Hello Will and Katy! Hope you are enjoying your time in Armenia.Based on what I observed in this video, here are some vegetarian and budget friendly spots and meal suggestions: 1) Zhingyalov Hats-Teryan Street 62, NE corner at Moskovyan, sign is in Armenian with carpet motif. One food item is greens and herbs stuffed bread. Just say zhingalov hats and show 1 finger. If you like yogurt, order "tan" a savory yogurt drink to go with it. 2) Lahmajun Gaidz-Tumanyan 0, just eat of Nalbandyan Street in a courtyard. Savory pies: spinach, cheese, potato, zaatar bread, and sweet tahini bread. If you are eating meat def try lahmajun original an Armenian meat flatbread. 3) Byblos Grill and Bakery-Arami 64, across from Holiday Inn and green animal figures. Red lentil kufteh (the one you ate in the video as dry and sarma (no meat rolled grape leaves), and their su borak (cheese lasagna). If you are eating meat, manti (meat filled ravioli), Urfa kebab (eggplant and meat order rice pilaf with it), and ishli and meat boreks or you can order the combo platter of that they have. 3) Dargett Craftbeer a few spots down from Byblos for the IPAs and they have beer flights with local fruit flavored beers. 4) Zatar Pizza-Hanrapetutyan 24 off Tigran Mets just south of Republic Square. Pizzas and similar items as Gaidz. They too have the manti (meat ravioli) and both Zatar and Byblos have red lentil soup. All three places above are Western Armenian cuisine, and they have middle eastern items as well at their restaurants. Tan, the yogurt drink goes well with the lahmajun and other meat items above. 5) Tavern Yerevan on Amiryan Street (make reservations). They have a traditional song and dance performance and diners can join in. Ghapama (rice and dried fruit filled pumpkin), eggplant walnut rolls, aveluk(sorrel) soup, bean soup, spas (yogurt and wheat) soup, grilled veggies, etc. Spas is the national soup and its generally good everywhere. Homemade juice compote and if you like tea, Armenian wild mountain thyme tea is very popular. 6) Sherep or Lavash restaurants (make reservations) is in the same restaurant group at Tavern but a bit pricer, mid range. You can still have some great eats on a budget at these places and a nice dinner. Wheat pilaf with mushrooms, greens pelmeni (its Georgian) and both places have good deserts. Do not recommend any kuftehs in #5 or 6 listings. If you do a comparison with the menus between Tavern, Sherep and Lavash Tavern is a few hundred Armenian dram less per item. If you are meating it, at Sherep or Lavash lamb ribs with grape leave dolma. 7) The Club-Tumanyan Street 0, at Ghazar Parpetsi corner. Very cool ambiance. Bit pricier, so many for a light snack or drink. They have a restaurant and cafe section. Their su borek (cheese lasagna) is very good. 8) Around the corner on Saryan Street is In Vino the first wine bar in Yerevan. You will see numerous wine bars around town. 9) Wine Republic-off Cascade. Asian and European items. Check menu when you are in the area if that works for you. 10) At Cascade: Malocco Cafe, Limone, and there is even Mexican Los Pueblos in that area. Those are cheap-mid price. Malocco and Limone are nice for coffee and deserts and have pastas. 11) Northern Avenue: La Piazza pricier but you can get pizza, pasta or dessert. Food is okay, but its an awesome evening people watching location. Tiziano-dessert. Il Solo Gelato just off/west of Northern Ave for ice cream/gelato. 12) Any Opera Square cafe at night. If you haven't been there long enough, 9pm Republic Square water fountain light and music show. Northern Avenue and Opera Square are main evening promenades and hang outs. It's not just a weekend thing. You will see a lot of people during weeknights as well. As you probably already noticed, lots of fresh produce and fruits for you to enjoy. It's fine to buy them from a lady selling one the streets. If you do eat meat, let me know and I can recommend those places. But overall, most places have great Armenian local bbq and meat dishes. Potatoes are tasty in Armenia. Avoid Tashir or Pizza di Roma. I made suggestions in the downtown/center of Yerevan. if you tell me what neighborhood/hostel you are staying in, I might be able to recommend some good/budget places there. Enjoy eating 😋 your way through Armenia! 🇦🇲 😊
Wow Lena! You are amazing! Thank you so much for taking the time to provide such specific details. We will go through this carefully and see what we can visit and try.
I loved it , can't wait to visit armenia 🇦🇲♥️🥂 lots of love from India 🇮🇳 amazing vlog definitely gonna add lots of things on my wishlist . Thanks so much ♥️
The public squares in Armenia all look so beautiful! The Armenian food you guys got looks really good too, potentially vegan friendly which I can get behind! I'm with Will on the IPAs too, definitely a fan. And I had no idea that pomegranates were so prominent in Armenia, very interesting stuff! The paintings of the mountain are so incredible too. Looks like a beautiful place!
We're constantly on the hunt for IPAs! Even when we find them they are not as hoppy as we'd like. We walked by a couple craft beer places so we'll have to check them out. Armenia is beautiful. The food we ate there should have been mostly vegan. Pomegranates everywhere. Really liked the paintings. Mount Ararat is so foggy / cloudy from the city, we'll have to see if we can get closer to it!
Yerevan is simply beautiful and charming..... I've heard people there are very nice to tourists.... Yerevan....on my next trip for sure. Super video... congrats
Yerevan seems be a town full of nostalgia everything from the car's to the buildings and the city looks really clean I haven't noticed a lot of trash on the streets the buildings are well preserved and taken care of and the grapes hanging down in that restaurant was super cool and all the gifts was so unique and colorful they really know how to entice your mind with all the statues and that definitely was the biggest chest board and figures I have ever seen the people here are extremely talented at everything they do and that green piano and elephant and horses just all the green statues was amazing to see so witytravels this have another amazing masterpiece and thank's for sharing this very unique and exciting experience 🔥 🔥
I also noticed that, during my last visit. I saw old women cleaning the streets, as a volunteer activity in spite of being poor ppl, which means it's a part of their culture, keeping a good image of their country. Love their spirit & good intentions. This country has almost no refugees or immigrants, that's why it's always clean. Sorry to say this bcz some of the refugees & uneducated immigrants show (without taking care) their bad habits, even when they move to a different country & culture, which is sad & frustrating.
Lovely presentation. A different style of vlog giving a virtual tour. Armenia is really beautiful and quite similar to it's neighbours Georgia..Lentil balls is something unique I have never heard. ..wow interesting to know that they teach chessn in the school. That open art gallery is so impressive..
Thank you! Glad you liked the virtual tour. Armenia is very beautiful. Looking forward to trying more food. Learning chess in school is very special. We'll have to find some artists we can communicate with better because the art is so nice!
I lived in Glendale CA for many years. At the time it was the largest population of Armenians outside the country of Armenia. So I was interested to see your vlog of Armenia!
Armenia is a land of happy smiles and warm colors, old legends and Biblical stories, a country of beauty, history and culture. Biblical Ararat - home of Noah’s Ark is the national symbol of Armenia. Good job guys.... Keep on like this) Introducing Armenia to the whole world 🥰 Love you
What a cool place; I'd definitely like to try some of that food! Though maybe not the cold mashed potato you said you tried elsewhere 😬😅 Great video guys!
Awesome vlog! I don’t see a lot of travel to Armenia so glad you guys seem to be enjoying yourselves. Looks like a beautiful country and delicious looking food.
@@WITYTRAVELS you’re doing beautifully, no worries, everyone makes this mistake and I automatically correct it when I hear it. Please continue to vlog, excited to see your journey.
Thanks for all of the support! Some situations are rough since we don't know very much Armenian. In our next video we are able to find some more English speakers so it's a bit smoother. The big chess board was really cool. We didn't have chess class back home so those kids would easily defeat us lol.
Great video guys, always pleased to see people highlighting the fantastic things Yerevan and Armenia have to offer. Just a heads up, the beer you sampled at 11:00, Kilikia, is named after the Armenian principality, and later, Kingdom of Cilicia, which existed between 1080 and 1375 on the Mediterranean coast, situated where Turkey's Mersin, Adana and Hatay provinces are now. It was an important ally and stop-off for European powers going to fight for control of the Holy Land. At one point in its history, its king was a Frenchman!
Love the thumbnail guys! Wow the artwork is so nice in the street! That big chess game looks so cool! And damn fake grass how disappointing haha! Great video guy!
Hello guys nice video welcome to Armenia hope that you enjoy your stay in our small country Noah's land Armenia 4 souvenirs visit vernissage you can find every thing there take care
Kilikia is the most tasty type of beers in Armenia. I've drank as much as I could during the 3 weeks visiting this beautiful country in 2019 & I hope to repeat this adventure again in the coming future. Pomegranate wine is also remarkable & tasty, especially the one that is called ARME. I recommend it for everyone who tries to taste one of the best types of wine in this expert country producing wine after France & Portugal.
Yea, we really like the Kilikia. We can see why you liked it so much. We really miss pomegranate wine! Thanks for the recommendation on your favorite one. Happy New Year!

I don’t know what I expected Armenia to look like? It certainly looked more Central European than I was expecting. You can’t beat fresh hummus and a beer! Hmmm. The weather in Armenia has been great. It's only rained once and has been pretty sunny and warm. We like pints of IPA or Amber Ales but those have been few and far between. We were dragging towards the end of the video. We needed the sugar rush to make it back home and to bed. Markets are gonna be a hoot!
