This scripture you quoted has a "context" that you may be failing to understand. It does not contradict with what Dr. Damina is saying. The context of the verse you quoted is about "encouraging people" to fulfil a command Jesus gave "Love thy neighbor as you love yourself" or in other words to "pursue and exhibit the nature of love". The problem is that when we read scripture we simply read literally and fail to fully understand the context of the scripture. Sometimes context is understood better when you read scripture in both "forward direction" and in "reverse direction". What Dr. Damina is saying is that the "starting point" to defining "who is God" is not "love", because love is simply the attribute and nature of God. You see, it does not contradict that scripture. Nowhere in the Bible that it is written that God is Wisdom, God is righteousness, God is light, God is Spirit etc. But the Bible says God is Love. So we stay with the written word. Because you help someone to understand something doesn't make you his teacher. We are co-labours with Christ it is given to men to teach and the holySpirit to give understanding. It is given to men to preach and the holySpirit to give conviction. It given to men to pray while the holySpirit help them pray in line with the will of the father.
The holySpirit is our helper. He will show us things. When the holyspirit reveals something to you he is not teaching you but showing you. Paul says study to show yourself approved.
When jesus was on earth he was the teacher. He handed the ministry of teaching to men and he gave them the gift of teaching which we get through the person of the holySpirit. The Job of the holySpirit is to help the believer teach.

What Dr. Damina is saying is that the "starting point" to defining "who is God" is not "love", because love is simply the attribute and nature of God. In other words God is far more than just love and is not limited by the attribute of love only. You see, it does not contradict scripture.

You have to understand and familiarize yourself with the language the writers used before you can interpret the scriptures well, because the writers did not sit in their house and got revelation only to write the scriptures, they also did a very thorough archaeological research work before they gave us the piece of work which we have today as Bible. So before you say there was error, you have to understand the language they used. The writers wrote it as a story, that is why you can find all the elements of story telling. The setting, character, plot, etc. it mostly written in figurative language. Except you are familiar with figurative languages you can’t fully and correctly interpret the Bible. This is what most of the preachers are lacking - figurative expressions, and that is the reason of the misinterpretation and the conflict that is going.
