Eugene Stoner said the forward assist was not needed. The US contract mandated one. Eugene argued all was needed was the operators index finger.

Nice looking firearm, man. I'm a fan of PSA, also. I'm currently working on a building an M16A1 clone, using an H & R gray lower receiver, the H & R gray A1 lower parts kit, and their gray retro charging handle. I'm waiting on PSA to have more A1 uppers in stock, they're OOS at the present time. They sell out quickly. Did you purchase your upper as a complete upper? If so, is the muzzle device pinned and welded, or is that the reason you're using a blade rather than a stock? What brand of lower is that you're using? I like the looks of the H & R 653 Carbine, it is badazz. I think your upper, when configured as a rifle, was actually called the GAU 5, the rifle that was used in the Son Tay raid in Vietnam, a special ops mission in which U.S. Special Forces staged a rescue mission of captured U.S. soldiers, but upon arriving, it was discovered the POWs had already been moved. If I'm not mistaken, the two apertures on the A1 sight are exactly the same size, unlike the A2 sights, in which the larger aperture is for closer range, 0-200 meters and is marked 0-2, with the smaller aperture reserved for longer distances. The difference in the two apertures on the A1 is simply a difference in the height of the apertures, with the one marked L reserved for longer distances. Again, nice rifle/pistol and thanks for sharing! By your pseudonym, I take it you're from the Appalachian Mountains, as am I. I'm in the North Ga. mountains and have been here all my life. Can't beat it! Have a Merry Christmas and a prosperous new year!

Sweet rifle. I am getting that model for my dad's b-day. I would suggest getting either a Colt or Brownell's G.I. metal mag to use with it since that's the retro look. What Magpul sling are you running? It is perfect

@@JR-yn4cu Nope, that's accurate to how the OG XM177s were in Vietnam.
