Physical and Chemical Properties of Matter. Mr. Causey discusses physical properties and changes as well as chemical properties and changes. Physical changes result in NO NEW substances and chemical changes result in NEW substances (products) because of a chemical reaction. Tearing a piece of paper is a physical change but burning a piece of paper is a chemical change.

How is taste a chemical property? When I taste sugar or salt, does it change into a different chemical? It seems to me that taste is at best a physical change like dissolving. The molecule or ion triggers a receptor, but the substance you are tasting doesn't chemically change or react, does it?
