    Thank you for putting that bike back to it's original condition. I have a soft spot for old sportbikes, my first was a "86 GSX-R750. Keep up the good videos and articles.

    I've never understood why people cut the rear guard. My 1999 VFR had been butchered in a similar way. It looks rubbish to be honest so I got a used one and fitted it.

      Practical Enthusiast I can't wait until you do a review on the 93 CBR900RR. I will most definitely be on the lookout for it. It brought back a lot of memories seeing that bike. That was the second bike I owned. My first was a 1984 Honda VF1000R Interceptor. What do you think would be chances you could find one of those?

    Love the video and the unpimping of the 900rr, looks beautiful, great job! I did the same with a newer CBR, 2007, I’ve got to say looking at its original factory setting is beautiful and satisfying for having saved the bike.

    Thanks for the great video. I'm not a purist. I like that race look with appropriately done mods not going too far. But I appreciate those who want all stock. I had a honed out 89' FZR600 in college my buddy raced at Sear's Point. After I bought it I hopped on the freeway and caught up to a late 80s Ninja 600 and a 900RR who were cruising together. Never seen a 900 before. Gorgeous bike. I dropped a couple gears and took off to tempt them. Never saw the Ninja again. The 900?? He rolled right up on me quick and at 100mph, he took off like I was standing still. That blew my mind. Never seen anything like that. The 900 has always been in the back of my head. This is definitely my next bike to enjoy riding and wrench on.

    this is exactly what I do every time I buy a used bike. I remove every aftermarket mod and throw it directly in the garbage because it's almost always not worth the trouble to sell. I always start out with a perfectly mint stock bike and any mod that I do do, is usually an OEM upgrade/retrofit from another model by the same manufacture. ie. I put an H2 slipper clutch on my current Kawasaki Z1000, and shock, forks and calipers from a European spec Z1000R (which we never got in the states)

    the late 80s and early 90s was the first golden age for sport bikes. I believe were possibly living the the second golden age with all this new tech being implemented and the 'gentleman's agreement' basically being tossed out. but that era of sport bikes have so much soul. cool designs, colors and graphics. I would love to own an early 90s GSXR some day

    I was so lucky to find original uncut fender for only 20 dollars here in Croatia 😁 I don't see the point of cutting the fender on old bike like 900RR, they all have huge rear ends with or without fender...
    Edit: I see now that US models have huge license plate light... EU models are much discreet

    Nice job PE!! Well done. I'm with you... I was fortunate enough to fine a unicorn! A 98 VTR1000 Super Hawk. All original and unmolested. Original everything with only 5200 miles . Picked it up from an older retirement engineer who hardly ever rode it.. Like your double RR, the VTR is in beautiful condition and I plan on leaving it original. Thanks for posting!!

    You probably got the (2) best colors of the 900RRs in my opinion -- back in the 90s when they first came out I remember going to the dealership in awe of these bikes . The sales reps treated me as if I wasn't gonna buy not to touch or get too close -- pathetic actually now that I think about it.
    Every guy l knew that had one crashed it cuz of the power to weight ratio.

    Popular opinion or not, I always cringe at the butcher jobs done on beautiful bikes. I've had to un-butcher an number of them myself. The saddest part is that this aberration is still popular today.

      The fender's part number is 80100-MW0-000 but as far as I can tell, nowhere has it in stock. Unfortunately, you are at the mercy of what comes up for sale second-hand on sites like eBay. Thanks for watching!

    I’m about to start the same project, is there a trick to remove the side panel plastics from the tabs on the tail light surround plastic?

    • @PracticalEnthusiast
      @PracticalEnthusiast  5 років тому

      I shot some silicone spray in the in between the two panels to help the tabs unlock. Applying heat to the area (think hair dryer) will certainly help the plastic flex a bit more. You slowly rotate the side panels upward to free them from the tail light surround tabs. In the end, you may still end up cracking the tabs on the tail light surround. It's all just very fragile plastic.

    Hey if there is any chance I could get advice for putting in a 919 engine into a 93 cbr900rr. It'd not what I wanted to do buy unfortunately the shop couldn't get my original motor fixed and so they rebuilt a 919 motor for me.

    • @PracticalEnthusiast
      @PracticalEnthusiast  2 роки тому

      Are you talking a CBR900RR 919 engine? If so, that will mount up fine but there will be a couple of electrical challenges to overcome since the 919 CBR engine has a throttle position switch. You'll need the wiring harness and CDI from the 919. Coolant hoses are a little different too between the two as well. Definitely doable, but not exactly a direct swap.

    • @grahamschnatter8364
      @grahamschnatter8364 2 роки тому

      @@PracticalEnthusiastyes it is a 900r 919 engine. so I need the wiring harness from a 1996-99 and CDI. Will I need a new radiator or do they make adaptors for the hoses. And will the dash and lights hookup to the new harness with out modification? The body is still a 93 900rr.
