Thank you for this great explanation, it helped me out a lot. I watched like ten other tutorials, but I didn't understand any of them. Looks like a really fun game
Valet is Jack (that's the one with letter В for anyone confused), not Joker, otherwise gotta love the old-school deck, and it's in surprisingly good condition too! I never tire of Durak and still play it with my buddies all the time.
I don’t think last remaining cards in the deck are split. It’s more of a first come first server. So if the attacking player needs 4 cards and only 5 left in the deck. He takes 4 and only one card left for the other player
Yup, that's also an option. Mostly, we were discussing and agreeing which method we would rather use but this one is more like a default one since this does not require you to estimate how much more cards left in a draw pile and makes successful defence in the end more rewarding!
“Great, I'm so glad the video helped you understand the Trump card! 😄 Now you're ready to show the Ukrainians what you've got! If you want to practice more or play with others, check us out. Good luck, and may the cards be in your favor 😉”
“It's great that you're learning to play along with your Russian and Lithuanian friends - durak is a game that brings people together! If you want to practise more or play with others, come and join us. I'm sure you'll be a pro in no time! 😄”
Glad to hear that! So, as for the go to graveyard and pick up - it is simple: if the defender repels all the attacks during the attack phase - the cards go to graveyard from the battlefield and in case if at least one the defender cannot or does not want to repel - the defender has to pick up the cards. While there are no cards at the graveyard the first attack cannot exceed 5 cards (5 cards from attackers, the cards that are used to repel do not count). Also, depending on the rules / agreement, any attack may not exceed 6 cards which is the default hand size for the game.
Hi there, Sorry for bothering but would really like your opinion on this! When in the endgame one of the player has only one card, can opponent attack him with 2 or more cards? I just told my partner about the rule that if I only got one card left he cannot attack me with more at the same time. He said it doesn’t make any sense 😅
Good question! So, a person cannot be attacked with a larger amount of cards than they have in hand. If a defender cannot repel the attack and they take the cards they cannot be given more than they have in their hand, however, if you are attacked with two cards when you have only one you simply may choose which card to repel :D In this case the card that was not repelled simply goes back to the attacker's hand and they just displayed it for no reason. At least this is how we did in most of these situations, the game is called 'fool' for a reason!
Thanks! I also always liked the design of these. These were made in 1997, I got them from my grandad, it just says "souvenir play cards" I suppose these may be found on some Ebay like websites, really doubt they are produced nowadays.
The artwork on the fronts comes from the 1911 Romanov ball and is a pretty standard Slavic playing card pattern. Da Brigh makes some with this artwork, English indices for the courts, and 52 cards; you can find them on eBay. I don't know where you're from, but if you're in the US and looking for regional playing cards, the best site to find them is eBay. Amazon and Etsy have pretty much nothing in that way. Another brand that makes regional card decks from around Europe is Piatnik, but outside of Austria, I'm not sure many other countries would use Piatnik cards. I think Fournier also makes some Russian pattern decks, but that's a French brand. Hope this helps.
Good question! In Durak you can either repel a card with a higher card of the same suit or with a trump (unless the attacking side plays a trump, in this case it can only be repelled with a higher trump). And this is why the defender used 10 of hearts (trump) to repel the attack. Not having spades in this case meant either using any trump to beat 10 of spades or take the cards. Using trump 10 of hearts also meant minimizing the risks of getting attacked by additional card, for example, using trump joker would mean the attacker could add any joker card for the attack. There are some additional rules and Durak game styles which I might tell about in the next video :)
Uhm, I just watched lots of movies and played games in English so I just copy the pronunciation. Somehow, I did it intuitively 😅 But still, most people from North America I chat with on the Internet instantly spot my accent xD Thanks!
That depends and can be agreed between players: Either both draw equal amount of cards (e.g. if 6 cards left both draw 3 regardless how much they will have in total, but no more than 6 per hand) Or Both draw until they have equal amount of cards (e.g. 4 cards left, player one has 3 cards, player two has 1 card, so first draws one card, second draws 3 cards, so both have 4 cards in the end). But not always those can be divided equally, so main rule is that the attacker draws first (even if that means drawing a bit more than the defender).
Thank you, my Russian father in-law tried to explain it to me but it left me confused! this helped a lot :)
Haha, you're welcome! :D

nice video! I play durak a bit different tho. The last cards aren't getting split up they way I learned it.
Yeah, card split approach differs and depends on what players agree upon.
You explained it really well, but i have a question: When does the card go to the graveyard and when does the defending player pick up?
