- Ex-Gong musician Mike Howlett invited Sting and former Eric Burdon and the Animals guitarist Andy Summers to form a project band with him for a Gong reunion, which they named Strontium 90. The drummer Howlett had in mind, Chris Cutler, was unavailable to play, so Sting brought along Stewart Copeland. Strontium 90 recorded several demo tracks at Virtual Earth Studios, and performed at a Gong reunion concert in Paris on 28 May 1977. An album with some of these live and studio tracks (with the first recorded version of "Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic") was released 20 years later in 1997 under the name Strontium 90: Police Academy. The foursome also performed at a London club as "The Elevators" in July 1977
Oh my God ! Be my girl Sally !
One of the most important meetings in rock history
It's like something from some alternate universe! @_@
Look up Clark kent by sting
WoW! This blows me away! Listening to so many riffs and chord progressions later used to such great effect in the Police is incredible! It shows that many of their later tracks were in embryo even at that early stage in their career!
Only just stumbled across this ditty but can definitely hear (what became?) 'Be my girl Sally' right throughout it.
omg. I would have loved this band. Copeland just maniac on these recordings.
Just shows how they were accomplished jazz musicians wearing he camouflage of punks to get signed o
Main riff is Be my girl and some lyrics are from oh my god! How cool is that?
Exactly , you're correct
I noticed that too; the riff is the best part of Be My Girl. It's a very cool riff
Sting taps old ideas for many future songs. It’s fascinating that many Strontium ideas were tapped for The Police and also Last Exit ideas for The Police and Sting’s solo work.
very cool 😎
Nope...Be my girl and Oh my God are both coming from this song. Big difference.
@glennandgem that's right - for me it's a miracle that Sting and Co. were playing this stuff back in 70's, in my opinione they were one step ahead of many fellow musicians.
Strontium 90...one of the nano-particle constituents present in the chemtrails that are raining down on us all today!
Those chemtrails sure do have a massive impact on intelligence.
nice..need visions and new world from this set....
Also, some of the chord progressions are from the beginning of Hole in my Life :)
WOW!!!!
Interesante directo, potente voz de sting
Thanks! Love the PO-LICE!
Neat As!
Like this better than Be My Girl...
Like it. Sounds like a police mix..
prik
@bsmith2059 yup :) you got it fellow Policeologist. Be my Girl and Oh My God.
drummer's pretty good
he's alright :)
isn't it attually called 3 O'clock shit...
Yeap, Stewart Copeland's "Police Diaries" refers to it as 3 O'clock Shit (as written on the setlists at the time)
jerp!
Can't find anything on "Elevators"
what does 3 o clock shot mean?
So, what instrument plays this guy Howlett here???
Apparently he played the bass
It probably refers to having a shot of booze at the end of the night when the bar is closing.
Is Sting using a fretless bass here?
Uh - right, Day Man.
Mike Howlett is playing bass in Strontium 90, as written above, after he left this band, Police borned. He has always played a Fender Precision. Great bass player, Howlett seem to fly on the bass neck giving impression to play a fretless bass.
Two bass players. Mike Howlett was also a bass player. He put Strontium 90 together for a festival in france originally.
Idk, I'm too busy listening to Stewart haha ;)
Sting did not have a fretless bass until late 1978
Funny how later re-record is inferior.
Not at all inferior, just a totally different song. Songs evolve over time.
@@ArmpitStudios The sound quality is shittier. What the heck does recording and mixing quality have to do with artistic decisions and song evolution??
@@NotOrdinaryInGames Again, since it didn't sink in the first time, it's a totally different song. What you're saying is that the recording of song A on album A made in 19xx at studio A is different than the recording of song B on album B made in 19yy in studio B. Nothing is inferior with either.
Wont you be my girl? No? All well. I don't give a damn shit.
what does 3 o clock shot mean?
It's actually called "3 o'clock shit". Written by Sting it was originally titled "Love Is In My Heart" but Stewart renamed it "Three O'clock Shit" as it fit their faux punk style of the time.
