Enjoyed your NYC video. My husband and I visited NYC in BC (before children). They are now in their 30’s. It’s time for us to revisit. It is one of our favorite city’s. Can’t decide if getting there on Amtrak or RV would be best. We flew or drove in prior visits. Thank you for sharing. Safe travels.

Yep, watching people back in is always the thing to watch. Best one we saw, was the couple where the wife had two ping pong paddles with red and green sides and used those to direct the husband into the site.

Fun times with the kiddos, I’m 43 and almost done! From 14 to 18 blows by and so many changes happen. Young girls start to pull away but will take your things. Its a pain but their way of being close to mom while loosing their dependence on you and boys do things like climb into your bed and nap. They still need mom and dad but don’t want you to know that! What great memories your kids will have! We just moved into out RV 4 weeks ago! Going great so far! Knew absolutely nothing and did little research just jumped in head first! Its going amazing and watching your videos has helped so much!!! Thank you

I thought a lot about my Mom during this video because she took a trip to New York and she took a movie of the places she went to and showed it to us on her movie projector when we were young. When we lived in CT we never drove into the city. We would take the train into Grand Central Station and use the subways all over the city. It gave me chills just seeing where you parked your RV. We visit family CT and camp there. We would still drive to the train station, park there and ride into the city.

Oh yes we always watch trailers coming in to park and seeing how they back in and always see people watch us back in. We have used two way radios , hand signals( not good) and finally went to using our cell phone and calling each other before we start. Hand signals are always funny because if they can’t see you in the mirrors, you can’t see them

I personally prefer doing hand signals. Started back in 2006 with our 32' tt. We just got a 42' 5th wheel and have used the radios but I do revert back to hand signals which we find more effective and less noisy than the 2 ways.
    Glad you enjoyed your trip.

Decades ago when I got my first 5th. I had a major problem getting into a tight site. I must have struggled for 20 minutes till I got a knock on my window from a guy sporting a large beard. He told me to put it in park and move over. I did what he said and he pulled the trailer out into the road and backed in perfectly on first try. Turned out he was a long haul trucker with many years experience. What was great of him he explained step by step his process. I currently drive a 2017 2500hd and pull a 38ft Montana High Country

That’s the best part. We had this old couple once that the guy was having trouble backing. His wife was getting frustrated so my wife offered for me to park. The next 4 years they made their plans around ours so we could help them. They gave us home grown corn one year melons another and Cheerwine soda another. Also at the KOA in Chattanooga a guy was having all kinds of trouble parking a brand new Montana and Dodge truck. I offered to park it and the man couldn’t move fast enough. After I parked it I saw the awning was missing and asked what happened. He forgot to bring it in and hit the building on his way out of his last Rv park. So yea I watch them

It's not as common as it used to be in NYC but when you look like a tourist you're a target. I grew up just across the river from NYC. I went to Tech school in NYC in the 80s I've seen so many things pickpocketing, snatch and grab, and worse the best advice is try not to be obvious you're a tourist. Be careful out there.

That was my first thought when I saw her wearing the backpack and I was like NOooooooooo!! First rule of survival in NYC is don’t look like a tourist and Charity puts on the backpack, Texas tshirt, cameras, etc. The second rule for surviving NYC is to understand the Cops will not help you! They will see a mugging occur and they will turn and walk away. Seeing cops everywhere does not mean your safe in NYC, your never safe in NYC, NEVER!!!
Several years ago we traveled to upstate NY to attend a family members graduation from The Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park NY and we were about a 30-45 minute train ride from the city and there’s absolutely no way you could have paid me enough to go into that crap hole of a place which is sad cause there’s a lot of interesting history there but it’s not worth risking your life to see that history! There’s enough other interesting history, actually probably more interesting, in the upper part of the state. The entire area outside of the city is rich in history and doesn’t come with the risk of getting mugged around every corner. I don’t mean to be a Debbie downer but this is one dangerous place nowadays since they began catering to the criminals!!

I try my best not to watch others back in. Being a newbie myself I understand how much added pressure that can be. Before I had a trailer I was stuck on the loop in my car waiting for someone that was having a really rough time backing in. I tried to show my patience and understanding. He ended up getting backed in far enough so we could pass but I waited because it looked like he needed to straighten out. Apparently he didn't like this and waved me on with what appeared to be a few choice words I couldn't hear as I passed by. Later on that day we passed each other walking the loop and I asked how the rest of the setup went but it was clear he didn't want to talk about it or to me. I have replayed this in my head many times trying to figure out what I could have done differently other than maybe showing less patience.
Depending where we are staying, I do try and keep an eye on anyone else hitching up or leaving the campground at the same time as I am. I assume they will want to use the dump station so I will speed things up or slow things down to avoid, the best I can, creating a line to dump.

In this episode you share about the mattresses you’ve purchased. Can you please tell me where you purchased the wood bed frame that’s shown in your home when you’re unpacking the mattress (not the RV bed).
P.S. We love your show, it’s quite entertaining and informative. Thanks a bunch!!

Thanks for the kind words! We bought the bed second hand on Facebook marketplace so unfortunately I do know where it’s “originally” from. Thanks for watching our videos 💙

I love watching people back in::)) I’ll be that guy if they need help, I’ll help. Crap I’ve even been asked to hop in someone else’s vehicle and back their camper/5er in for them. Just takes practice. Most are older people that are used to pull through sites:))) don’t get me wrong, live me some pull through sites after a long day of driving::)))

My wife and I were going to take a trip to New York City and stay in liberty Island RV park this fall but we were scared because everybody’s talking about a diesel shortage did you guys experience any trouble giving diesel on the East Coast on your trip

    • @GratefulGlamper
      @GratefulGlamper  2 роки тому

We had absolutely ZERO problems getting diesel fuel. It’s just expensive LOL - but we use the TSD card and have saved significantly with it. apply.myopenroads.com/r/grateful-glamper

Anyone warn you away from the Elmo’s… people dressed in costumes in Times Square. They try to get you to take a picture with them and pay them. Careful, some don’t have clothes ( warning for the kiddos) but body paint only.
