hi Mike, good tip! I also ordered this gasket at the same company, however, I haven't had a confirmation ta the order, they don't answer my mail and are offline with the chat...doesn't feel good. I think I'll have to work with RTV to seal the pump.
Hello Mike, i tried to reseal my pump with like spécial anaeroby silicon, but when i closed thé pump, woth résonance torque, thé pump didn t turn anymore. So, what i believe is that thikness of thé seal is part of thé system, making enougth place for thé pièces inside to turn. I have so thé obligation to find thé seal. Can you give thé name of thé company who sell this seal please ? Rgds Vince
Hello , ive noticed that the shaft out of the power steering pump has come out about an inch after removing the drive belt does not look right and now wont go back in ,,, any help please thanks
Agreed. I have a spare knocking about I might just take the time on a damp day to have a poke inside! Interesting nugget regarding chucking the gaskets in a puddle. Working on an old narrow gauge I've seen the engineer do something similar with a bucket of grease and then dry steam.
The old grease trick works well, as the oil in the grease gets absorbed so the gasket becomes softer and then take up any imperfections in the machining of the facesMike
TDI300, bubbles and noise from power steering and overflow from the reservoir (steering worked ok) - ended up replacing pump with L/R pump - seemed ok for a week then appears to be doing same , where to look for issue?
You may be getting air sucked in the system - check all connections. One main issue is the O ring on early pump's intake side - the early pumps had a pipe and flange bolted to the pump and the seal was an O ring - they fail and draw air in - later designs did away with this
Try replacing the O ring - there is no part number available as it is classed as a none serviceable item, but if you take it to a local hydraulic shop, they should match it up for you
I can't believe I'd never heard the tip about putting grease on a dry gasket! I feel like a right plank!
Stick around! More top tips to come!

Be careful as the gasket acts like a shim and if missing will make the pump tight!
Britannica Restorations Ltd good one thanks!!
Hi Mike! Do you have one of those gakets on hand? In case you do what's the thickness of it? Thanks! Abrazo
I don't - I got mine from eBay

Sounds like you will need a new pump - cannot buy parts to fix them
Very interesting ... I always just replace them (courtesy of ACS Tamworth) and I've never taken the time to have a nosey in one. Cheers chap!
The gasket was not the cheapest but it worked - worth having a go for £8!

I replaced it with easygasket was a quick fix but worked
I tried with some sort of quick gasket but when tightening the pump nipped up - seems the gasket is also a shim
Still, if it worked!..

@@BritannicaRestorations thx, is it worth replacing the oring in all the connections, or best one by one

@@BritannicaRestorations intake is the feed from the reservoir ?
Yes - it is the metal pipe bolted to the bottom of the pump
My 300tdi pump looked different. It has an impeller with with approx 12 free floating vanes and is sealed by an o ring, not a gasket
Good day what was the thickness of that gasket?
Do you know I didn't measure it - I will be ordering more in the future so I will let you know
Mike
Britannica Restorations Good day did you manage to measure it?
I have not ordered any as yet as I have no pumps to service - the come from the Czech republic
Mike
sorry it is on my 97 300tdi defender
