  • These newer style Harbor Freight jack stands have been out of a while now. But this is the first time ive had some hands on experience with them. Are they going to be the same sketchy contraptions that the older style was? OR... Is the redesign decent and they don't make you fear for your life anymore? Watch and find out!

I use the blue 3 ton harbor freight stands whenever I’m working on my F350 8500lb or my old F250 6000lbs, granted I only have the front or the rear lifted so I’m working on a triangle not a square and a good chunk of the weight is transferring to the opposite wheels. I’ve never had issues. You guys who keep stuff lifted on all 4s in a square shape for long periods of time, I can understand using the heavier rated stands.

yup long term projects make me feel more comfortable on the heavier ones, another big thing is the heavier the rating typically the taller the stand goes. The 12 ton go up to a perfect hight for the things I do.

Just bought 2 pairs of the 3-ton Daytona jack stands: one from the area where they are normally stocked and one pair from the promotional stack-out at the front of the store. When I unpacked them I discovered one pair was less robust than the other. The saddles were narrower and the saddle finish was rough. The "Pads for 3-Ton Jack Stands" fit the beefier pair but were too large for the less robust pair. Both sets were labeled identically, but one pair was clearly inferior. I returned the one set and brought one of the more robust ones with me so I could show them the difference. We opened up another box from the promotional stack-out and it was also of the smaller dimensions. A bit worrisome.

I'll tip my hat for H-F stepping up to replace the more dangerous older ones a few years ago

The 22 ton with the pin, is the only thing I’d get under.

Unfortunately I can't have everything that high in the air. When you still have to work inside the vehicle and under the hood its quite annoying to have the rocker panel 36" in the air

I only use/buy jack stands with those pins, no reason not to.

I get it, the more safety the better... that being said I've also used nothing but jack stands without the safety pin for the last 30 years and never had an issue until the cheap harbor freight ones

You can return the old 12tons to the store for a $150 store credit. They fall under voluntary recall.

The recall is technically on 2 different 3 ton jack stands and their 6 ton jackstands... I didn't see anywhere that the 12 ton were listed. The recall notice right is right on harbor freights website. I'm just curious if there's something I'm missing here

@@kylesmith6515 yours were the 12 ton as well? I did not see the 12 ton listed under the recall I've looked at before

There are recalls on three different versions of the 3-ton models and one version of the 6-ton model jack stands. No 12-ton models were ever recalled, but there is a voluntary “recall” where the customer can return any of the 3-ton (8 models), 6-ton (7 models), or 12-ton (4 models) Pittsburgh jack stands at their discretion for either a cash refund amount or store credit, which is a larger refund amount as opposed to a cash refund. Google “Harbor Freight jack stand refund information” for a complete list of items involved and their appropriate refund amounts.

Google “Harbor Freight jack stand refund information” for a complete list of all jack stands that are available for refund/store credit. They offer a larger amount of refund if you opt for the store credit.
