of drone and recovery ships. :)
Thanks for sharing your amazing work with the world.
That's a very high compliment. Thanks Scottie!
When I was a boy back in the 50s we he a publication called The Eagle which contained comic strip stories both serious (Dan Dare, pilot of the future) and funny (Harris Tweed, a bumbling detective). My favourite was the centre spread of cutaway drawings of various machines. I still want to know how things work and your videos are a modern day version of those illustrations and just as fascinating. Thanks for all your hard work.
Hi Fernley, I'm so glad I can bring a sense of nostalgia and still show you how things work. Thanks for the kind words!
Fascinating!! Great video, Jared!
Thank you for watching Casey!
@JaredOwen of course! I get so excited whenever you post a new video. You really do an amazing job. Keep it up and Ill keep watching ✌️
