Friggin WOW! Definately the best lineup Wilco has ever had! Jay Bennett RIP, I loved your guitar playing , harmony singing and friendship. I miss you still bro.
This is from February 1997 -- Feb. 17, if my memory holds. Irving Plaza, New York. I was there! Jeff announced from the stage that the concert was being taped for an HBO special. I didn't have HBO at the time, and have been hunting for the footage ever since. Thanks for posting!
I live in STL and he was hesitant when the band first formed (Wilco) to play this but he's very comfortable now and this and Casino Queen (across from the Arch) are usually always played at his STL shows.
Saw them at the Troubador, same time as Being There was out. Jeff wore pajamas. Winona Ryder and Rosana Arquette were in attendence. Incredible show, 2 nights, 1 was broadcast live on a local FM station.
Saw them play August, 1996 in Huntsville, Alabama at a small town jam. Were known as the ex-Uncle Tupelo band. Probably about 25 people were there, ignoring Travis Tritt and a pianist/bizarro act called Jason D Williams nearby. Little did we know then that in a month the legendary Being There would be released.
@CancerWTF Time for some Uncle Tupelo 101: When the band split, Farrar went and formed Son Volt, while Tweedy and others formed Wilco. This song was originally an Uncle Tupelo song, but in this video, it is being performed by Wilco, which explains the absence of Farrar.
Wilco has always been a great band and continue to be, despite a slightly different sound with more technical and polished musicians in their current line-up. While I prefer their older, more country/roots-rock stuff, I saw them live last year and I was blown away by their incredible performance. Jeff Tweedy is a God
Le genre de musique que j'accroche tout de même, c'est très bon ,vous ne pouvez pas ne pas aimé on peux-tu relaxer des fois dans ce monde là . En plus il faut monter le VOLUME encore meilleur
@SirRedSun88 I love the twang, but bro, wilco has evolved so well. Ya i would dig a more country roots vibe, but i just saw the group a week ago and fucking believe me, the group is so complete with nels.amazing group.
Nels isn't trying to play these songs like they were played nearly 20 years ago. Nels has a fine grasp on the subtleties and reinterprets them into his own style, not Jay's.
@jliver69 Me too, definantly casino queen, I never knew that of this and to the other comment above, they split musi rights like John and paul. I never heard them play each others Tupelo songs live. There both moving forward
Went to see them at a bar in 2000 in Iowa City. Walked out thinking, what the heck happened to Wilco. Worst mistake of my life. I've since made up for it.
I mean, I don’t want to spit on any graves here, but at this point Jay figured he was Lennon to Jeff’s McCartney. Jeff didn’t see it that way and sent Jay packing. Migraine vomit and diet coke, on display in I Am Trying to Break Your Heart.
I was working for the band this show. Good ole days. RIP Jay.

personally i love both jay bennett and nels cline, two different styles, and they do it well

This was my first of many Wilco shows. So good we drove to Boston the next night for more.

Awesome coated awesomeness with an awesome center. Loved Tupelo, love Wilco, always loved this song! RIP Jay Bennett...
love this song, sadly popped in my head today because of the earthquake in Haiti and someone on local radio mentioned the New Madrid fault line
Saw 'em play in Champaign a couple of times when I was in grad school...Jay Bennett lived down this street from me for a bit, too.
Did you see his band the Farm Boys sir?
Mabels
God I miss the lounge Axe days. Got to see them there so many times.
RIP Jay. First saw Wilco at HORDE Tour in 1994 or 95 in VA. They played one of the side stages...Blues Traveler and Black Crows were the main acts.
Much rather see wilco😁
good stuff all of it..

That's awesome. I only got into them around 2004 or so, but did see them in Huntsville in 2006 (I think)
They are still the ex Uncle Tupelo band for some of us sir
@@TheFlite29 That's called Son Volt. )
Bob Egan is the guitarist to John Stirratt's left. He toured with Wilco between 1996 and 1998.
This is great. I do agree that Nels tends to lose sight of the subtley of many of the earlier songs...
I love this drummer 😊
That was a great lineup......fucking Wilco man, the best
Jeff's shirt tells everything anyone ever needs to know about awesomeness.
so fun to see ( and hear!)
this footage
Amazing video of such a cool performance.
My God that was great.
Happy Birthday Tra. Thanks for turning me onto Wilco!!

Realmente armónico y bello!
Who said an SG is only for rock and heavy, that's a great twang sound to me.
what a f'in band! Geeeezzzuussss
@bfdecem I think this song is prophetic. Strange things with the New madrid lately
Any day now brother....
Cool !
just the right touch!
Love them! RIP Jay xx
its an Uncle Tupelo song. Jeff was in that band so I guess it's kinda a cover, but he probably helped write it.
@AdamSewell Its an Uncle Tupelo song. Jeff was in that band.
Whis the cat playing the dobo, or national guitar looks like willes son
Awesome. Out of curiousity, where did you get all these old videos? They're great.
my god that's good. oh my goodness that's goodness
That almost looks like Rob Baker from the 'Hip on national.
It’s a long haired Bob Egan!
why isnt there that banjo part!!!
@SirRedSun88 I love the twang, but bro, wilco has evolved so well. Ya i would dig a more country roots vibe, but i just saw the group a week ago and fucking believe me, the group is so complete with nels.amazing group.
Thumbs up if you dig Tweedy's puffy, pirate shirt!

Jay Bennett was fucking incredible.
Thank you Guy Raz for having Jeff Tweedy on The Great Creators and posting a link to this video.

Viva Paree... Listen to the Uncle Tupelo version.
Tweddy and Bennett woulded be like Simon and Garfunkel of our time. Sad end :(
Yeah, they were a lot like Simon and Garfunkel - look at how volatile both relationships were.
@CorContreras I second that, dude!
I fucking love this!
Is that Ted Cruz playing Bass?
lol yes that was him when was younger (he was still a dick back then)
Thats fucked up.
Bahahahahhaa Even more hilarious in the year 2021!
Jeff Tweedy wrote the whole song.
I was there!!!!
