Good review. There's quite a lot of this Islay stuff right now. I like the idea of the possibility of two peaty elements playing a role. High Voltage has already been mentioned and remember liking that one. Cheers. WT
Yes it's an interesting idea. You occasionally see whisky finished in peated Islay quarter casks. I think Wolfburn does that sometimes. Even Pulteney and Grouse dabbled. But usually we're kept in the dark and rarely know for sure where the casks are from. Would be nice to know so we can educate ourselves on the effects. High Voltage is *high* on my list right now. Cheers!
Hi Sid. It's not quite got the same intensity but I think this is a decent alternative to Laphroaig 10CS for those who struggle to get it. Hope this one makes it your way 👍
Another great review, mate. Thanks for putting out so much great content. How does this compare to the Compass Box Peat Monster, which is around 2/3 Caol Ila single malts (between 10 and 15 years) and 1/3 8 yo Laphroaig? Sounds like it would be fairly similar?
Thanks David 🙂 I haven't had Peat Monster in nearly 10yrs. So its perhaps time I revisited it 🙄 I'd say this is a little more complex from what I remember though. I'm really excited to get some more Compass Box expressions in after really enjoying Orchard House.
Great review buddy and good to have the compare between this and the standard. I am quite a low abv fan and possibly would steer to the standard 43% (also a cheapskate) but the Unfiltered does sound banging.
Thanks Jeff. With stuff like this I almost always side with the better presented, higher ABV option but here it's a bit closer. They are subtly different, even when you use water to match the ABV, and both are great 👍
@@WhiskyLock Will have to see which one goes on offer first. Either way won't be the 40% one! The 46% gives you flexibility to have more of a slap if you want it as well. Cheers.
Thank you some much for your time to reply to my comments. I do have a small collection of Macallan Malt whisky, to include two unopened bottles of 35 year old limited edition The Malt (5,000 numbered bottles) with Provenance I purchased them, I believe in December 1996. For me it all Islay. I love the 💨 🔥 💥 👃 🥃 Any recommendations would be appreciated. 🙏 🎃
@@gavinsverdloff4291 If you like the smoky side of Islay then Ardbeg 10 and Port Charlotte would be my recommendations. Also Ledaig 10 for a similar style that's not from Islay. All great value 👍
@@WhiskyLock Thank you once again, I do have Ardbeg 10 & 17 years, I ❤️ Bowmore non chill filtered limited edition 1991 Port Matured for 16 years, natural cask strength 😍 in a word fabulous. 🥃 🙏🎃
Ever thought reviewing this against a 10 YO Ardbeg to better point out who's who? I got quite a lot of peppery notes on the standard Smokehead at 43% back in 2018.
Yeah exactly. That's truly Unfiltered. I think this is still barrier filtered as opposed to what Blackadder do. I expect the flavour experience is probably very similar though. You just don't get the authenticity of bits of cask in your bottle 🤣

Awesome to see this @ 46%, I haven’t seen the in the US yet fingers crossed 🤞. Great review as always
Thanks Brent. I hope it gets to you soon and I really hope it stays as a permanent part of the line up!
Never had Smokehead but looks interesting.
Thanks for the review.
Cheers 🥃
Surprised you haven't tried any yet John. I think you'd like this one. I'm looking forward to trying the rest of the range soon. Thanks for watching 🥃
Thanks for the review, with laph 10 CS being stupidly priced in Australia I’ll be keeping an eye out for the one cheers!

High voltage 🤟🏻
I will have to get around to reviewing that soon 🙂 I'll keep a bit of this to compare 👍
Nice review.
Cheers Gert. Are you tempted by this one?
@@WhiskyLock I think so.
I have just sent a bottle of 🥃 as a gift to my son, with both enjoy Islay Bowmore 12, 🙏🎃
This certainly has lots more flavour than Bowmore 12. A nice step up and a great gift 👍🥃

That's a great idea. A quick A-B comparison of Ardbeg 10 and this would be fun. Maybe throw in a Caol Ila 12 too. Cheers
💀🥃😁
