It definitely depends on the personality of both animals because my two cats are very friendly. They leap into my arms everyday, meow when I leave for too long, hug my legs, and follow me everywhere. But I totally agree on the training part. In my experience it's easy to teach them to do tricks, but it's impossible to get them to stop scratching walls and furniture. They do what they want and that behavior can only be redirected, not fully trained out. I think that their independence is very charming though. Dogs are just too human-dependent for me. They need to be taken outside multiple times a day, they need to be walked, they need high energy playtime, and they need hours of attention or they'll get depressed.
