My first DE razor was a Henson AL13 Mild (original version). Great razor to start my traditional wet shaving journey. I then upgraded to a Karve Overlander - aluminum which I preferred. I gave my Henson along with about 80 Astra SP Green blades to my nephew at Christmas. He was getting ingrown hairs and irritation from his Gillette Fusion cartridge razor. He now loves wet shaving.
Great razor to start anyone's journey into wet shaving Robert. Big step though to the Overlander, but an excellent step up. So glad you encouraged your nephew to transition to wetshaving. Much better for the skin and ingrowing hair issues. Have a great week. Stay smooth and stay safe 👍
Video looks good with the natural lighting. The Henson AL13 V2 has some great upgrades to V1 and the "++" is one of favourite razors to shave with. Don't have any Rex soaps myself. I don't recall having any soap "separate" but have had plenty that have formed "Stearic crystallization" (small white-ish soap crystals) and they still work fine, some have even become crumbly. Nice looking shave Chris👍🤠🤟
Thanks Lorrie, I appreciate it brother. Yes the upgrades have made this already popular razor even more popular. It's a very nice razor and would make a great first razor for anyone transitioning to wet shaving. Even if soaps are really old, they seem to come to life when water is added. Have a great week. Stay smooth and stay safe 👍
Nice shave Chris! I don't have any Rex soaps. If I get one in the future, I'll probably go for 55 or 66. BTW: I have some Razor Emporium soap samples, and their barbershop is pretty nice 👍My last SOTD: RazoRock Game Changer 84 with a Rainbow blade, Omega Hi-Brush synthetic brush, Stirling Mediterranean Man soap and splash (Blackfriday scent last year), and Cremo unscented balm. Have a good one! Steve
Thanks Steve. Yes the 55 is a great Barbershop scent and is my favourite by far out of the 3 they offer. Nice setup yet again brother. Haven't used the Rainbow blades for a while, nice blade for me to. Have an awesome week. Stay smooth and stay safe 👍
Nice shave Chris. I've heard the Henson razors are a love it or hate it kind of thing. My friend who uses it exclusively loves it. Seems like a great idea to have the angle built in like that. Should make it really easy for new shavers to get into the hobby and get consistent results. That said, I do like the ability of the curved-cap razors to manually vary the angle and get a bit more control that way. My SOTD last night was the Rockwell 2C @3, Wilkinson Sword blade (10+ uses, lost count), Stirling Sharp Dressed Man with Rockwell synthetic brush. Finished with RazoRock For New York splash. Have a good one!
Hey buddy. Your absolutely right. It’s a love or hate situation. Great for a beginner with the angle already there for you. But I’m exactly like you, I like the ability to change the angle with my shaves. Especially on the top lip were I like to ride the cap a little. Wow 10 out of a Wilco, awesome. Nice shave you had there. Take it easy buddy. Stay smooth and stay safe 👍
Great shave CB! Weather here in Ottawa, Canada….. Was -26c here yesterday but got “warmer” today. Have you thought about applying moisturizer BEFORE your scent? As a fragrance collector I can tell you it will increase the longevity. Love from 🇨🇦
Many thanks Alan. I appreciate it buddy. WoW that's cold. Yes absolutely, sometimes I do apply moisturiser before aftershave. Usually if I'm going out to a special occasion. Take care in those temps buddy. Have a great week. Stay smooth and stay safe 👍
Hey Chris - good shave! My first DE was a V1 Henson medium, bought about a month after they launched. I still use it fairly regularly, though I have another 50 or so razors now (including a +++ version). It's the perfect beginner razor. No, there's no full stainless steel version. Henson now makes a stainless handle, only sold through Amazon in the US and Canada. Sig Solo recently did a video using the handle and the Yaqi Tile SS head (which is very similar to the Henson head). They do make it in titanium though.
Thanks Keith I appreciate it buddy. I agree Keith, it does make a good starter razor for anyone transitioning to wet shaving. I thought they made a s SS version, maybe they should. I think I should invest in the SS handle. Thanks for the info. Have a great week buddy. Stay smooth and stay safe 👍
Great shave. My SOTD today will be of the KCG razor with a Gillette Minora blade, Catie’s Bubbles ‘95 Liquid Labels soap, Maggards B&W synthetic brush, AV Ice Blue AS, and the Afta balm. The Minora blade I’m trying out is the stainless version, not the platinum version. Nonetheless, I’ll give it a go to see if it works for me. Have a good one!
Thanks Kevin. I appreciate it brother. Nice shave yourself there. Love Catties Bubbles, excellent soaps. The SS version of the Minora are nice blade's for me. Let me know how they are for you. I personally don't think you will be disappointed but YMMV. Have a great week. Stay smooth and stay safe 👍
Hey Chris , how are you. My computer crapped out so I'm using my phone and it doesn't come up as Dave Dart ! Glad you are getting some use out of the Henson. I have had better days .I'm off work again with a Diebtic ulcer on my foot .sadly I'm going to have to sell the bike .not going to be riding anymore. Nice shave Brother! Stay safe
Nice review Chris. I have used all 3 Rex soaps. The best by far is the 1955. The 1966 was too much tangerine and I gave it away. The 1977 is a bit different.
Many thanks Wally. I appreciate it buddy. Yes I agree 100% the 55 is by far the best scent out of the series. I've not tried the 66 personally but people say it's far too citrus. The 77 has to Many controversial opinions for it to be successful on the modern market. Just my personal opinion of course. Have a great week buddy. Stay smooth and stay safe 👍
Nice shave, Chris. Looks like we will have pretty high temperatures (50s to upper 60s Fahrenheit) in the Midwestern US this upcoming week, especially for the end of February/early March. Have a great week and take it easy (if you can). My SOTD is: Razor - Blackland Blackbird Ti with second use Personna Med Prep blade Brush - Paladin Shaving Chief 26mm badger knot Soap/AS - Seaforth 3 Scots
Cheers Steve much appreciated buddy. WoW I love the heat but working in those temps would be unbearable. It's been warm for this time of year in the UK. I usually get snowed in this time of year. Stay highdrated buddy. Have a great week. Stay smooth and stay safe 👍
Nice Sunday shave. I've seen mixed reviews on the Rex soaps. Fortunately, I don't need any new ones 😉 I had wondered if you were delivering for Amazon. In the US Amazon drivers almost always use Amazon vehicles. Is it the same in the UK? Take care and stay safe!
Thanks Bart I appreciate it buddy. Amazon in the UK do have there owns drivers in the gray vans. But they do employ sub contractors with there own van's to cover the volume of parcels and areas to cover. Have a great week buddy. Stay smooth and stay safe 👍
Late to the party on this video Chris. Yes i have all three of the the Rex year sets, 66 is my favourite by a country mile, followed by 55 and then the 77. The 77 is a bit of a punch of a scent. I tend to use various vetiver based EDPs and EDTs with it to blend the fragrance to one i really like. Like Jim, my original 77 soap arrived with terrible seperation in the soap puck which my UK vendor notified Rex of and was duly replaced with a puck that was perfect. The 77 was the only set to have this problem. The 55 and 66 were fine.
Great video Chris. I have all the 3 Rex 55 66 77 I’ve got to say that the 1977 is the worst out of the bunch. My favourite soap is 1955 it’s a cracking scent. I bought the Henson Ti22 the +++ aggressive it’s not aggressive I don’t think so anyway. I just love all the Henson range. Have a great week Atb Paul
Thanks Paul I appreciate it buddy. Absolutely Paul the 55 is the best scent from RSC. Henson are excellent razors. I need the version. Have a great week Paul. Stay smooth and stay safe
Hi Lee. I heard so many different options regarding the scent. I didn't get baby food and milk whatsoever. It was very green for to me. I did enjoy the the scent personally. But I don't think I would have bought it with all the conflicting reviews. Have a great week buddy. Stay smooth and stay safe 👍
@@CBShaves Hey Chris. I don't think my joke came through well. I was born in 1977. I'm not sure about the soap and splash, but that's definitely what the actual year smelled like for me! 😂
And good night brother! After four weeks of being sick with a suspected meniscus tear, I'm going back to work! Basically nothing was done! I have an appointment for an MRI of the knee on October 9th. By then I would be dead three times over if it were something life-threatening! Or I go private and pay €250, which is 1/4 of my gross salary! And let's see how long I work because with every wrong movement my knee can become painful and blocked again! Well then cheers!
I'm sorry for to hear that Robert. It's the same in the UK the NHS is on it's knees, no pun intended. Take it easy brother. Work smart not hard. Take it easy brother. Have a great week. Stay smooth and stay safe 👍
To be honest Jim I didn't go back in the bathroom until I came home from work and didn't smell anything. Mrs B didn't mention any smell like dead roses either. I did like the scent personally. A comment was made that it smelt like baby food. I do think this scent is at the bottom of there scent profile though. Have a great week mate. Stay smooth and stay safe 👍
