The way it sounds almost like a sob. The cathartic upswings. The high pitches at the edge of his laughter. This is some of the best voice acting I've ever heard, period. Not just for Light's laugh, but the entirety of his voice. I wonder what kind of work Miyano put into it to make it such a masterpiece. He truly has my heartfelt respect as an artist.
It's the best performance in anime for me. Truly just the bone-chilling laughter of someone who has totally lost it.
I wholeheartedly agree. Where most of my jaw dropping awe stems from here though is in 0:17-0:20 where his voice goes polyphonic. His voice achieves releasing two different voices simultaneously. Listen. There’s a very high pitched laugh behind the main one. His effort on this laugh is so intense and so cathartic and breaking, that he achieved A POLYPHONIC VOICE. THERE ARE THE VOICES OF TWO PEOPLE COMING FROM HIM ALONE NATURALLY.

It's just Japan man. They take voice acting to an entire different level, dedicating school time and resources to the art.
