For those who don't know, The Game Kitchen is a studio based in Spain. I'm a Spaniard myself, and I can tell you we are over the moon over here. The Ninja Gaiden series, while not exactly mainstream, is nevertheless quite popular among Spanish harcore gamers who grew up in the 90s and 2000s. This is also a clear sign that our industry is growing, since we already have three studios that are quite famous, or at least well-known worldwide: Mercurysteam, The Game Kitchen and Nomada Studio (creators of "Gris" and "Neva"). It's quite an exciting time for us.
As an indie dev myself, I would love to make a follow up to Ice Climber. I think a vertically focused 2D platformer where each climber has slightly different abilities could be really, really cool.
This is how I feel about a sequel to Zelda II. I honestly think that game has incredible foundations. It was was just too soon for the series to experiment that hard, and also they couldn't help but lay that crusty nes design on THICK
This was an amazing start to the show. I'm always talking about wanting new entries in older series like this in their classic styles, I'm particularly a huge fan of Ninja Gaiden. I'm just super excited to see a new 2d entry after so long
I think it’s important to remember that being an indie studio that has to work with publisher (even more so an IP holder) is a BIG risk for the studio. If something goes wrong in the development process, the publisher will live but the indie studio might disappear. I think this is partly why it’s so rare. There’s too much risk for the indie studio
@@shigerumiyamoto9612My thoughts are they weren't ready to touch the series before Sakurai retired from Smash. Now, although it's technically too late for Smash Ultimate, perhaps when whatever Nintendo does for Switch 2, the series may show up again.
The birds knew he was talking about Ninja Gaiden. They know what's coming for them... But yes- Dotemu bringing about a bunch of retro-revivals has been a highlight of these last few years. Not all of them hit, but I'm just happy they've brought this out as an option so game publishers look at them and go "hang on, what if WE...", and that does my nostalgic heart good.
I think the only thing more satisfying is that publisher going back to that IP and deciding to develop it themselves in house You guys I’m SO READY FOR THE OKAMI SEQUEL
Forgot this game was announced at TGA, it looks SOOO good. I haven't played the Ninja Gaiden games myself, but this VERY much gives the vibe of old Castlevania games (Rondo of Blood, SOTN, etc.), which I love. Also loved the animated segments of the trailer, looks a lot like the Castlevania show, which again I'm a huge fan of. Definitely a game I want to get when it releases, visually very cool and just looks fun to play.
First, you get The Messenger which was inspired by the original Ninja Gaiden series and the two leads loved it. Then we get an actual Ninja Gaiden Metroidvania in the 2D series. It feels like coming around full circle.
@@agreedboarart3188 I'm assuming because the Boss Room they showed has doors on both ends, which usually only happens with Metroidvanias. And the developer's other games, Blasphemous, are metroidvanias themselves.
I just had the greatest mental image of blue monster Arlo opening the door to his backyard to yell at the birds in his non-aggressive Arlo voice, asking them to be quiet, and then walking his blue self back over to the mic to keep recording 😂
this was one of my most anticipated of the entire showcase! the entire trailer looks absolutely wonderful. The gameplay looks smooth and fast and the entire thing will just be a great experience i think! Ninja Gaiden is so back.
Exactly why I'm excited for Sega's thing they revealed at last year's TGA where they're working with studios to make new entries in JSR, Golden Axe, Shinobi, etc. The Shinobi one especially for me, since I loved what Lizardcube did with The Dragon's Trap.
You mentioned you don't like the anime style cutscenes... However, this is much more faithful to the NES Ninja Gaiden gemes, because they had cutscenes in a very similar style. I love the old NES games and haven't played anything beyond the 3rd game. This new one looks amazing!
This is exactly what I wanted Nintendo to do with the studio that made the Fast indie series. I got hopeful once Fast RMX came to the Switch. But it seems all we got instead was F-zero 99 and legacy titles online.
What a great and insightful video to make, especially considering the fact that Arlo's never even played a Ninja Gaiden game! Usually we just talk about the games we love (or hate), rarely does someone go up and beyond that. I don't like the way Arlo pronounces Gaiden though, it's just off. Minor gripe tho. :D
This absolutely needs to happen more often in the industry. Imagine long-lost Nintendo series getting new games from smaller studios. F-Zero, Star Fox, Kid Icarus, Rhythm Heaven...
Yes, even if companies don't reboot a series to make a new game, AT THE VERY LEAST they really should be selling or licensing it out to devs that will. No more locking shit in a vault just so that it can potentially end up on a pachinko machine 10 years down the line.
