Interesting finally hearing this. For the great singer that she is, you can hear that the recording is still manually "tuned" in post production (before autotune) and you can hear edits. The glissando at 0:17 sounds like a looped short waveform and 0:44 is also probably corrected electronically, as the tone changes in distinct steps as if played on a sampling keyboard.

What Michel did is neither authentic, nor original or creative in any sense of the word 'sampling'. Sampling comes from DSP and digital audio conventions of a certain count of numeric data in buffers from an input source, also Nyquist theorem and other such jargon to denote the same numeric and mathematical concepts. To sample something in more generic or Hip Hop culture friendly sense, also a jargon now, is the act of taking an extract from a preexisting recording and produce your own track with that sample as ideally a one shot motif or a short audio played back to an entirely different sounding song. Michel Cretu cannot claim sampling if the ENTIRE ORIGINAL song is the NEW SONG as well, preserving both song structure and performance integrity. If I take the 'Star Spangled Banner' and remix the entire song preserving both song structure and the vocal performance and market it as 'Fart Fangled Spanner (Original Works)' with bagpipes and mandolin, how in the world is that MY song (added fart noises and flushing audio effect with reverb)?
What Michel did with taking existing rock band recording from their popular albums and 'sample' a drum intro or a drum loop or a particular vocal sample fx at the outro of the song or the FX intro from Vangelis's albums can be considered to some degree of sampling, where he takes the short samples as isolated extracts and builds an entirely new audio work with it containing those sampled elements. In the case of Carly's Song, Eyes of Truth and Return to Innocence, his massive hits by all measure, they are 100 percent authentic Mongolian Indigenious music and Taiwanese Aboriginal music of their culture and ancestry (some are even national songs). We as 'erstwhile' lifelong (for me till the early 2000's only, I have stopped listening to his poop shit works from Enigma 4 onwards, back then I was in high school so I can blame it on teen hormones) fans this comes across as very dishonest of him actually. He is an opportunist and a very unoriginal kind of music producer who took this pop music mish mash direction as a last resort from his failing career in a personal sense, possibly mid life crisis or imposter syndrome or both. When you consider 'authentic' geniuses like John Coltrane, Hildegard von Bingen, Allan Holdsworth or even truly gifted composers like Sir Karl Jenkins with his project Adiemus and Mark Snow with his trademark audio style, these folks have created an entire language of their own with indelible signature and contribution. Michel is nowhere in their league. Genius grows from within and does not wither out or come as a last resort. Genius starts early and blossoms in due time with maturity and experience and wisdom and craft. Allan bypassed traditional jazz training to become the one and only Allan Holdsworth with his truly engimatic guitar mastery that outsmart both classical and jazz motifs, John Coltrane's wall of sound invention directly inspiring Allan to pursue his own direction without asking for permissions; Hildegard's unique vocal musings long before the invention of Classical and Jazz harmony is a timeless gift that matured as a skill and a communal service with her growing years. This is a pattern, they all start somewhere and it culminates to their absolute brilliance as they achieve their destinies and mastery of their craft. Allan defined his sound, never went searching for it! Coltrane studied all kinds of music haveing the intellectual temerity to make music theory like putty in his hands. They imbibe and embody that information and process it to make it as something of a universal synthesis. Michel just copied and then he pasted. Which any kid with Garageband and FL Studio can do in two hours of their glorious time inbetween taking a poop and fucking their girlfriends for a healthy afternoon mutual orgasm and renewed vigor for the evening fuck session. Michel has done nothing authentic in that sense with Enigma. No wonder he always talks about finding the next 'idea'. By that he actually means the 'next idea of someone whom to steal from'. It is a genuine problem because of the internet, information is accessible and research can be done by sound prints and Shazam etc...difficult to steal when everyone is watching right Michel?
To summarize Michel is no doubt resourceful and business like in his musical affairs, but he is a creative charlatan and abuses the idea of sampling, most definitely 'repurposeing it' as stealing, ENTIRE SONGS, mostly for the exotic effect to Western Ears, unless you are born in Taiwan or Mongolia, or India. His brand of 'Enigmaticness' involves, use of audio FX and modulation with drum/synth pad and bass grooves over Ethnic and religious songs from earlier recordings and compositions and arguably start the New Age toy factory of wellness industry fakeness in the guise of a project idea that exploits the gullibility of its intended audience and also the original artists who never got credited for their composition or performance or possibly never got paid for any of this. All the while Andru Donalds must have sung Return to Innocence in live shows and Carly's Song must have been playing over a sampler or a live vocalist to mimic the vocal musings.
There is another angle to this, for all of us who used to listen to his albums during our childhoods, it is like having an uncle who used to tell us stories that we used to love to listen to and be eager for the next 'Uncle's Tea Time story session' every weekend or so. And stories he told for sure, waxing and waning and claiming it was all from his own. Until we grow older to find all the stories he ever told in the Ancient History section in the Library of Congress. What a bummer!! The next time you visit your story uncle, you will never see him the same way again, your respect goes down by magnitudes. Ideally speaking, the authentic uncle would tell you the stories and then take you on a day trip to the Library of Congress and make it an educational outing and set you for a lifetime of adventure and learning rather than an expose by accidental discovery or indirect information from elsewhere. This kind of dishonesty is what I talking about, it spoils the mood for everyone.
Now we millennials can say for sure that we all have had a fucked up childhood :) Not really cos the 90's were the best decades of all, confluence of new technologies with a simpler time when people were nice and smiling and there were no worries or climate change issues and certainly no FB, Insta, Tik Tok nonsense...Gen X are already fucked beyond recognition....where do we go next from here is any ones lucky guess...
Authentic music is plentiful, if we can avoid calling Enigma a creative pursuit maybe we can give the original artists the respect and acknowledgement they genuinely deserve from us as we have come to be acquainted with THEIR music by proxy of Michel's rip offs, and we paid for it too, sheesh. Imma stick to Jazz and Medieval music anyways, so I loose nothing really, I do not care about Engima albums anymore...it was a nice charade Michel, thanks for that theme park experience. I guess we have grown out of it and moved on after all..

Maybe you are confusing spectator with observer, investigator and witness.
Fact is you lack politeness and panache. I on the other hand could say exactly what you said too but more on the lines of "do we really have to be so personal on a dusted record that is literally 3 decades old?" instead of "verbal pollution".
