I want to add on a different take to Lily Singh's comment about how we need to stop telling women that the most important thing is to get married. I agree with her 100%, it limits women, marriage is not the most important thing for a woman, and it promotes unhealthy thinking. But as an unmarried 19 year old guy, I'm genuinely curious:
What do you think is harder, maintaining a healthy marriage, or maintaining an A average in the four years of a biochemistry degree?
I don't know the answer, I'm just curious. Maybe I'll do both of those things one day :)
Getting married and maintaining a healthy loving relationship are two different things.
Obviously maintaining a healthy relationship/marriage requires work and commitment, I would never want to undermine the importance of it, but to raise a child and tell (usually) her, that a marriage is the most important thing she will do, it undermines the importance of other jobs and roles. One is not necessarily harder or more important than the other, if done well both require alot of work. It's more about young girls being encouraged to do whichever makes them happiest.
