  • Homeless dog who spent all her life on the streets gets rescued by Howl Of A Dog. A foreign tourist who was visiting Romania and who was following our Howl Of A Dog UA-cam channel, contacted us about a stray dog she kept seeing on the street during her stay in a small resort town. When we got there, the locals told us that the dog has been living in that neighborhood for years, and everybody there seemed to know her. Helen, as we later named her, was one of the lucky strays, accepted by the locals as “the neighborhood dog”, she had a relatively safe place and received food scraps from passers-by. But life on the street is rough, especially for older dogs like Helen who need to face the cold winter, rains and storms, deprived of any medical care and always in danger of getting hit by cars or harmed by not so animal friendly people.
It’s hard to find the right words to describe Helen, she is absolutely an amazing dog: so calm and friendly with everyone and extremely well mannered. A wonderful, pleasant temperament. It’s really sad that a dog like her had to live on the streets, alone, for so many years. And the resort town is also visited by thousands of tourists…Yet nobody seemed to have noticed Helen, until now, when this very kind lady from Finland spotted her and contacted us.
The plastic tag from Helen’s ear is part of a neuter-release program that took place until 2013, meaning that Helen was captured as a stray during that period, got spayed and then released back on the street. So she's been out there alone for at least 6 years.
Helen needs now an adoptive family, the loving home she's never had. She is in our care in Romania, but can also be adopted internationally to the US, Canada and Europe. For more details about her and the adoption procedure please visit: www.howlofadog.org/helen/ Many thanks!
***UPDATE: Helen has been adopted: www.howlofadog.org/helen-adop... . Many thanks everyone for watching and sharing her rescue video and helping Helen find her perfect loving home!

I was borned in Bucharest and lived untill the age of 18 years old untill I left the country but I remember my father worked in a factory and they had alot of dogs there, the big dog there was called Dix and he was mix of german shepard, he was big but gentle and inteligent, my father use to work night shifts and sometimes he took Dix to our home from the factory, he always stood by the side of my father untill he reached our home where we give him food and a warm place to sleep, there was alot of stray dogs in that time in Bucharest but he never left my father to chase them or anything, even if my father had to travel long distances by foot he followed him and waited untill he finished his work.

She was sick before. When I first adopted my rescue he was only 3 but would just lay and sleep mostly. At first Vet visit they found a high level of Lymes disease basically same thing Helen had a tick born disease. After he was on medication, two doses he was finally clear and healthy. Halfway through the second dose he started walking lighter and more happy. The next week he was running and playing and retrieving balls, swimming at the lake. He was like a puppy suddenly and still is at 8 years old. The Vet said he probably had the disease st a young age and that untreated disease caused him stunted growth because he is small for a male lab. But we don’t care we love him so much! Can’t imagine life without him now. My other rescue, a little beagle/terrier mix came to me very stressed out and mistreated, so afraid and is now a happy relaxed little guy and loves to be running around in big fields of grass. Rescues rescue us. I wish I had more room for Helen and not so far away.

IDK IDK : I see. Quite simple really. I use a colon due to force of habit. To separate the name of the person I'm contacting from the text. With these types of YT comments and replies it's not necessary because as soon as I click on a message the poster's name or user name appears. As I say, with me its force of habit.
It often used in TV or film scripts, again to separate the name of the speaker from their lines. Glad to oblige where I can.

You could see how she was so happy to be rescued! She seems like such a sweet dog. Lucky family that got to adopt Helen.

Every time I watch a video like this, my heart feels so heavy... Every dog in this world deserves a loving home. They’re giving us way more than what we can provide them.

I would rather see orphaned children find loving home instead of a stray dog. Especially those children that suffer from living in dangerous countries such as throughout the Middle East or Central and South America. My heart feels especially heavy for them.

Michael Paliden - Thank you for your thoughtful comments. I guess my composition, in your opinion, has not been mixed yet since I don’t have the same feelings for a pooch than I do people. Actually, I do like dogs, and cats, and raccoons, as well as many other 4-legged creatures. They are all part of our animal kingdom. I just have a bigger heart for homeless, underprivileged human beings. As a U.S. Marine that has deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan, and saw first hand what the ravages of war inflict upon fellow human beings, I just have a softer heart for displaced people that arrive at those situations through no fault of their own. I support animal rescue agencies wherever they exist, and feel bad for those pets that cannot help themselves. Respectfully, I personally feel that more resources should be diverted to protecting and properly housing our children and their families, which should be first and foremost, as opposed to spending towards other, less critical organizations.
