The first thing I changed on my Gretsch Catalina Club Jazz (Copper Sparkle) kit when I bought it over 10 years ago was the heads. Like you, I chose Remo Renaissance. My snare drum has the Renaissance batter and the Renaissance snare. The sound with brushes is amazing! The textured surface does not wear off like the coating on the coated stock heads. In addition to the stock 14" x 5" snare drum, I have a 14" x 6" Gretsch Catalina Maple snare drum (Blue Sparkle) for larger venues - also with the Renaissance heads. Best combination, ever!

These C Club sets sound great. The bass drums are boomy, I put an impact 2 head on mine and it helped greatly. You brought out the best with that awesome playing. Great job 👍

Great sound and value these days, however the upgraded heads and Mike Johnston snare, help make a big difference…
They actually have a lovely vintage sound, when tuned low..
I have this with a 20 inch DB, Brooklyn COB and a Evans g2s. They sing!
Hi guys, I bought Gretsch catalina club 20"/12"/14" and I have a problem with rack tom. The mounting system totally kill sound of tom. If i hold tom in the air - rubber part of mounting doesn`t touch the tom, it sounds really great, but If the rubber part pushes to the tom, it sounds really bad without sustain. Do you have some ideas how to fix it without using snare stand?
Mount it as low on the mount arm as possible and get your height from the main post.

Love gretch but never liked the snare drums! They are great for all styles.
