awe inspiring...i think there is an interview of him with dave and dave said it best, "i couldn't believe someone could play the guitar that beautifully" (not word for word)
I always love seeing the behind-the-scenes stuff with this guy working with DMB. He's the most unassuming guy in the world, then he starts playing and your mind just goes "how is he doing that?"
Unbelievable! I've always loved Tim Reynolds from listening to Dave Matthews at Luther College, but I've never actually seen him perform. Man, this guys crazy! His fingers are like magic!
i don't think anyone can play lead like tim reynolds. just look at what he does to some of the simpler dave matthews tunes like #41. the effect he has during their acoustic shows is breathtaking.
it is amazing to watch this manrip it up, especially on a 12 string, I mean damn!! But if you don't watch the video and just listen to it it is about the same speed as a lot of the other recordings of this song, so I don't know if it is sped up at all, I do know that this guy is amazing!!
Reminds me of attending a George Winston concert and how hushed the crowd was while he was performing and would allow him to extend the notes without interruption with hoots and applause until he was finished. He thanked the audience for doing so.
@Acoustikmuzik420 saw him in o7 with Dave...had no idea.......not the case now awesome..want to see TR3 but guess they dont do the north west of england much, and to be fair who would! keep on rockin Tim man.
@cmsule Nobody likes hate comments. You dont hate Tim Reynalds, just how he coresponds to the rest of DMB. Regardless of what he does there, thats not what was in the video. Your comment had nothing to do with it. Tim Reynalds has talent you wish ypu had, so stop critisizing.
We can't go about comparing Mayer and Reynolds. In pure ability to shred and "wow" and audience, the edge goes to Reynolds. But if we are talking about musicality and songwriting the edge goes to John Mayer. There's a reason that Mayer is so popular in the mainstream.
no I mean composers who have learned and studied theory, and know how to conduct, etc. and I'm talking well into 20th and 21th century like Shostakovich, and Ligeti, who go into A-tonal and Seriliastic approaches. I'm not trying to belittle pop music because I obviously do love rock music, but to me there's two types of music pop, and classical because of how it's writing approach is.
i think cseasons meant to say that he's the best guitarist to come out recently. how many other guitarists have become popular in the last 7 years or so who're actually good?
really? acoustic shows are my favorite, so i'm definitely down to hear some other acoustic guitar players. that's one of the reasons i like dave and tim shows.
To compare Dave to Tim or visa versa is just ludicrous. I don't even consider Timmy a guitarist; more a wizard from another planet that happens to play guitar and also found the spring of music out there in the universe. The spring that other musicians are lucky enough to be splashed by a drop of, this guy gulps from, bottles, bathes in. He lives in that fret board. He's friggin sick sick sick.
If you want to see the ORIGINAL fast picker (and still the best in my opinion), check out John McLauglin. Especially check out the Mahavishnu Orchestra. He's was around at the same time as Jimi and he's still as good now as he was then.
I personally have never seen Al, John or Paco flat pick a 12 string dreadnaugh. You are comparing apples to oranges. Picking or fingerstyle fast runs on a classical/nylon or very low action Ovation is so so so so much easier than flatpicking a 12 string. This was good.
how do u think he got as good as he did? he obviously put his heart and soul into playing the guitar. one doesnt just get to be as good as tim without having passion for what one does. taking into consideration all the time he practiced, I think everything he plays has soul, its just a matter of whether u can relate to it or not.
That is a very good definition...and pretty much what I was thinking. For instance- I hate Chinese and Greek food, but that doesn't mean it's bad. I just dislike it, while others (somehow) enjoy it.
@MrTobbytwirl I disagree, the ability to play "at a breakneck speed" is in many different forms of music. Have you seen a violin player increase the speed in which it take's more skill and practice to play? How about the piano? Do you think the piano doesn't sound beautiful played fast? Just because it's a guitar, doesn't make it less of a instrument! As all music is an art explain to us the proper tempo you "you think music should be played"?
pretty sure you can be inspired to write good music without being on drugs. pretty sure some of the greatest musical minds, and I mean actual classical composers who pushed tonal boundaries where not on pot or lsd when they recreated musical rules.
the tab and chord can be found on the live at luther how to play book from the DMB website... it looks like a drunken chicken got it;s head chopped off and ran across it 100 times... how anyone can play this with out their fingers bursting onto flames is beyond me!
bro im a big fan of keller... hes nowhere near other guitarist sucha as tim reynolds, mckee, emmanuel... heck if you like hippyish music, hes nowhere greenwood from radiohead, or anastasio from phish... he just loops really well... and hes good with theory
What are you king of the nubs? It's a twelve string. VERY COMMON. Do you even do anything besides cook? you don't play guitar do you. don't answer that.
I disagree, soul isnt just one feeling, I know what you mean by what u said but try to be a little more open minded. More often a person tends to say a song has "soul" when you know the background meaning that gives it strong value and something the listener can relate to.
i've heard that carter doesn't want tim playing with them anymore because he's into drugs, and carter is totally against drugs...but thats just what i heard
@georgefras i prefer my DMB live... yes, the old stuff, with Butch killing it on the keys, and not Tim having a seizure on an electric guitar. as a touring member, for the the last few years, TIm has fucking blown. that is fact. his style of play just doesn't mesh with the rest of the band... you can tell. Carter never kills it with Tim like he does with Boyd or Jeff. it just doesn't work. name one song where Tim out performs another member? maaaaaaaybe AATW, w/ the Stairway interpolation....
um chill out i know what the hell a 12 string is. what i mean is i have never seen anybody use double 6 strings on a 12 string guitar, because i don't do that on my 12 string. i just use a regular set of strings for a 12 string guitar. so chill out dude.
Indeed. But Tim HATES loud, drunk, obnoxious crowds. He prefers quiet, respectful, INTIMATE crowds. Of course he likes cheering between songs, but while playing he likes quiet crowds.
The audience in this video is not worthy of this performance (at least, most of them anyways). If they had any respect at all they'd shut up, stop talking, stop yelling things out, and listen.
@georgefras but that's it. almost every other time he plays, his stupid solos take away something from the original song. they just don't feel right. listen to any 41 with Tim, then go listen to 41 with John Mayer. that's how a good guitarist sounds with DMB. shit, go listen to DMB with Trey (i'm sure you have)... if you think the band is benefiting from having Tim on stage every night, i think you're fucking crazy.
awe inspiring...i think there is an interview of him with dave and dave said it best, "i couldn't believe someone could play the guitar that beautifully" (not word for word)
love stream, love tim, love kashmir...THANK YOU!!!
I was that show too. How sick was that performance? Bartender opener was outstanding!!!
This is nuts! Blows me away!
I always love seeing the behind-the-scenes stuff with this guy working with DMB. He's the most unassuming guy in the world, then he starts playing and your mind just goes "how is he doing that?"

dude.... that was absolutely SICK!
One man, one pick, 12 strings, some wood and a whole lot of SICK!
yea man that show was ridiculous... i was so excited when dave and tim came to my college freshman year... ridiculous
it is amazing to watch this manrip it up, especially on a 12 string, I mean damn!! But if you don't watch the video and just listen to it it is about the same speed as a lot of the other recordings of this song, so I don't know if it is sped up at all, I do know that this guy is amazing!!

I love that every time I see Tim play this song, he's playing it faster.
great artist and very gifted
My fingers got sore watching this video, and I'm pretty sure Tim's didn't. Without a doubt, one of the more talented guitarists of our time.
his eyes are closed for most of this.
its crazy
So glad I get to see Tim play live on 420!!!
Greatest guitar player of all time.
Tim is the world's most underrated guitarist.
@Acoustikmuzik420 saw him in o7 with Dave...had no idea.......not the case now awesome..want to see TR3 but guess they dont do the north west of england much, and to be fair who would! keep on rockin Tim man.
Or even when he isn't! Tim is incredible!!
It's not really about how the song sounds, it's really meant to be a display of his guitar prowess...and it succeeds.
God, this video truly almost brought me to tears. That was fucking amazing.
@cmsule Nobody likes hate comments. You dont hate Tim Reynalds, just how he coresponds to the rest of DMB. Regardless of what he does there, thats not what was in the video. Your comment had nothing to do with it. Tim Reynalds has talent you wish ypu had, so stop critisizing.
tim is ridiculous. this is badass
God, I wish Timmy would make more full-length show guest appearances with DMB. What is going on with some of those guys and Tim!
love it

fastest 12string player ever, amazing!
really? acoustic shows are my favorite, so i'm definitely down to hear some other acoustic guitar players. that's one of the reasons i like dave and tim shows.
neal schon and tim reynolds are the most underrated guitarists
To compare Dave to Tim or visa versa is just ludicrous. I don't even consider Timmy a guitarist; more a wizard from another planet that happens to play guitar and also found the spring of music out there in the universe. thats wild... never seen this guy play before
this audience seriously needs to shut up when they are in the presence of tim
I personally have never seen Al, John or Paco flat pick a 12 string dreadnaugh. You are comparing apples to oranges. Picking or fingerstyle fast runs on a classical/nylon or very low action Ovation is so so so so much easier than flatpicking a 12 string. This was good.
yeah it is. hes playing a 12 string and the notes tend to sound that way when they ring out.
how do u think he got as good as he did? he obviously put his heart and soul into playing the guitar. one doesnt just get to be as good as tim without having passion for what one does. taking into consideration all the time he practiced, I think everything he plays has soul, its just a matter of whether u can relate to it or not.
i could think of some names who could put up a good acoustic show as tim reynolds can.
Backstage ass . . . you've got to love Tim and Fluffy.
On a 12 string!!!
I dig that sound!
this was a concert... screaming doesnt help the video but hes not playing for a video hes playin for a crowd... they were probly too quite
That is a very good definition...and pretty much what I was thinking. For instance- I hate Chinese and Greek food, but that doesn't mean it's bad. I just dislike it, while others (somehow) enjoy it.
holy cow!!!
yep. try searching for Andy Mckee , Don Ross, or Erick Turnbull in UA-cam.
this is as smooth as a gravy sandwich
@MrTobbytwirl

Yes, but "linear" is the more comprehensive terms that can be used to describe the net effect, regardless of technique...
would love to watch tim jam with john butler
"As long as it doesn't disturb the horses in the streets."
oh really now?? i never knew that. that's unreal, i could never play a guitar like that haha.
this is unreal i thought it was in fast forward at first he is flying
"he's putting kashmir into stream right now!"
"I KNOW!!"
John Mayer is an excellent guitarist, as well
'Oh my God!'
pretty sure you can be inspired to write good music without being on drugs. pretty sure some of the greatest musical minds, and I mean actual classical composers who pushed tonal boundaries where not on pot or lsd when they recreated musical rules.

timmy for the win
Mayer's a pretty sick guitarist
Audio is off and the people screaming can diaf.... But Tim is awesomesauce.
bro im a big fan of keller... hes nowhere near other guitarist sucha as tim reynolds, mckee, emmanuel... heck if you like hippyish music, hes nowhere greenwood from radiohead, or anastasio from phish... he just loops really well... and hes good with theory
hell yeah...single string picking on a 12string
yah i know right...dragonforce is all keyboard and studio dubbed lol
What are you king of the nubs? It's a twelve string. VERY COMMON. Do you even do anything besides cook? you don't play guitar do you. don't answer that.
no your completely right but paco is a bass player not a guitarist
This song has some great groove. Almost like Primus' "Old Diamondback Sturgeon" but a lot faster and classier.
FUCK YEAH
@dantgood But if I were drunk and at that show I'd probably be saying the something similar...
damn...thats on a 12-string too. sick.
not if you hear me talking about him!
i should have read all the comments before making one of my own... nevermind.
sick comment dude
He's like the new Ravi of America.
its like its not even real...i cant describe
I disagree, soul isnt just one feeling, I know what you mean by what u said but try to be a little more open minded. More often a person tends to say a song has "soul" when you know the background meaning that gives it strong value and something the listener can relate to.
Then I'm happy for him :).
3:18
Shithole 1: "He's putting Kashmir into Stream right now."
Shithole 2: "I know!"
i think Reynolds is caught between MAYER and the guitar gods: Petrucci, Vai, SRV, Clapton, Moreno, etc...
i've heard that carter doesn't want tim playing with them anymore because he's into drugs, and carter is totally against drugs...but thats just what i heard
yeah, the dudes in the audience are a little too "blown away"
well...that wouldn't be "single" string now would it? "linear playing on dual strings." nice...
dave gave up smoking a while ago man
hahahahha so sick
@georgefras i prefer my DMB live... yes, the old stuff, with Butch killing it on the keys, and not Tim having a seizure on an electric guitar. as a touring member, for the the last few years, TIm has fucking blown. that is fact. his style of play just doesn't mesh with the rest of the band... you can tell. Carter never kills it with Tim like he does with Boyd or Jeff. it just doesn't work. name one song where Tim out performs another member? maaaaaaaybe AATW, w/ the Stairway interpolation....
holy shite, slow down before you set fire to that guitar! My goodness.
What the fuck is that? Looks like that shit is in fast forward. Crazy.
um chill out i know what the hell a 12 string is. what i mean is i have never seen anybody use double 6 strings on a 12 string guitar, because i don't do that on my 12 string. i just use a regular set of strings for a 12 string guitar. so chill out dude.
Saw him last night, amazing technical ability but in some ways it just seemed like a lot of riffs with no connecting melody.
He's shredding on a twelve string :| I've never seen John Mayer do that, nor do I think he could... Not the way Tim Reynolds does, anyways.
Tim Reynolds is great... but he's no Andy Mckee or Don Ross either.. (^^,)
why does everyone use the word, "sick!" all the effing time?? geezus kids....find something else
Ya but Dave is just a rhythm player, Tim is much more versatile. But Dave has a lot more then guitar going for him.
@georgefras but that's it. almost every other time he plays, his stupid solos take away something from the original song. they just don't feel right.
listen to any 41 with Tim, then go listen to 41 with John Mayer. that's how a good guitarist sounds with DMB. shit, go listen to DMB with Trey (i'm sure you have)... if you think the band is benefiting from having Tim on stage every night, i think you're fucking crazy.
i just crapped myself
Really good playing obviously, super fast non stop playing gets old fast. I know he's great, but he needs to pace himself.
first of all pot isnt that big of a deal considering there are much worse drugs...and dave gave up smoking pot a while ago
