- Legolas and Gimli/Elf and Dwarf LOVIN!
This is my all time favoret pairing and the only Fellowship pairing I write (or in this case make vids about) I love this pairing but it does not get enough attention! :(
IT IS TOTALLY CANNON! READ THE BOOKS! LEGOLAS AND GIMLI- LOVERS FOREVER- WOOT!
I love this video. From their first explosive meeting at Elrond's council you knew those two would wind up together LOL. I also love that during the course of the story how both Legolas and Gimli never hid their affection from each other. You make the best videos.

Wow this is amazing. Finally I found some Gimli/Legolas slash stuff. In the book they are such big soulmates. They really belong together. I think Tolkien really implied a gay relationship here.
I don't think their love was really forbidden since they wound up together for the rest of their lives. LOL

They really do. In the movie it looks more like a Legolas/Aragorn slash. But in the books its obvious that Gimli and Legolas are a couple. Like Amberanime says, visually Legolas/Aragorn makes more sense. But come on Gimli and Legolas are just sooo meant to be together. I loved reading that they stayed together and travelled middle earth together. I dont think peter Jackson insulted the dwarves with gimli. And if he did he made up for it with The Hobbit. Thorin is very kinglike.
Yay! Someone else who knows the term Gimleaf! XD Even if Tolkien was a hardcore Catholic I don't like to dismiss the idea that Legolas and Gimli are, a least, a metaphor for homosexual relationships. But then again one of the great things about Tolkien's work is that he left things open for debate/discussion- kind of like history. So even if he didn't intend for Gimleaf to be cannon, it doesn't mean that its not... if that makes sense?
John Rhys-Davis as he is in real life is more like book Gimli than the one in the movie :P Eloquent and stately and tall (tall for a dwarf, anyway) and poetic and very, very well-spoken. I wish we'd seen a bit of that. I don't mind Gimli being a bit rough, but I'd have liked to see his silver tongue at work.

Exactly! People can't tell others that their interpretation of something is wrong. If someone sees Gimleaf in The Lord of the Rings then they see Gimleaf. You can't take that away.
As a side note I must know where you heard the term Gimleaf?
Ah well good question. Well in my fan-fics I normally see Gimli as the dominant one. I normally see him as more self-confident and ( am sooo gunna be hated for this) a little more mascaline. But on a archive I saw tis picture of Lassie in a french maids outfit! On the Arda Erotica slash site, ther is this fic called "Submission" by Theresa Green. U sud check it out.
And it is great to find some more L/G supporters since it's practically a cannon pairing! XD

Well, to be honest, Tolkien himself, during his life, was actually pretty pissed that a lot of people did not recognise the religious themes that he had tried to put in to the books, so I think he definitely wanted them to be interpreted a certain way. However, that's just not how it works. If people see Gimli and Legolas's bond as romantic (because it's clear that they DO have a strong bond,) then that's how they see it. We can't exactly fact check the relationship of two fictional characters!

Visual wise It would look hotter with aragorn and legolas but you can see that in the movies legolas and gimli have a connection that even aragorn can't reach. Though I all honesty all 3 are friends/brothers for life I would recon.

As for the pro elves , well Lord of the rings is more focused on elves. Besides Gimli there is not more dwarf to speak of. The hobbit however is all about dwarves. Though at the end of the book dwarves are not portrayed as some noble hero's but more as greedy with still a good hart. Tolkien didn't desing dwarves to be herotic and noble. Yet Gimli is just that. In book and in movie. Ergo he is awesome even if he is a bit silly sometimes in the movie. Gimli is a gem amon his own people.

And finaly the elves are described to be the most fairest and wisest of all. It would be weird to portray them any different. Sadly the Lord of the rings did not have room for much dwarf en they do travel trough 2 elven homes and no dwarfish ones. (moria doesnt count; no dwarves alive). Though I would have prefed more Gimli action in the fights. My one complaint. I can understand the younger actor though. I loved Rhys performance but Gimli was a tad younger. Though not so much as Kili /Fili.

Maybe the just thought John Rhys-Davis would be a good Gimli. Although as a Gimli fan I thought that Jackson's version of Gimli was off character and an insult to the dwarves.

I disagree I loved gimli in the movies more. A bit more relaxed and easy going/funny. That is an improvement. Though I do think they should have given Gimli more fighting moments. He had more of those in the books. He seemed a bit underpowerd in the movie still he was awesome.
Besides he was loyal and brave and strong he legolas and aragon had a real brother like bond. How is that an insult? Those 3 did their races proud I would say.

Again I disagree.Elfs can outdrink dwarves. In fact they (and the elves Legolas hails from especially) drink lots of wine and Elfish wine has more punch than other drinks in middel earth. As for the vulgar part. Dwarves are not a very polite folk. They are in many ways opposites of elves in that way. I do think movie Gimli was more silly, but I emjoyed that. It gave a touch of lightness to a dark story. I loved Gimli. He is one of my characters and my fave dwarf (13 new movie dwarves included)
Those words do describe Gimli but I doubt Gimli would support the BNP!
I think that Rhys-Davies was a little too old to play Gimli, plus they made him out to be too vulgar and used him for comic relief too much. The film sided with the elves a little too much. Like the drinking game scene, completely off for both characters. Neither or them would say ANY of the things Jackson had them say, plus an elf could never out-drink a dwarf! :P
