2018 Hyundai Kona Ultimate AWD Crossover Review
Вставка
- Опубліковано 9 лют 2025
- Hyundai's new Kona Crossover is facing off against a huge array of competition. Does this one have the chops to be a top pick for on and off-road driving -- like a proper crossover -- or should the Kona stay exclusively in town?

I drive a 2020 Hyundai Santa Fe 2.0T AWD.
The Hyundai htrac AWD performance is excellent in snow
Keep up on your tires and traction is even better. The mode generates
More power to wheels vs 50% in front and 30% in rears. Long as the lock mode is activated you’ll then have 50%power in rears and front evenly.
I drive 60mph through and Hyundai AWD handles good.
Top is DRLs, below those are the headlights. Hyundai does this on all SUV now.
AWD lock works like a 4x4 and always active then being in auto mode.
Auto mode kicks in when traction is needed in milliseconds but your only then using less power to the wheels in rears which again 30% power and 50% power on front wheels see the difference.
That’s why I can travel fast through because it’s even power to front wheels at 50% when locked and 50% in rear wheels.
Better traction when you got more power to all 4 wheels👍🏽👍🏽
It’s going on 2023 since the last time I bought my Hyundai AWD brand new
Those are not the headlights, dude. They are down below. Geez.
Dude you can the lock the awd system into front rear power split at low speed... why dont you read the manual for a second before attempting to inform people
I've been looking at these videos for years..have a 2000 Ranger that won't stop running! Maybe will get a Kona
Good car (not the Ranger, I dont' know about it) but wished they also gave the new Soul the same platform.
I have one and I love it
You lost with not knowing the headlights.
Bad review, misleading information----headlights and locking diff both incorrect
i really wish reviewers would give us a little more info on such little things as rear view and side view.
Yea YOUR ARE RIGHT. SOME OF THE REAR HEADREST FOLD OR DROP DOWN FOR BETTER VISIBILITY. With HYUNDAIs SAFETY GEAR ON BOARD THOUGH TAKES SOME OF THE CONCERNS OFF LOOKING IN THE REAR....SOME.
at up 40km/hour car can lock differentials with button. it Says in manual so read it before review it. info about headlights is also wrong!!! have you even try to read the manual?
does it has a front parking sensors?
Well first of all, I would never go that fast on a gravel road 10:31 . Some people do, but I just don't want my car to shake that much, already lost some bolts in a lifetime 😅
Kinda seems like you weren't impressed enough by the fun to actually comment whether or not it was fun to drive- or I missed it. Either way it's not standing out is it?
QUESTION: great review and I am really interested in it as our next vehicle. I would like to know if there is the option of a heated steering wheel, does it have that option? That would make it perfect! thanks
The way you described the socalled lock makes me think that its meant as more of a preventive measure than get out of already being really stuck. Personally I think that color is abit ugly. But I'm guessing it will fit somebodies needs.
Thank you so very much! Tonight I have money down on both the Kona and the Crosstrek.... I am 68 with the usual wear and tear! AND A LOT MORE ! I will go with the Subaru although I have been to Kona 50 times! Going with the Cool Grey .... great color! Randy and Linda .... Boulder, CO
The Subaru will cost more for repairs/maintenance.
great review!
Thank you for the details about the headlights, glare would have been a problem
Thank you for the review!! tell us you experience with the that dual transmission, how did it behave in city traffic situations? would you recommend it?
I luv my Hyundai Santa Fe turbo but my next vehicle I want is a Genesis GV80
"Buuut - because we're in the middle of the forrest, we have no connectivity". So much for satellite coverage. Yeah right.
You got me at the Maverick reference of Top Gun. 8:50 Ha! :-)
Who was Maverick?
Tom Cruise
Uh.. are you challenged? Those aren't headlights.
하이브리드 얼휠드라이브 트림이 추가되야한다.그러면 최고의 완전한 차가 된다.
THIS GUY tells it LIKE IT IS for THE 2018 HYUNDAI KONA, I LIKE THIS GUY. He TEST DROVE THE KONA on DRY AND GRAVEL ROADS and HIS IMPRESSIONS ARE SPOT ON. I think the 18 inch wheels are good for stability and bite but, between the 18s and the suspensions it makes for a somewhat stiffer suspension. I have the LIMITED so I HAVE THE 18s. CARGO ROOM is NOT MUCH but, i am a EMPTY NESTER. For a little over 25,000 I CHOOSE the LIMITED for a BETTER EQUIPTED PACKAGE,BUT, IWOULD NOT GO ABOVE THE LIMITED AND GET THE ULTIMITED. ALL IN ALL THE LIMITED for ME is GOOD ENOUGH.
One MORE THING I MISPELLED ULTIMATE BUT, THE HEADLIGHTS ARE IN THE MIDDLE. At the TOP ARE the DRLs.
I bought the Ultimate for the 0-100kmph and its passing capabilities. On barely two lane blacktop and having to pass farm machinery, you want your arse in the other lane for little time as possible and the Kona Ultimate delivers. I live in rural Saskatchewan so I see gravel roads like few Americans can imagine too, even those in Alaska. We get frost heaves and washouts that change the road itself, year to year, not more than 4km from my house. So far the Kona has handled fresh gravel, dirt and cutting across a stubble field without problems. Did have to hit the bypass (locking button) which disables the traction control and forces a 50/50 up to 40kmph but that's to be expected with the tires which are NOT for dirt nor high speed handling on paved roads but a fairly crappy compromise. Be nice if Hyundai would give the buyer a choice. I'd much rather Nokian WR G4's and I'd pay the diff also if I have to accept the Kona with an all season tire. My winter tires for the Kona are Bridgestone Blizzaks and I'll be deciding the rims and tires for spring/summer/fall later. Overall being the most fun of the 5 small SUV I was picking from was the decider. Wife and I are also empty nest folks but not old enough where looks trump a comfortable but spirited drive which the video here didn't bother addressing.
Just brought a 2019 limited, AWD, has everything the ultimate does except navigation which with car play and Android auto nav is not needed, i brought for 23 year old daughter and I enjoy driving it hoping she loves it
