Leah is such a joy to watch, she's very nurturing like a lil mama, lol. Benji I learn so much about different foods on this channel, some people only cook every video its nice you mix it up and take us with you, so fun. I miss mama too, wait until Leah starts to watch videos she did with her again, but maybe later on when she really understands.

The sweet glutinous rice balls are for a sweet soup-like dessert called “tong yoon” (Cantonese) or “tuan yuan” (Mandarin) or commonly known in English as “tang yuan”. The sweet soup base often consists of water, ginger slices, sweetened with rock sugar. Other popular sweet soup bases are: red bean soup, black sesame soup, and fermented glutinous rice/sweet osmanthus/rock sugar. The balls with fillings are pretty easy to make from scratch, but most people tend to make the soup from scratch and add in the store bought frozen balls for convenience.
I call it “tong yoon” bc my 2nd language is Cantonese and it originated in Southern China. It is typically filled with sweet black sesame paste or a variety of other flavours. There’s also a savoury version of this, also called by the same name.

beer w ice normal but is also preferential! in manila most establishments do serve beer cold AND with a bucket of ice on the side, so you do have that option :) but as you said, maybe some areas dont have refrigeration so ice is definitely a must :) also, there are many different types of bagoong! much like your salts they also have different tastes and textures lol but generally the same salty fishy umami (and sometimes sweet and/or spicy!) flavor profile. You and Judy should try stir frying with it!

You can slice bittermelon into thin slices, then sauté garlic, onions, tomatoes, add bittermelon and 2-3 eggs. Ampala-yum! You can search for ginisang ampalaya with egg recipe. To prep, wash the sliced bittermelon, sprinkle salt, rinse and squeeze. So it isn’t too bitter. I eat the dish with calamansi. Hehehe. Good for breakfast with rice!
