You know thank you for stopping and talking about Larry's father checking out and talking about your own experience with your dad. It's appreciated.

@35:43 Bryant Gumbell spitting FACTS. There IS a difference in playing styles between blacks & whites: whites focus on fundamentals & TEAM play whereas most blacks focus on showy athleticism & individual stats at the expense of the team. Bill Russell is the ONLY exception I can think of to that observation.

It's wild how Larry was different on the court...so was Magic.
They were so alike and different

When Larry said the basketball came easy to him it was crazy because everybody has an area in their life where they Excel despite whatever trauma they're going through. Keep excelling

I’m sorry to hear about your dad ❤️. Personal problems and addictions of any sort is hard battling through and people are seldom the best of parents under these circumstances. I sort of lost mine when I was 11 but he didn’t die, he just opted out of being a part of my life, being a parent. I got him back as an adult but the years he disappeared from me created a lot of problems and self esteem issues, I carried resentment for many years… My mother wasn’t the best parent either so when I had kids I made it my mission to be everything my own parents weren’t. We can’t do anything about other people and our past, we can only make sure we learn from their mistakes and not repeat the cycle. My heart goes out to you for losing your dad at such a critical age of a young boy’s life ❤️.

Baby, I don’t know which is worse. Having a dad that is so addicted that you look like his target or a dad that’s gone. I’ve been trying to figure that out my whole life. My dad was a hard, damaged man. Also from the Korean War. He loved us and we found out after he died how much he had bragged about us and told everyone how amazing we were. He never told me or any of my 5 sisters.
Yeah. It does get emotional. We all have scars. I love ya, kid.

Both of those fine young men felt the weight of the world on their young, strong shoulders from very young ages. I cry when I think of what they saw, the weight of being a leader and knowing when to say “it’s over”. I love those guys.

I lived those years. At the time I had no idea of the greatness I was watching.
We would watch the playoffs and then hate on Larry Bird.
One uncle even went so far as to say the reason he hated Larry Bird was because it made no difference where he shot from, it was going in.
These days, I can NOT get enough Larry Bird.
I believe I still have Magic Johnson McDonalds cups laying around somewhere in my house.

You talk about Larry’s NCAA team as Larry & a bunch of unathletic white guys….first of all that’s not exactly true, there were Black players on the team, but they weren’t of Larry’s caliber. Second, this same team was the ONLY undefeated team to make it to the finals. Magics team was lower in the standings going in. The reason Larry’s team lost was because Michigan was the only team to focus on isolating Larry. Yes, that strategy worked. Larry also didn’t play up to par, for whatever reason….but don’t think that team was crap. You don’t get an undefeated season by being crap. Larry was the biggest reason why they weren’t crap, but bball is still a TEAM sport.
