I lived in Tahoe for years, and experienced several fires. Mostly, we got smoke from fires as far as the Yosemite area. I've been in Reno for five years, and we've had some really bad fire years. It's very hot and dry here, and a spark can travel quickly. A few weeks ago, there was a fire in Verdi (about 10 miles West of Reno). We were stuck on the 80 for over two hours while fire fighters were trying to contain the area. Sadly, living on the West Coast means living with the threat of fires.
