You will need to reflash your radio with OpenTX and make sure that the EU tick box in the options is not selected. Lots on this in places like the OpenTX university cover this. Best of luck!

They seem to have stuck with 170615 for now (they had a later one, but it was no longer available after the website update). I doubt they are going to do anything else crazy with it (the later update just changed the name of convenient mode). I did a complete setup with convenient mode in under an hour.

Hi, finally it works. I used "Frsky update sport " software and cable from my PC to update the internal module. The transfer looked ok but something seems to have gone wrong. Later I tried copying the firmware file to the TX SD card and flashed internally from the TX, and it worked, both EU LBT mode and non EU mode with change of Firmware in RX.

    • @Painless360
      @Painless360  3 роки тому

It will still work but not what you are supposed to be using. Most European sellers can only sell the EU versions of stuff now so that is normally what you will get if you buy in country. Best of luck!

@@Painless360 Thanks for answering. I understand that but I will most likely buy my radio on a website outs of Europe so I will very probably get a non LBT version. The one I want doesn't even seem to exist in LBT. So my concern is primarily about the sanctions I risk if using a non LBT version in an EU country. Can I get fined? Does it cause a true public danger? Will I get the army or the police knocking on my door as soon as I switch it on? How does the FPV community react to this legislation? Is it simply discarded or taken seriously?

    Hello Painless360.
Thanks, for the many very informative videos.
I have again and again RX Loss disconnections with the LBT Firmware. For two different copters, one with a Frsky RXSR and one with an XM + receiver.
The setting in the Taranis x9d plus via D16 channel 1-16.
I have now read that these connection aborts can be prevented by the D16 channel 1-8 mode.
Have you heard about it and can you confirm that?

Thanks for this video, very interesting. However, I dont think it deals with everything. I know that I can bind to brand new EU-LBT receivers (marked as such on the packaging) and the only mode options I have are D8,D16,LR12. It would be nice if it was possible to unequivocally identify the firmware version from the menuing system. Pretty sure that what I have on the radio though is EU-LBT, despite the modes matching with your description of non EU. It would be very useful to see an explanation of this anomoly.

As someone in the market for an FrSky Tx to run some small whoop style microquads for indoor flying once the fall hits (as if it isn't rainy enough already...) I wonder if the problems with flashing are only centered on the Tx, or have they region locked the actual receiver chipsets droneside too?
Also, is that tip still legit? Because I've known about the D8 protocol trick since I started reading up on RC but I was worried they'd changed that along with the region locking.
(Obviously I live in the EU, and there really aren't many non-chinese options for buying small quads.)
Edit: Ok, hadn't watched the very end of the video, thanks for clearing that up, I guess I'll just pick up the Taranis once the weather gets bad enough that I can't fly my usual bird XD

I realise this is a very old post now, but I just came across it. I am in the UK, using FrSky stuff, and the EU LBT stuff is a pain in every way.
I would be very interested to know if you understand how all this came about. I know the EU has its RF rules - sensible or otherwise, open to argument - but how is it that only FrSky ran foul of this? There are various other protocols out there - Spectrum, FlySky for instance. None of those have had to have to produce different protocol versions for the EU, yet they seem to have perfectly good range and performance.
Is it that FrSky just designed a protocol that happened to get it wrong in respect of the EU, once EU rules were later formulated, or have the others just not bothered to get legal?
I must admit I have difficulty in understanding the logic of Listen Before Talk (LBT) on a spread spectrum radio. The whole point of spread spectrum is that because of the pseudo-random frequency hopping, it is very resistant to interference, and increased use just has the effect of raising the noise floor in the band for other users.
I must admit to feeling pretty put upon here in the UK. Firstly there is the FrSky international / EU protocol situation, secondly there are ever increasing rules and regulations (registration > 250g now, registration for all come July, possibly electronic id in future), and now FrSky are trying to lock in the customer base with ACCST 2.0 and ACCESS.
Just because you're paranoid, doesn't mean they aren't out to get you!

+servet92 I believe that you can get around this by having the LBT firmware on the radio XJT module an them still have the D8 protocol available by not selecting the EU option when flashing OpenTX.. I've not tried it personally both other subscribers tell me it works.

More range is helped by higher power levels. 100mW is the limit here in the UK and in the USA it's 200mW.. Power is set via choosing the country in the radio setup I understand..

It depends on what the radio is using, you want the matching receiver. A LBT radio will normally have a sticker saying LBT or CE on it somewhere. You can flash a receiver using the radio if you get the wrong one, I do it all the time here..

Shane Harrison Maybe. In my case the RX is not a discrete unit, rather a chip that's part of an overall FC board.

First off all Painless 360 thanks for all of your good videos and instructions. I am building my first drone and as a matter of case i have a non eu receiver which i have to flash. Maybe you can give me a hint. i have done everything as in the the videos suggestet - have triple checked the wires and so on. Everything is fine but i dont get the menu entry "Fash ext. device " all i can choose is "delete" (the file). Any ideas. Br to all ...

    Hi
Can you help, I have the frsky xlite and the frsky Apus MQ60 b/f. It’s my first time looking at betaflight, I have bound my xlite to the quad ok, but here is my problem...., the left stick on my xlite has the throttle and aileron swapped round.
    My question is,
1: how do I swap them around
    2: why has this happened.

Hi! I live in Finland EU and want to get into micro fpv racing drones and later maybe bigger race drones. On top of this I would like to try out fixed wings drones with iNav and gps some day. I already ordered the Hawkeye Little Pilot fpv Goggles and now I am wondering what fpv transmitter/controller to get in order for being able to buy at least micro drones with built in receivers from banggood, AliExpress, Gearbest or the like. Very interested in for instance the Mobula 7, E-max Tiny hawk and the like. Would it then be a good choice to buy an international version transmitter/controller like the Taranis x7 or x7s? I’ve looked at some of your UA-cam vids on the subject. Have I understood it correctly that an international version controller always can be flashed to become EU-LBT version and back to international version, but a Taranis controller bought from within Europe always is a EU-LBT version and stays that way? Thank you for your nice UA-cam vids! Cheers, Ken

Hi I need some advice please I bought a taranis X lite s from bang good and and set it up on beta flight, and all went well but since im new to this hobby I put the tick in EU when setting up my radio so now its EU-LBT and since I have just bought a Emax tiny hawk 2 which is D8 I can not Bind to the Tinyhawk. Would it be possible to re flash my radio again but this time not putting the tick in EU or would that mess my radio up. I would prefer my radio to be on Non Eu since it would then support D8.

    • @Painless360
      @Painless360  5 років тому

Selecting EU doesn't make the radio EU-LBT, just removes some of the settings from the OpenTX installation (i.e. D8). You can re-flash the radio without EU selected to get back D8... Best of luck!

Hi Lee, i'm going to build a s800 with f405 with inav, not sure what RX to use, i have an XSR and X8R, im not going to be doing 5km + so L9R not required. What RX will give me a good 2km range. Also, does non EU firmware give better performance?

If you're in the EU then you should be using the LBT firmware. The range of the XSR, X8R and the XM+ should be very similar. 2km is pushing it on legal 2.4Ghz though..

Yes been there done that .
Bought my taranis late 2015 .
Purchased two 3 / 16 channel receivers for my drones .
Then last week bought a 8 channel rx for a glider guess what it wouldn't bind .
    New rx runs LBT .
So contacted supplier he told me that my taranis is old firmware. He sent me a Link to show you how to flash the firmware yer right there was so much stuff on the open TX website I haven't got a clue what I was looking at .different release dates you needed drivers. I didn't want to bugger up my radio installing something and wouldn't work at all .
Im not that technically inclined. To flash new firmware
So had to purchase a LBT module . I love the frsky radios excellent value for money and the way you can change the switch allocation
But so complicated for me when they keep changing firmware I just want to install the radio in a model and fly .I've got a spectrum but your stuck with the switch allocation.
And I bet in a couple of months if i want to buy another rx then that probably won't work ether.
They would have changed the firmware again.

So if us in the UK/EU have the eu lbt firmware on our beloved taranis, happen to buy an international receiver we can simply flash that receiver to eu firmware, or are we just better off buying an international transmitter and sticking 2 fingers up at the EU bureaucrats. To be honest this is the only thing that is stopping me buying frsky right now, it all seems ridiculous, you don't get this with flysky

I bought the TGYi10, much cheaper, and unbelievable easier to use. touch screen, and a very smart settings. since I got it, the taranis is eating dust and rust.

the way to go, is touch screen, and easy to set

Ok thanks, another thing I was completely puzzled on was the fact that almost all the qauds on banggood have non-eu recievers. So I’d have to get a new reciever and it would be fairly complicated. I wanted a nazgul5 but there and none in the uk. I couldn’t find any decent 5” bnf drones here! All shops are out of stock and they don’t have much anyway, do you use a non-eu tx? Since you get your drones from banggood, would be great to know as I don’t know what to do. And would using a non-eu tx be against the law? Thanks
