Meet Robyn Mudie Australia's High Commissioner to Sri Lanka who also has Non-resident accreditation to the Maldives. Here Robyn discusses the long and enduring relationship between Australia and Sri Lanka including the strong people-to-people links which began with the foundation of the Colombo Plan in the 1950's. In addition to educational links, Australia and Sri Lanka have a diverse trade and investment relationship. There is also a large Sri Lankan community in Australia and in 2012 51,000 Australians visited Sri Lanka which is an increasingly popular tourist destination and Robyn offers sound advice to Australian travellers. Australia and Sri Lanka also work together to combat people smuggling in the region, including through awareness campaigns to highlight the dangers of engaging people smugglers.
