I have tried the V3 and the X5. I liked the V3, but it didn't keep score, was clunky, and missed a lot of shots. I liked the X5, but it had abysmal battery life, and a touch screen that didn't work in the rain, and which either you constantly had to unlock, or which was overly sensitive and picked up stuff whenever you bumped it. I now use the V5, and I love it. It tracks as well as the X5, has decent battery life, is easy to use, and has ditched the touch screen that I hated.
I have ordered Connex to try. I’m not a fan of the X5 (limited battery, dark screen, odd watchband). Three things: One, I sincerely hope that Shot Scope creates an apple watch app and integrates this with Apple Watch in the future. Second: these guys keep harping about carrying around your phone in front/rear pockets: I think it’s important to start thinking of your phone more as a great course map/book that the pros carry with them (but without the green contours). Third: based on average or P-value and yardage to hole, it would wonderful if the shot scope app would then take yardage to recommend your best club (similar to virtual caddie on Garmin watches).
Amazing! I am one of those who never tracked stats and ordered it immediately. Only thing is I use the counter balance weights in the putter grip but I suppose I will have to not now
My GPS app has just doubled in price so after watching this review it's a no-brainer & I'm buying these. I don't wear watches and always use my phone for GPS so it's a perfect solution.
Do you have to take out your phone to tag the shot? I saw that on the ad that you can tag with it just in your pocket. I don’t mind just tapping my phone while in the pocket but having to tell the phone to tag it each time could be a little rough since it’s not in my normal routine
The first company to make scanning a shot seamless without carrying a phone is going to win. I hate using my phone during a round. It’s a massive distraction.
I have an X5 watch for my stats but I still mount my phone on my golf trolley as it’s easier to see the layout of each hole with the yardages to the various hazards. I combine the Watch with the Golfshot App so I have the best of both worlds. The price for the tags in the U.K. is £99, which, considering the exchange rate, would be $127 in the U.S. so here they should be around £78! Not sure why we have to pay more when they are made and produced in Scotland!
Having played the Arccos sensors for three years now.. I really think having to pair each shot is problematic. Arccos has been through some growing pains but I love that once I start playing, I don’t think about pairing clubs at all.
Arccos definitely makes a good hands-free system but the price of the tags and membership adds up pretty quickly. So this CONNEX is a good alternative for anyone who wants to get into tracking at a much lower price point.
Absolutely, this product is crap, who would want to scan every club over and over again before every shot? Fix that and it might make sense if arccos is too expensive.

I recently tried the Golf Pad tags (around ~£90 here) and they work in the same way, I wanted to love them but the tagging was so fiddly and barely worked right, so ended up sending them back. If SS got these working seamlessly and integrated with Apple Watch, and also allowed a live scorecard, I would 100% buy. I don't want a golf watch as well as an Apple Watch...
This is freakin sweet for only $100.. I love how people are acting like you have to play one handed or something, phone in the left swing with the right.. Like guys your smartphone is in your bag, in your pocket or in your cart anyways, simply take the club out with your phone in hand, scan it, put the phone down and hit lol like what is the problem.. I love that it auto counts your hits, score tracking on my apple watch is annoying... love using my phone cuz it's 10 times bigger.. sweet review guys!
I don't understand you people. If you didn't use your phone each shot, you'd have to pull out a range finder. Its not like we're just walking around and eye balling every shot. So if you are going to have to pull a device out every shot anyway, why not do your phone so you can get the aerial shot and drag and drop to get midpoint distances and also collect all the shot data?
A good product, but like all GPS products, it has a flaw. Put your phone in Aircraft mode and watch your course/stats disappear. You might think this is unrealistic, but I've been to a few courses where the cell signal was really bad and quickly found out that without that connection, my GPS product wouldn't work. I had to revert back to my Mark I scoring methods to record the round, then add it to my GPS when I got home. JM2C
I have the previous version with the Shot Scope H4 with the tags. This seems a little better. I also have GolfPad GPS with the tags on my Samsung phone and have had it for years. This doesn't seem like much of an improvement over the GolfPad tags.
I use the Shot Scope H4 now and its great. But its kind of cumbersome to have to transfer data from the device to my phone or computer. And I still have to use my phone for aerial views anyways. I like that the connex skips the middle man. I might have to upgrade soon.
Thanks for the interesting review, it was very informative. I have been an Arccos user for many years. I think it has much better functionality. I know that some are turned off by the subscription cost. I am fortunately grandfathered in with no subscription since I was an early adopter. This will change once I need to get new sensors over time though. In any case, golf has never been the sport of the super-cost-conscious, all aspects of the game are expensive.
I've been doing literally exactly this with Golfpad and the Golfpad Tags for 5 years already... but it also work with Apple Watch/Android Wear and Samsung so you dont have to take your phone out of your pocket and can still see distance/elevation club recommendation. Price is also the same.

When they integrate the Apple Watch I am all in. Having the option to use the phone on a new course is mandatory but on my home course where I regularly play I feel it will be a PIA (literally). Had Arccos but dropped it because $150/yr is insane. Sort of doubt they won't integrate other wearables (Apple Watch, or Andrioid) as it would significantly hurt the X5 sales, at least not until the sales of the X5 become a non-issue for them. With the tech coming in the next Apple Watch golfers are going to get some interesting new choices for course and stat tracking. Never considered the X5 because I have the Apple Watch and all the options it presents.
The shotscope watches I’ve used have been terrible. The x5 was so bad. I switched to the approach s70 and it’s so much better. I really wanted to like shotscope, but hardly any strikes picked up.

I just use roundabout app with the Apple Watch. It would be a lot better if shotscope did what arcoss did and have the sensors to connect to Apple Watch
I use the SwingU app because I can start shit tracking from my Galaxy watch. I also used The Grint but can't start shot tracking from my watch yet. I've thought about buying the Shot Scope H4 so I can leave my phone in the cart with the map displayed.
this is a rough one, if you have to get your phone out for each shot why do you even need the sensors, just use one of the many apps with maps and some even have a distance measure, so just use one of those. if you wanna save money there are cheaper ways to do the same thing, and if you want the convenience there are better products. Looks like they just wanted a piece of the pie and wanted to sell more to their customers. and the good thing about subscriptions is that they want you to renew so they will keep upgrading, there is no incentive for them to upgrade their app or this product once they get your money.
Arccos is still the sensor to beat just because you can keep your phone in your pocket the entire round and still track shots. Granted it comes with the subscription price (it’s easy enough to get them for free with a new club from cobra, ping, etc.)
Not sure about this. The main complaint Arccos had was the fact that people had to carry their phones with them and the battery being drained, losing connection with their Bluetooth speakers (or other devices) either because the devices were competing or you were going out of range. This is dated tech.
I have the V3 watch, I’m hoping that shotscope do an update where the newer and supposedly better tags can be used. I don’t even like taking my phone onto the course, plus as my eyesight weakens I need glasses for reading smaller text. The watch I find is great and misses very few shots as long as you make sure you detect the tag to the watch on set up before you play. Sadly hearing a few negatives on their new watch
The new tags can be used, I have the v3 and x5 but have issues with x5 lately as it is horrible in the rain it just doesn't work. Due to that I went back to v3 and funny enough it works best with the new tags, picked up every shot without having to edit anything for first time, was shocked tbh
@@icon69 thanks for the response , although I guess buying the newer tags is reasonably pricey. Typically V3 misses shots if you fail to get out of bunkers. For the money I think it’s a really good buy

@@icon69 sadly that’s a too common response about the x5, when it works well it’s very good but a lot of glitches in software etc. one of the drawbacks of having he tags is you cannot keep your tee in the end of the club so constantly fumbling in your pocket for tees
You assign each individual tag to a specific club when you first set the system up. Each club gets its own tag and that way the system knows which club you’re using.
Im so happy you made a video on this & id officially never use this. What a waste of money. Thanks for steering me away from this. There is literally no benefit of having these screwed into my clubs lmao 🤣
Sorry, the watch is better. It automatically detects the club you're using without having to tag your club to your phone. If you don't like wearing a watch, you can get the one that you can hook to a belt loop, which even works if you carry it in your pocket. Which is smaller and less intrusive than your phone. Plus having to tag your phone with every shot, gives more for those snobs that complain about slow play to complain about.
Out on this product because of the phone. My phone stays on silent, and in the cart. I don't even want it in my pocket, and I surely don't want to be turning it on and off through the entire round. Also, forgetting to scan a shot would give poor data on the shots surrounding it. Love they tried to make an affordable product, but they need to ditch the phone.
A comparable Garmin setup is gonna cost over $400, or 4 times more than the CONNEX. The Shot Scope data dashboard is also more detailed, and offers a coaching platform that Garmin doesn’t even offer.

The club and tagging process looked so cumbersome. I'd probably remember to tag about 26 of my 117 shots and maybe 3 of the pins.

Interesting product. The putting is the reason I won’t try this. Zero desire to pull out my phone for a two footer.

Shotscope do it.. as long as you got the shotscope watch. My tags work perfectly (and my phones in my locker).

Unfortunately no slope on the GPS distances. Maybe that is something they’ll add in a future update.

Why not use the watch system to connect the tag to the app? I would only want to use the phone for out of position shots, blind holes/shots etc

How does the tag identify the club?

You match the tag to the club ie you screw the tag marked ‘driver’ into the driver, and the tag marked 6 iron into tour 6 iron etc

You both are clearly sponsored by shot scope. Garmin is king and you know that. The watch option sounded pretty good though.
