Welcome to NZ & CHCH. The large stone building you went to with the central courtyard was the original Canterbury University and later CHCH Girls & Boys high schools. I'm pretty sure Ernest Rutherford studied there before moving to the UK and splitting the atom. He was the father of the Atomic bomb and was mentioned in the recent Oscar winning film Oppenheimer.
Beautiful botanic gardens with a feast of colourful flowers for the eyes 🌷 and certainly an abundance of cafes and eateries to choose from. Thanks for showing me round Christchurch! ❤️
I'm going to be in Christchurch over Easter in 2025 (South Island trip to overall match Bluff oyster season but 'm also a Rugby fan and specifically picked dates to see the Crusaders at home and away in Dunedin.) I had some worries that shops close early, most days and public holidays could be a bit of an issue, but it looks like everything will be fine.
Was in Christchurch 2001. Remember the cathedral the botanic garden and a festival that the cathedral had decorated the floor with natural products like shells and flowers plus. Really wonderful..
It certainly could be. If you wanted to learn about the earthquakes then I'm sure you would be impacted emotionally. There is a quake centre where you can learn about it but I'm not sure if it's any good, some people told us it was overpriced. Best to check the Google Map reviews 😊
I would imagine it to be a great city to spend a few years studying. You will get to have amazing summers exploring the South Island and then in the winter you can go on ski trips to any of the mountains nearby!
the living costs are cheaper in Christchurch than Auckland or Wellington, that includes rental costs and public transport costs. They have quite a few international schools plus the University of Canterbury is well ranked internationally and has lots of other international students
There are two famous Kiwi cricketers who belongs to Christchurch that I know. Richard Hadlee and Brendon McCullum. And my favorite is Hadlee. Do you know about them?
@@cjexplores Richard Hadlee played for New Zealand from the 1970s to the late 1980s and was the first player to take 400 Test wickets. Brendon McCullum is another renowned cricketer from New Zealand, known for his aggressive batting style and exceptional leadership skills. McCullum is considered one of the most successful captains in New Zealand cricket history.
