I know Johnny alway hated this recording and show, but I disagree. It’s raw and compelling and a true testament to performing something meaningful when you’re not at your best. What a giant talent.
Yeah, that's what I love about it. Like you said, it's RAW, and because of that it's one of his greatest shows ever. You never hear music like this anymore because everything has to be so perfect... And they just don't make them like they used to. Modern society doesn't allow people like Johnny Cash to exist.
"Gotta Travel On" seemed to be used as a closing song back then. I remember it was used to close the show in April of 1966 in Green Bay, WI, my first Cash concert.
He was in a very bad condition here due to drugs and his wife sitting in the audience while him being in love with June...True piece of history this recording.
As you probably know, that Carnegie Hall show is infamous for how out of sorts Cash was. Allegedly, they were going to tape it but turned off the tapes when he showed up under the influence.
According to Johnny Cash: The Life, this show was actually considered a success as it came a few weeks after a performance at Carnegie Hall that was, by all accounts, a train wreck. Legend of John Henry's Hammer was actually brand new at the time, as Cash had only just recorded it in the studio.
i was watching My Father and The Man In Black at it said at this concert which you can hear at 21:47, Johnny Cash just walked off without saying anything
Came here hoping someone would mention where to find the entire concert.Im looking for the Louvin Brothers performance at this concert.Ira is my Grandfather and Charlie is my Granduncle.
JohnnyCashfan66 Thanks. I finally found a streaming file with the entire Louvin Brothers performance at the Hollywood bowl. I think It's an odd performance.
JohnnyCashfan66 Thank I finally found a streaming audio file online. The entire Louvin Brothers Hollywood bowl performance. I think it was odd performance to say the least
Somehow Marshall Grant considered both the Carnegie Hall show and this concert to be triumphs. By Cash's own account they were both marred by his parched throat due to his amphetamine consumption. Truth is he was mortified by both performances.

An important part of history. Cash made a huge contribution to 20th century popular music. Thank you.
I've always heard about this performance, how "out of it" J.R. was. It's sad, but it shaped his life and the legend that I love.

Love Luther Perkins and Johnny obviously. Thank you!

With how big Carnegie Hall was compared to this one, I'm greatly surprised and deeply saddened that there isnt any recordings of him there.

There is a recording of his 1994 Carnegie Hall concert on UA-cam.
Hes voice sounds sick

Just happy to hear ol Johnny
Didn’t even even have to tell people his name. That trumpet gives it away.
Cash retratou seu tempo com sensibilidade de gênio
The idea of the Mexican horns was innovative.
Hey. Hello I'm Johnny Cash!
TY for the upload
You are welcome, comments are very appreciated!
How can we call this the full concert if it doesn't include any of the other singers?

What tuning did john use in this video
Long time ago
Is this a soundboard recording or an audience recording?
@@spinitagain529 It sounds to me like a soundboard recording, but I'm not positive.
@@JohnnyCashCentral That's what I thought. Thanks for responding!
He must have good genetics to have taken all those amphetamines and not have anything happen to him.
He died when he was 71 years old
Aidan Martin but from diabetes
He OD'd in 1966
