haha thanks for the comment! I agree, when i seen that i knew it was going to be something different from every other small suv out there and its such a handy tool to use that im glad they are now putting it in most top models in Hyundai.
Absolutely Love this vehicle as shown. Love the look and road manners. I'll primarily be using it as a 2 seater. The back dropps flat for when transporting my art and art supplies. That will also open up the rear speakers from under the privacy cover. I'll definitely be turning off the heads up display and lane keep assist. Great Vehicle! I'm In!
Glad to hear! I honestly LOVE the heads up display and lane keeping assist even just to show off to buddies haha BUT, it is the BEST vehicle I have EVER driven in the snow in a vehicle of this size.
Wow! Just when I was so bored with watching car reviews (for days) this one was a breath of fresh air. Just as cool, interesting and exciting as the car itself 👍
WOW, that is actually the best praise i could ever ask for in a review. Its comments like that which make me want to make this channel blow up and do this full time. Help me out by subscribing and ill post more and more content as i can ( I have to sell them to make a living for now haha)
@@POVCarReviews Hello Jesse.. I have a question, maybe you can answer.. Next day after watching your review, I ran to the local Hyundai feeling I know more about the Kona than the sales rep. But when he told me the consumption of the only trim I am interested in (the 177hp being the only Kona with keyless entry/start which is a must for me) is 10-11 l/100 km (busy city), I had to sadly say goodbye to it 😞. Can you confirm that? Is it really that bad?? Even in eco drive mode? Sorry I can't convert that into North American system but maybe you can. I watched your review again and oh boy. I want this car.... Thank you! Subscribed.
@@SalaKahle I think you ended up with a sales guy who didn't quite know how to break it down for you! Soon as i get a chance here this morning in between some deliveries i will get you the exact info on the fuel Eco for the 1.6L Turbo equipped Kona but i do know that i have clients telling me they get 7.0L-8.5L/100kms on the KONA and some get into the 6.5-6.8L/100kms on a couple hour trip from Vernon to Kamloops BC on the Highway in ECO mode. Honestly it will be one of the best vehicles you'll ever own for fuel economy and you have to realize that with the power the turbo makes and running AWD, it is very hard to beat for fuel economy for what else is out there with the same capabilities. I do let clients of mine take the vehicle out for a day or overnight to see what they average for fuel Eco and i haven't had anyone not buy the KONA strictly because of the fuel economy. Hope this helps and i think you'd love the vehicle if you gave it a try!
really nice in depth review ,,great job covering everything,, im going to buy one the ultimate thunder gray in spring of 2020 ..its been almost 20 since I bought a new Hyundai,,,still own it and still like new never riven in winter,,great vehicles since 2000

@@davidmcgrath8228 Thats awesome to hear David! I am glad Hyundai was able to provide you with a vehicle that Ford could not and i couldn't be happier to hear that! congrats and i hope you enjoy your new KONA for years to come!
I think they’re already available in the US. Am I wrong? Glad you enjoyed the video and thanks so much for taking the time to drop a comment. Much appreciated 💯👍🏼
For this type of vehicle I don't mind the cladding. I would prefer a more built-in screen but this does have the benefit of being in the line of vision more. I'd just use Android Auto for the map, goes dark at night. The 1.6 is much quicker I hear but I'd go for something lower priced. I sat in one and liked it. Cargo space might be a deal breaker, hard to say. I do like the layout, sensible and straightforward.
i award you the most reasonable and insightful comment I've seen in a long time haha the regualr GPS also goes dark at night time too....same time the headlights turn on when left in AUTO mode.
Thanks so much Jessica! Glad i was able to give you some info you found helpful. Please subscribe to the channel if you want to be up to date on more videos i have in the works. Thanks again!
im not much on new cars ..especial the looks of them but kona caught my eye,,,great looking even though they got some styling cues from the jeep Cherokee /front squinty lights and driving lights .but anyhow great all around technology .styling ect ...really love the pop up viewscreen halogen thing ..is the plus ..this car review really sold me ..thankyou great job
Well the biggest compliment is someone telling me they went out and bought a vehicle that i have reviewed and they made their decision because of my review on that vehicle! That's amazing and i am glad i was able to help David!
Awesome Charles! If you live anywhere near Vernon BC Canada, I'd be more then happy to get you an amazing deal on your Tucson. Hey, if your really far away and I cant help you purchase it, let me know if there is anything your stumped on as per the features and i will do my best to make sure i send you a short video explaining the features functions and how & when to use them. If you want to stay up to date on all things Hyundai, please subscribe to my channel as it would be greatly appreciated.
Hyundai doesn't have the Kona 1.6 Turbo here in Namibia and I really really really want one. I compared the features, styling, and power to other SUV's and this one ticks all the boxes for me.
Interesting! I know in other parts of the world you can get some pretty cool diesel options when here in Canada we dont get ANY! We do seem to get a lot of vehicles with turbo options lately however. Not sure why tho, I wish I knew!
We get very few model variations here and all the cool turbo petrol options we miss out but we get a lot of diesel options though. I prefer petrol engines over diesels even though I drive a 2017 Nissan Navara 2.3 Twin Turbo diesel double cab whereas over in North America you guys still have the old model which is kinda odd.
well both really. When the rocks and debris get thrown up, they cause gouges in the paint and therefore they will eventually rust. Dual purpose but the end result of body damage is always rust so i like to think they thought of the end result of said rocks/debris being thrown up into those areas.
Does this car come in both automatic and manual transmission? And at 3:43 you are talking about this new unlocking system, now do you use thumb prints or can anyone do that?
It comes with a manual mode on the auto ( dual shift mode) but no true manual transmission with a clutch. The unlocking system works with the proximity key and they have little black buttons on the side door handles. No fingerprint needed but you will need to have the key on you for this to work and lock or unlock your Kona. Hope this helps!
Thanks for the insights Jesse 👍 I may get the Kona should it hits my country. Awesome efforts and vid! I may have one question though. Does it have manual shifting to higher/lower gear accompanying the matic transmission like Ecosport?
Thanks for the comment! Yes, it has the dual shift mode with the automatic transmission to shift gears like a manual without a clutch. really helpful going down hills or just when you looking for a more engaging drive.
It was initially 5 years in Canada as well no charge but it has since dropped down to 3 years for the 2019 and 2020 models. It truly is an amazing feature and I love how you can lock or unlock your car form basically anywhere in the world. Thanks for the comment and hope you hit the subscribe button!
I mean, we don't use galvanized steel on everything nor does every manufacturer. Honestly, you've never seen a rusty vehicle from the past 10 years? I have seen rusty Mazda's, Nissan's and just about every Make in the past few years. It's a common problem you just might not get in your climate. Remember, not everyone is from where you are from.
glemor joaquin you bet it does. Sorry didn’t show that in the video but most of our Hyundai vehicles have a back up camera. Just some entry levels models still do not but I wouldn’t buy a vehicle without one anymore. Super handy and I’m so used to it know it would be tough to live without.
i agree but then it would kick so many ppl out of the model and just go buy a Tucson. I think you will get used to the size and congrats on the Kona purchase!
I do too. I have the power folding mirrors on my Kia Optima SX Turbo but the only issue is the small, plastic gears inside the mirror that can freeze up in our canadian winters. This makes the mirror useless when this happens and you have to get it repaired. All features don't work in all areas of the world....But personally, I love them for bright lights behind me and not having them bother me once I turn the mirrors in.
Do the Canadian versions get the heated steering wheel. Because the ones I've been looking at ( ultimates) don't have that. I think that would be an amazing feature to have
YES! We get pretty cold in parts of Canada and we do have the heated steering wheel on the Ultimate models and lower trim levels on the KONA. All the way down to the preferred models have it
@@sloth126 oh i bet it gets as nasty there as here! I'm surprised that the USA didn't put this into the Kona! Wonder what other features aren't in this top model?
@@POVCarReviews yeah I'm not too sure. I've been doing my research and this is the car I want. It's just a bummer it doesn't have the steering wheel heater.
@@sloth126 if you wanna fly over to British Columbia ill get you one with the heated steering wheel and a great deal as your American Money will almost buy ya 2 of them up here in Canada hahahaha
Nice looking vehicle & great review... we are actually thinking about getting one of these very soon... one quick question Jesse - for the BLUELINK, does that work on your cellular network or wifi only... the reason I'm asking is that, I was told that this works on WIFI only which would make ZERO sense.. I've done some investigation and from what I can tell, it works on both WIFI & CELLULAR - but seeing how I just found this review, I thought I'd check with you... Awesome looking vehicle!!!
Thanks Phillip! Great questions by the way. The Bluelink Telematics system uses GPS and Cellular towers to operate most functions. You do NOT need or have to be near Wifi for it to work as that would be very limiting. You can do some amazing things like locate your parked car, do a self diagnoses with it, lock and unlock your vehicle for anywhere as well as use it for a remote starter. PLUS, it is free for 5 years here in Canada. Here are a few links that will go more in depth into Bluelink and its features and benefits. --> www.hyundaicanada.com/en/mobile-and-audio/blue-link --> www.autoconnectedcar.com/2016/06/why-youll-want-hyundai-blue-link-connected-car-remote-services-with-alerts/ Hope this helps and thanks for the like!
@@POVCarReviews That's what I thought - awesome news too - thanks so much... hopefully now my dealership can find me a 2019 Ultimate in White, Black or Red somewhere in Canada and ship to NL!
they are the fog lights and will turn on by clicking up the little tab on the inside of your left lever on the steering column, the same one used to turn the light on altogether. Hope this helps!
@@POVCarReviews Just want to say thank you for the review. I did buy the 1.6 t Ultimate trim in Acid Yellow. i know this sound weird but i can't wait til winter in the snow ... hahahha
@@POVCarReviews I also have another question for the Kona, do u know what is the empty button is for below the heated driver sit ? I mean if I have the ultimate model...
i have worked for Hyundai for coming on 3 years now and i have always been taught it turns off between 60km/hr and 65 km./hr. Where are you located? Maybe the American models are different.
i think the dealer might have been misinformed or you might have had a new sales guy. I am certain it is 60km/hr MINIMUM before it goes back to full time AWD.
i am not sure as i live on the west coast of Canada so i am a bit far away to know this. Try Googling a local Illinois Hyundai dealer and they will be able to give you the correct pricing on this vehicle. Wish you all the best!
Nope, the Kona does come with a spare tire 100%. Maybe in the USA it does not but in Canada we get the spare tire not the inflation kit and it is no additional cost whatsoever.
I’m a big Hyundai guy but the interior looks really cheap. Did you notice the wear in the plastic around the back of the shifter? Isn’t this brand new?
Must be the lighting as this is a brand new vehicle and it didn't have any wear marks as i double checked in person haha I think if you were to be inside of one you wouldn't find it cheap at all
Can a six foot guy with a big beer belly fit in it? I might go to a dealership tomorrow to find out. The fact that you can get a turbo on such a small engine is the only reason I'm interested. My second car at age 18 was a 2004 Pontiac Sunfire. Super light car and under powered. I currently drive a Silverado and I'm sick of the lack of turning ability. I only use my truck as a truck like once a year. I have learned that you can rent a truck negating my need for a truck as a home owner.
i think you wouldn't have a problem at all! One of my clients who bought one is of the same stature as you and he loves his Kona! Amazing fuel Eco, nice features and the drivers leg and headroom is actually very good if no one is sitting behind you. Little small in the back seats but if its too cramped try the Tucson for a bit more room. Wishing you the best of luck with your next vehicle purchase.
@@moeanthony9308 Yea, I get that. Been planning on that and all. Still though, It's nice to know. If I keep losing 5 lbs a month for the next year, am I going to fit in this vehicle?
in my opinion its nicer then the Highlander as i don't care much for very large SUVs in this day and age. It will be WAY better on gas with the fuel economy being one of the best there is for a small suv.
Real Canadian Car Reviews thank you. I’m in a caddie ATSV since March from a 2011 toyhigh. Love the caddie but I have a blowup kayak and need space. No room for the bike either
Jesse Nicholson - Real Canadian Car Reviews thank you again for making my purchase easy! Was nice to actually talk to a salesman that knew what he was talking about and could answer all my questions plus some! I have to say....still LOVING my Kona!!
Marvin Ramirez you bet. I work for Vernon Hyundai in the Okanagan Valley British Columbia. We are one of the top rated Hyundai dealerships in all of Canada.
It has a USB port and a AUX input right in front of the shifter! Sorry i thought i had mentioned it but you can also use Bluetooth wireless audio on the Konas well. Plus your smartphone in for Android Auto or Apple Car Play as well and then you have access to your music library and podcasts.
Just like every manufacturer, they restrict certain colors for certain trim levels. The real reason I am not sure of but I bet it has a bit to do with making the people who buy the fully loaded top models feel "special" in that only certain people will be able to afford certain colors. I wish they had every color for every vehicle across the line up but that would make the production costs higher and they would have to pass it along to the consumers which would shoot them in the foot as well.
U need put some paper things down I was going to buy this i would be mad and probably goto a different one that was covered U getting mud dirt in the carpet
It was a demo, made to be driven daily by service customers and managers, We always detail them before we sell them. If you dont want ANY dirt on a vehicle, buy a model in the showroom ;)
@@shotgunz124 the ppl i sold it to were fine as we DETAIL every car before we sell them. Every car gets test driven so no car will be found PERFECT. EVER.....
Kaido D just getting started and don’t have the equipment yet. Plus no other salesmen wants to help me gain views for my channel if it doesn’t help them. I’ll get some drives in soon! Thanks for the view tho!
it is also to prevent corrosion on trouble areas where on other vehicles you typically see rust build up. I'm an automotive painter by trade and i have seen this in numerous other vehicles without the cladding. I think it will become more and more standard.
it most certainly does have a great engine! The 1.6L Turbo GDi8 4cly puts out 175HP and matched with the 7 speed DCT tranny, it has lighting quick shifts.....i think if you jumped in it you'd be very impressed!
This is an entry level crossover. Even in the top trim, it is not meant to be super luxurious. Step into the new Santa Fe or the Palisade for better, softer materials. You'd be surprised with the level of quality in our higher end models and Genesis line up.

WHAT ABOUT A TRIP OUT HERE TO THE SUNNY OKANAGAN!? HAHA would love to show you one of these as i have all 3 options on the lot right now.
@@POVCarReviews LOL..
I wish, that would be an awesome trip... well, at least I know there are some here in Canada!
Thanks Jesse!!!
Kona is fantastic car
I sure think so too! Do you own one yourself Primzz? Thanks for the comment and hope you hit the subscribe button as well!
@@POVCarReviews I have Kia Ceed, my cousin has Kona and I would rather have it, than Ceed..
hi - how do you turn on the high lower beams the one on the bottom of the bumber lisp - i cant find the way to turn it on -- lol
they are the fog lights and will turn on by clicking up the little tab on the inside of your left lever on the steering column, the same one used to turn the light on altogether. Hope this helps!
@@POVCarReviews thx got it 💪🤙
@@miguelcintron6595 Glad to help Brutha!
@@POVCarReviews really good car so far , i got the ultimate turbo and is a little rocket 💪
Just want to know how is the gas milage ? def think the 1.6 T Ultimate trim
its really good for a powerful little turbo! Last one i drove for a few days was averaging about 6.3L/100kms in eco mode
@@POVCarReviews Just want to say thank you for the review. I did buy the 1.6 t Ultimate trim in Acid Yellow. i know this sound weird but i can't wait til winter in the snow ... hahahha
@@michaelfotoshop its so much fun in the snow so im with you on that one haha thanks again for checking it out and glad i could help out!
I dont see many of the kona here in Toronto. I think the mileage is great for sure. Hope you get to make a review for the EV version
@@POVCarReviews I also have another question for the Kona, do u know what is the empty button is for below the heated driver sit ? I mean if I have the ultimate model...
Great review!
Thanks Martin! Much appreciated !
Awesome design
ʻUmar ibn al-Khaṭṭāb Malaysia thanks for the view ! Can I get a subscribe as well!?🙌🏼🙌🏼
So it is 65km/h when the awd turns itself off.. i thought it was 40km/h, as what the dealer told me.
i have worked for Hyundai for coming on 3 years now and i have always been taught it turns off between 60km/hr and 65 km./hr. Where are you located? Maybe the American models are different.
@@POVCarReviews I'm from alberta, canada ..also I don't think it's just 40, I'm hoping its 65 as what you said.😁
i think the dealer might have been misinformed
or you might have had a new sales guy. I am certain it is 60km/hr MINIMUM before it goes back to full time AWD.
Nice review
Marvin Ramirez thank you Marvin! I really appreciate the feedback and thanks again for watching ! More videos are on the way.
How much is Hyundai KONA being sold ai illinois USA?
i am not sure as i live on the west coast of Canada so i am a bit far away to know this. Try Googling a local Illinois Hyundai dealer and they will be able to give you the correct pricing on this vehicle. Wish you all the best!
Just for 1 dorra
so the kona doesn't come with the spare that's an extra cost they typical come with the tire repair kit
Nope, the Kona does come with a spare tire 100%. Maybe in the USA it does not but in Canada we get the spare tire not the inflation kit and it is no additional cost whatsoever.
@@POVCarReviews US here - mine came with a spare
waiting for mine😍😍😍
How is the new KONA!? Do you love it?
I’m a big Hyundai guy but the interior looks really cheap. Did you notice the wear in the plastic around the back of the shifter? Isn’t this brand new?
Must be the lighting as this is a brand new vehicle and it didn't have any wear marks as i double checked in person haha I think if you were to be inside of one you wouldn't find it cheap at all
That looks like the plastic film that comes from the factory. It just needs to be peeled off, no worries
Wishing you the best of luck with your next vehicle purchase.
now why would you wanna go and do that!?
@@POVCarReviews Don't much care for the passengers. I'm 6 foot tall. My concern is if my fat ass can fit int he driver's seat.
@@moeanthony9308 Yea, I get that. Been planning on that and all. Still though, It's nice to know. If I keep losing 5 lbs a month for the next year, am I going to fit in this vehicle?
i don't think you'd have a problem fitting in the Kona at all!
Is this a nice as a highlander and better on gas.
in my opinion its nicer then the Highlander as i don't care much for very large SUVs in this day and age.
@@sandmancat294 try the tucson as it will be very similar in feel and features but it will be bigger for the kayak and the bike.
Wow! Are you available today to look at this in person? where are you located and can I be there at 4 today?
MEGAN ORTON you bet Megan! Give me a shout at Vernon Hyundai and we can set up the appointment ! See ya soon!
Thanks for stopping in Megan! I hope you enjoy your new Kona as much as you did when we went for that extended test drive ;)
Ray Lat a really good one!
Thanks again for your business Megan! Hope your enjoying the Kona and thanks again for working with myself and Vernon Hyundai!
Jesse Nicholson - Real Canadian Car Reviews thank you again for making my purchase easy! Was nice to actually talk to a salesman that knew what he was talking about and could answer all my questions plus some! I have to say....still LOVING my Kona!!
Is it Canadian dealership?
Marvin Ramirez you bet. I work for Vernon Hyundai in the Okanagan Valley British Columbia. We are one of the top rated Hyundai dealerships in all of Canada.
by Hyundai Canada and the people who have done business with us.
No SD, USB MP3 option? Seriously I'm planning to loan one next month.
It has a USB port and a AUX input right in front of the shifter! Sorry i thought i had mentioned it but you can also use Bluetooth wireless audio on the Konas well. Plus your smartphone in for Android Auto or Apple Car Play as well and then you have access to your music library and podcasts.
@@POVCarReviews Thank!
fuck Hyunda is killing it
hells yeah they are!
Why in the World they don't offer the acid yellow in all trims , are they in the business of not selling cars ?
Just like every manufacturer, they restrict certain colors for certain trim levels. The real reason I am not sure of but I bet it has a bit to do with making the people who buy the fully loaded top models feel "special" in that only certain people will be able to afford certain colors. I wish they had every color for every vehicle across the line up but that would make the production costs higher and they would have to pass it along to the consumers which would shoot them in the foot as well.
@@POVCarReviews Well , The only reason why I didn't buy the car was the abcence of green in the base model .
I have this car
what model of Kona do you have?
I can hear you ^^^^
Nice ca😘😘😘
Chandan Gupta thank you! Have you ever had a chance to drive one Chandan?
U need put some paper things down I was going to buy this i would be mad and probably goto a different one that was covered U getting mud dirt in the carpet
It was a demo, made to be driven daily by service customers and managers, We always detail them before we sell them. If you dont want ANY dirt on a vehicle, buy a model in the showroom ;)
@@POVCarReviews no one wants all that crap in there brand new car come on show room my butt
@@shotgunz124 the ppl i sold it to were fine as we DETAIL every car before we sell them. Every car gets test driven so no car will be found PERFECT. EVER.....
Can u buy me one,?
I can sure sell you one ! Email me at jnicholson@vernonhyundai.com
outside is excellent inside is disappointing
we cant win em all i guess haha thanks for the comment Mickey! Trust me they look better in person.
@@POVCarReviews I thought so
Review without test drive are no good 👎😩
Kaido D just getting started and don’t have the equipment yet. Plus no other salesmen wants to help me gain views for my channel if it doesn’t help them. I’ll get some drives in soon! Thanks for the view tho!
Loos like a rally car
i heard Hyundai will be using it for some rally events in the coming years. Would be cool to see a tricked out version of the Kona
What will that beauty look like when those plastic cladding fade?
Armorol
just wash as usual. it will hold up and hit it with some trim shine to bring it back to nice and black
The plastic is a design fad, nothing else.
it is also to prevent corrosion on trouble areas where on other vehicles you typically see rust build up. I'm an automotive painter by trade and i have seen this in numerous other vehicles without the cladding. I think it will become more and more standard.
This car has no engine its all about lcd screen reviews
it most certainly does have a great engine! The 1.6L Turbo GDi8 4cly puts out 175HP and matched with the 7 speed DCT tranny, it has lighting quick shifts.....i think if you jumped in it you'd be very impressed!
Nice exterior, bad interior. Way too much plastic I would feel depressed in this plastic bullsht
This is an entry level crossover. Even in the top trim, it is not meant to be super luxurious. Step into the new Santa Fe or the Palisade for better, softer materials. You'd be surprised with the level of quality in our higher end models and Genesis line up.
