Start by finding a walking or biking group. Then bike or walk with a group in your state or city. This is one way to find out more about going barefoot with like-minded people. For example, bicycling barefoot in Athens with the Athens-Clarke Bike group was no problem at all.

I started walking barefoot about 7 months ago. Not full time, but doing a lot of things barefoot. Shopping, running errands, hiking and walking in nature. I started gradually building confidence. First I walked outside in nature where nobody saw me. After that I walked barefoot on a sidewalk in town where I did not encounter too many people. Then I went into a store which was not too busy. Then into big supermarkets and public places with a lot of people. From July on I did not care anymore where I was barefoot or how many people saw me ☺️ It's so awesome and feels sooo good!!
@Peter Spa Wow!! How amazing; your story fits the first confidence video perfectly. Thanks so much for sharing. It shows that starting gradually and building confidence (physically and mentally) is indeed a great way to going barefoot! Can you tell me a little more about why you chose to go barefoot in the first place? I would love to make a stories video about your journey. Thanks!🙂
@@barefoothomestead Sure I can tell you! I was hardly ever barefooted outside before, except when swimming or at the beach 😁 I'm a casual runner a couple of times per week. Once I made the mistake of wearing "wrong" (too low) socks and got a painful blister near my achilles tendon due to friction of the edge of shoe at this area. I can could hardly continue walking, let alone running. The main pain relief would have been to take off the shoe to avoid this part of the shoe causing friction there with basically bare flesh at that time. And from there on, I noticed how wonderful it is to go barefoot and feel the ground below your bare soles and this freedom around my feet. I struggled a lot that first time because the ground was partially very challenging with sharp little stones and gravel. But it was still a very good feeling which I wanted to experience again and again, and that's why I stuck with it and gradually increased my barefooting time in public for many activities 😀 BTW, still running with shoes, but did many other daily life activities barefooted and am happy with it 👍
@Peter Spa What a great story! Thanks so much for sharing more 😀 Hope to have a stories video out in the near future.

Just found your channel . Once after being questioned about my bare feet I stopped , looked down at my and and exclaimed "What? did I forget my shoes AGAIN? I also have had some very nice comments like , You feet must be very tough! or You are very brave , or even , I wish I could do that. So far I have never had negative comments but I only walk barefoot at home and on nature trails
@Dan Can 🤣🤣. What did the person say after your funny remark? It's so refreshing when the comments are nice isn't? I am glad you found our channel and thanks for sharing your experience. 🙂
@@barefoothomestead People who make snide remarks are not doing it as a conversation starter so there usualy no response. When people notice that I am barefoot they are taken by surprise so there comments are very spontaneous. most have never even heard of barefoot walking let alone encountered a barefooter or, as my daughter calls us, earthwalkers. It is still very unusual, but them so am I . I really look forward to the day that I encounter another earthwalker in my travels, that will be EPIC!
@Dan Can 🤣🤣 Earthwalker is a great term! I love it!! Also, it's true; often it's not really a conversation starter. And come to think of it, I have also never met another "earthwalker" in my travels; that will be epic indeed! 🙂

Nice video, nice channel; thanks! I thought the part about alternative answers to questions was funny; not because you were trying to be funny, but some of my answers to people who had no business making comments about my footwear, were a little more direct, a bit harsher. and I make no apologies. Most of my responses are a variation of, 'mind your own business'. When they try to be funny: 'You forgot your shoes'. 'You forgot you manners'. I wish it didn't have to be like this, but that's not the real World.
@timoz26 "When they try to be funny: 'You forgot your shoes'. 'You forgot you manners' " 🤣🤣 That really cracked me up! Thanks so much for sharing some of your experiences. I also wish so much that it wasn't like this, "but that's not the real world".

@mike's man stuff You asked me a question in a different comment about what feet I like. I simply enjoy walking barefoot. It also makes me glad to know that other people enjoy being barefoot and have benefited from such a simple practice of walking. Cheers! 🙂

I think this 🦶🏼🦶🏼 is better than 👣 ... I'm in this "family" since at 2 (two) years old (in 1961). That was the fashion there, in that village of my country Romania, where I grew up 😊.
@@Dinu-desculţ 🦶❤️ Agreed to that.

YES, my dear barefoot friend Mike ~ @@mikesmanstuff , I was born in Romania (in 1959) and I also want to die here. Of course, in my life I have also been to Italy, Greece, and Bulgaria, just on barefoot trips.
And speaking about of death, I have already left an official document to be buried barefoot only. Where I couldn't live in shoes for more than 3 days non-stop, how will I be able to sleep forever? I would think I was taken in the hell ⚰👿 !!!
Hello there, a very enjoyable informative video. I thought it was very well presented with great tips. Let's hope people will watch this video and kick off their shoes and go barefoot more. I like the way your channel is really trying to promote barefooting. Thanks again for another great video 👍
Thank you 😊 @Paul Foulds. I hope so too!
@@barefoothomestead you are really you a barefoot beauty barefoot homestead
I think it's beautiful for a woman to go barefoot in public.
I very rarely see this these days
@kevin fonte This is why I am trying to provide good reasons for going barefoot to both men and women. Maybe some will freely choose to go barefoot 🙂
I remember when it was a common thing to see a woman...a younger woman...go freely in public barefoot. Grocery shopping, the pharmacy, just walking down the street ..for any reason to go barefoot in public. These girls were generally friendlier, more approachable, and there were more smiles and eye contact from them...at least a sort of nice, pleasant, gentle spirit.
It's a shame that barefooters seem to always have to "explain" themselves. Does a person with green hair get questioned? Does a person sporting 30 visible tattoos have to explain themselves. How about the woman on the bus with six piercings in the ear? Nope. Barefeet? Oooooo! Oh my god? Ugh!!! That's why I have written stories about future societies where bare feet are totally normal to the point where people draw attention to them.
@torydz That's so true. Every single day, someone asks me or my husband why we are barefoot. Even if we don't go anywhere, someone may come by selling something and when they notice the children are barefoot outside or I am barefoot, they ask. Folks around here are very aware of the scientific research I'm part of and the doctor who gives me these strange ideas about health improvement. 🙂🙂 Are your stories available online?
@@barefoothomestead I wish I had kept my stories, but I wrote them in the early 90's and submitted them to a magazine called "In Step" back in those days. Written on a typewriter and sent in through the mail in those days! No internet back then and the originals are long gone. Since bare feet were not "normal", especially in those days, all of my stories contained fantasy elements where the characters were for some reason FORCED to remain barefooted. The feet contain hundreds of thousands of nerve endings and act as kind of "roots" for the rest of the body (think of reflexology). My one story had a lady whose nerves were so in need of stimulation that she got violently ill if she even dared to cover her feet.
Yeah. Feel you.
Ignore negative reviews weird looks barefoot walking it's feeling of freedom it allows get out the norm it's a pure happiness that feet feel the ground feet need to breathe i practice barefoot walking in hike last years i started mid may up to end november since i started again 10 february i did 23 i have heels rough i keep always the horn under feet no shoes barefoot are coffins for feet
I suport you 👣❤️🙏🌍
@Quentin Fornal That's amazing! 🙂 Did you pause in November due to the weather? Are your feet now better able to handle rough grounds due to all the practice you've had? Keep up the great work!! And yes we should ignore the looks and stares for sure. But if they affect or stress us or stop us from going barefoot, a simple disguise is nice and helpful. 🙂
@@barefoothomestead Howe du you feel aboute feet's 👣❤️
Do you like male and female feet's or is it more the lovely fealing to have your feet free
Love your Chanel and love to watch you walk barefeet
@@barefoothomestead my last walk at the end of november and when i resumed in february it was 7 degrees celsius for me it's impossible to go below. By dint of doing this walk i can last longer and over a longer distance on certain stony paths or on a fairly hard surfaces otherwise i keep my shoes minimalist
@Quentin Fornal OK, that makes perfect sense. Cold weather is difficult for me too. And congratulations on the improvements. 🙂
"Why don't you wear shoes?"
"Then why don't you wear a wrist brace?"
"Because I don't need it"
"I don't need shoes either"
What comes up next:
"Don't you know that there is a dress code?"
@K 008 I have been thinking about your comment and I feel it may be best to give a couple other options. As the video recommends, you can either (1)prevent the questions or (2)answer them. In your case, it may be best to prevent the question. I hope these extra ideas help.
(1)Prevent the question
1a. Go to the place where there is the supposed dress code with your bare feet incognito! Barefoot shoes (regular shoes with soles cut out) or barefoot sandals.
1b. Don't go barefoot if you feel there's a requirement for shoes, rather go to other places where there's clearly no shoes required. Like the park or just walking out and about.
(2)Answer the question
Later on as you build more confidence about going barefoot, you could try answering the questions
2a. Answer the question with something funny: I knew I forgot something!
2b. What comes up next after the dress code comment: "So are you saying it's illegal to go barefoot?" If answer is "yes"; my response is "please direct me to the specific law". But in my experience the answer is "well no, but it's just good custom/behavior/etiquette". At that point, I respond with something kind such as "I appreciate that, but....", and explain the health benefits or doctor's advice or something along those lines, and end with "which is why I choose to go barefoot". 🙂
Unfortunately, I don't know of good resources in Greece, but anyone looking at this should please checkout Barefoot is Legal (m.facebook.com/BarefootIsLegal). It's a good resource.

@Messy bare feet Thank you 😀😀 There certainly is two ways of taking the looks and comment; one is to enjoy the reactions and comments like you do as you leave "footprints in the earth", but sometimes it gets to you and it's not so much fun. It pisses me off that people can't get over themselves just mind your own business and everyone do as they please what is so hard about it
@Mr Bill I am sure you will agree that there's a place for a curious question when we see someone doing something that is new to us. But I understand what you mean. Yet until most people are used to folks going barefoot, we are able to prevent or answer the questions we sometimes get, using combinations of some of the techniques we shared. 🙂
Random question! And hopefully not a weird one. But let’s say you go over to someone’s house and they have a “no shoes” rule and you show up already barefoot? Do you have to wash your feet before you go in, or what is the protocol?
@S B Not weird at all. I asked others and the feeling is that there's no protocol at all. Even if there isn't a "no shoes" rule, I would clean/scrape my feet on the door mat before going in (as others would do with shoes). In a "no shoes" rule situation, I would do the same thing and enter if welcomed. Shoes carry stuff for a distance because we are not as aware when in shoes. When barefoot, you feel everything and you naturally "clean/shed" as you feel and go. The question makes me wonder what the protocol is if you arrive at a house with a "no shoes" rule, but your feet stink terribly. Does one wash before going in?
@@barefoothomestead Thanks for the response! I would think one would clean/sanitize prior to entry if someone is real particular about their floors. I was curious as to how many barefooters experience this on a personal level.
@S B I also think if someone is real particular about their floors, they will probably provide what they want you to clean with right at the door. Thanks for the question 🙂
@@barefoothomestead Thanks. I was recently required to remove both shoes and socks at a friend’s house. It felt so nice to go in my bare feet. It makes me want to go barefoot all the time.
@S B How amazing! I hope you do try it. Consider starting slow to get your feet gradually used to going bare. You will enjoy the various surfaces for sure. Please regularly share how it all goes; I am very interested.
