    As always clear concise , to the point and excellent! Very helpful filling in my knowledge gaps! Spot on with everything, and even more so with "Rome isn't built in 1 day", and your need to invest and test first before you see results is what many forget! Unless you have urgent demand for something that does not exist, but for your product, your sales curve, let alone your hockey-stick effect will take time. As always keep up the great work! Tks!

I've have been running ad for 7 listings with 1$ daily budget for exactually 1 month, results: 4067 views, 55 clicks and 0 ROAS. Great video and appreciate the insight. I'm newer on the POD side but used Ads from the start, basically because of all of the reasons you explained. So it's refreshing to see a positive view on the Ad side since most say "they never touch it".
    I think the one thing that drives me crazy is knowing lazy sellers, while doing research, click on your ads instead of finding the product another way. It's something I refuse to do when I research out of respect but I'm guessing many of these sellers aren't bothering with ads and just don't understand that side of it. I get curious when I see a favorite pop up so I have a tendency to check who favorited it and look at their favorites. I'd say a good amount of the time, around 30-40%, I can tell it's a seller adding it to their research list. Wish there was a way to eliminate that and have them stop wasting valuable money. I guess though, it does give you extra clicks that might help but obviously can skew stats. Just curious if you feel like that's a negative side to the Ad process. But it might be different with the products you sell. But just a gripe of mine :)
    Enjoying your videos and really liked your interaction with Ryan in his community. Made me start watching your content, which is great.

    • @EcomHannah
      @EcomHannah  10 місяців тому +3

      Yeah, the safer play there is just turning on ads that organically take off first and slowly add more overtime but there’s no harm in going balls to the wall and testing out everything, it’s def faster, but also, if your store is super new, get some reviews going, that will help the conversion rate

    Awesome vid Hannah, thank you! My questions are:
    Does the "ad goal" you select near the bottom of the marketing/ads tab impact how Etsy advertises your listings? If so, are you able to break each goal down?
    - Increase visibility and awareness:
    - Drive orders short-term:
    - Promote specific items:
    - Take my sales up a notch:
    - Maximize my exposure to help compete against similar shops:
    Thanks in advance!

    • @EcomHannah
      @EcomHannah  10 місяців тому +1

      Yes they are also super cryptic on how this affects your listing, in my experience you always want to optimize for more sales so I have mine to "Take my sales up a notch" which is confusing compared to the other options but on all media buying platforms we optimize for more sale conversions so that is what I have mine set to, if you read deeper into each your just going to confuse yourself haha so I would not base the success or failure around this setting

  • @sufisufi123

    Great advice Hannah! I come from a media buying background as well and I feel that you’re one of the few Etsy sellers on yt that actually gives advice I can relate to 😊 But also what do you think about only turning on ads during certain times when I know i get the most traffic or sales in order to be more conservative on ad budget? Or should I just leave it to Etsy algo to decide? for context my shop is only about a month old

    • @EcomHannah
      @EcomHannah  10 місяців тому +2

      Awesome thank you so much for the loving comment! This is a good point I would say for holiday driven products you really don’t need to spend ads on them outside the three months leading up to that holiday. For Evergreen products that sell all year around you would probably want to leave the ads on for them of course if they are doing well long-term.

  • @asmith4786
    @asmith4786 8 місяців тому +1

    Your approach is much more honest than most . So many are saying that you don’t have to spend any money to be successful on Etsy . It makes sense that you will need to invest in your business. I make a high percentage of my sales on weekends should I increase my advertising on the weekends and does it affect me negatively when I change the Spend amount often .

    • @EcomHannah
      @EcomHannah  8 місяців тому +1

      No because it is ppc so that means you only pay when you get a click that’s why it won’t spend your whole budget this is unlike Facebook ads, it will actually spend your whole budget regardless of clicks and push your ad to unqualified viewers just so it can use up the daily spend. So technically if your niche has less shoppers during the week days you’re spend should still be proportional to sales since there are fewer people clicking on your listings

What is the best of the 4 options to choose if you would like to get consistent sales, not just short term? To me the options don't really make sense when you don't yet have so many sales and you want ads to push your products and sales. Hope you can clear this enigma. :)

    I have another question to add to your list - I have a brand new shop (just passed my first 30 days) and I’m wondering whether I should a) up my ad spend or b) drop some of my listings that have zero sales from my ad budget. It seems too early but some of my listings have a ROAS of 0.5 or haven’t sold at all so I also don’t want to keep losing money.
    For context, I sell printables and I’m spending all of my ad budget every day (1400 clicks for my first month and 55 sales) BUT I’m also not breaking even yet on my top line either 😅

    You are talking about checking ROAS that aren't breaking even and analyzing the listing before shutting it down. One of the things you check is the lifetime ad revenue compared to the lifetime ad spend, which gives you the marketing cost %. Then you say that if that isn't breakeven, you need to ask yourself a few questions like signs of momentum. So, my question is, how do I know if the marketing cost % isn't breaking even? I hope my question is clear.

      Interesting, I come from a media buying background so unfortunately the idea that you don’t have to spend on marketing eventually will not be an option as niches get saturated this is true for all ad platforms, so it’s better to get comfortable with the spend sooner then later and lock in a business model that makes sense with it on in my opinion

    • @Laura-je2uw
      @Laura-je2uw 10 місяців тому +1

      The only opinion that wins is the one that works for you. For me it is just logical math that in order to get my product seen by more people i need to reduce the background noise by investing in ads. The most important thing here (what hannah always stresses) is to only run ads on listings that are perfect in any way possible (seo, listing image, high demand etc). If ads do not work it is due to one of these points not being properly modified.

    Hi Hannah,
    Thank you for making such informative videos for us. A quick question : I started selling Custom Christmas ornament last year (Not POD) , I opened my shop on august 2022, and from august to December I sold around 3000 ornament and made around 27k profit with 48 active listings and I spend $600 on ads within this period of time because I couldn't keep up with the orders and had to stop the ads. My conversation rate was %8.4 .
    Then as expected my sales went down because Christmas was over obviously. I wanted to try the ads during the year but it dropped my conversation rate to %7.2 .
    I am planning to add 70 more listings (I have prepared the designs already) , and I have opened second shop last week with 80 listings, and sold 6 ornaments already. (My brother will manage it) . I hope I can catch it up this year !

      Oh okay makes sense! It’s pretty early, but you could start running ads now or you could take the safer route and let the organic sales come in and only start pushing those listings with ads, which would be a safer play

Yes, for now I only sell Christmas Ornaments, my goal is hitting 75-100k profit this year with 2 accounts, and then I have plans of doing shopify/Dropshipping during the year, so that I can make money outside of the Christmas Season. If you have a course about it I would definitely would like to check it out before looking for somewhere else.

    My overall adspend is $20-$40 more than my revenue. Will that eventually improve so that I can make a profit? I want this to become my full time job -but wonder will I make a profit! I’m pretty new (with being consistent)-digital products $5-$40 price range -81 listings (started March/April 2023) 51 sales, 10 reviews. Overall 1.3% conversion (last 30 days conversion 2.1%) I hope someone can tell me if I’m on the right path or should I stop spending on ads. Most sales come through ads, organic sales come in the minimum??

    • @EcomHannah
      @EcomHannah  10 місяців тому +2

      100% on the right path! Focus on digital assets that you can sell higher ticket and bigger bundles and then break up those big bundles so you can make and sell smaller ticket items out of them. Especially when you’re new so much learning happens just making those first 100 listings and you improve so much just by doing it over and over and over again.

      @@EcomHannah Unfortunately, I'm sure. It's happened to me once. I'm under two months in (a rookie) but have a couple of strong listings that both had 20+ in carts. I woke up one morning and all of my "in carts" were gone. Upon research, I learned in the Etsy community forum that Etsy moves the "in carts" into the "save for later" every 30 days. This makes ZERO sense for both sellers and Etsy's bottom line. Frustrating!

      I came across a video you did about a year ago where you tried pod. Have you dabbled in that anymore because I designed a few t-shirts and sweatshirts in the very popular Bella 3001 and Gildan 18000. But in my opinion, I'm not that impressed with their quality. The sweatshirts are soft but they're really quite thin and the outside doesn't feel very soft. And the t-shirts while they're lightweight, in comparison to other lightweight t-shirts that I've had, they just don't feel that great either.
