    O'Sullivan is by many if not all indeed concidered the GOAT. He is also one of the fastest players, which makes him even more entertaing to watch. And he is ambidaxtrian.
    The rules are fairly simple, there are red balls and coloured balls. You have to hit a red ball first, if it's potted you go for a coloured one, then a red and so on. The reds stay in the pockets, but the colours are put back. When all reds are potted you have to pot the colours in order. The reds are worth one point and the colours are worth 2-7 points with the black being the 7.
    There are some more rules, like "touching ball", but that's the basics.
    Snooker tables are quite big and the pockets are tight, and it's standardized, ie you'll not find larger or smaller tables.

      There are smaller 3/4 tables and both Snooker and Billiards are played on Pool sized tables......but Championship games are only played on the standard English table, and private clubs etc rarely use the smaller tables.
      Pool halls, Billiards and Snooker rooms sometimes use smaller tables to fit more in.

    For someone who’ìs pretty much new to snooker, you’ve watched completely the wrong video. You’ve now got a totally warped impression of snooker rules that will be hard to rectify in your head.
    These clips were unusual events, comedic events and exhibition events.
    A couple for example:
    1. The clip (and its companion afterwards) in which the seated player sneezes… was a comedy skit, not real, featuring two of Britain’s funniest traditional comedians (the ref and the seated player).
    2. The player scattering the balls as he was removing the cue and rest from the table. No, it *was not* intentional. He tried to remove the cue and rest before the cue ball came round to contact the rest and/or cue. These rests can be relatively heavy. While trying to quickly remove it, it slipped out of control. Simple.

    A 147 is the maximum score you can get for clearing the entire table yourself, this requires you to pot the black ball after every red one.
    In that play, he was unable to place the cue ball in a good spot for the black, to actually get the max score, but he still managed to pot a very difficult shot.
    And he managed to place the cue ball very well for the yellow ball(2 points), which is the next ball after all the red balls.
    Red(1), Yellow(2), Green(3), Brown(4), Blue(5), Pink(6), Black(7).

  • @anglosaxon5874

    To get the max score of 147, you have to knock in one red followed by a black X15 [as there are 15 red balls] then do the colours in order: yellow [2pts]; green [3pts]; brown [4pts]; blue [5pts]; pink [6pts] and black [7pts]. Red = 1pt.

      You are just including a foul at the start which has nothing to do with the player who then shoots 147 as the other player gave him the points from a foul.

    • @lukebarton5075
      @lukebarton5075 2 місяці тому

      @Andrew
      He is correct though. He’s not saying the point come from fouls. He’s referring to a free-ball scenario. If you have a free-ball before any reds are potted then player nominates a colour to become an extra red. Pot that, then a black , then regular max break for a break of 155. 1 + 7 + 147.
      You are also right in saying that a 147 is referred to a a maximum break, as normally it is.

    • @dangermouse8466
      @dangermouse8466 Місяць тому

      @@AndrewAHayes Technically, there are two maximum breaks. First is when you pot a red followed by a black x15, followed by the colours in order. That will give you a 147. The second is if a player fouls, leaves a free ball ie one colour is counted as a red, and the opponent then pots 16 reds and 16 blacks and the colours in order, then that is a 155. Both are considered maximum breaks. Any other break is not considered a maximum unless, if you count the special Saudi Arabian sponsored tournament where you can make a 167.

    The points value of each ball is as follows; Reds-1 each. Yellow-2, Green-3, Brown-4, Blue-5, Pink-6, Black-7.
    To score 147, you must sink a Red, then the Black, then another Red, then the Black, and so on, until all the Reds (15 in all) are gone. After you pot the last Black, you must then sink the coloured balls in the order above; Yellow, Green, Brown, Blue, Pink, Black.
    The table is 12 feet long, by 6 feet wide.

    The maximum break of 147 is achieved when one player pots every red ball, each with a black ball and then all the coloured balls in order. (When a red ball is potted the player then has the opportunity to pot a coloured ball. If successful they can then attempted another red and another colour until they miss a shot. The coloured ball is then returned to its spot on the table).
    For the maximum break all 15 reds have to be potted with 15 black balls. 1 point for each red and 7 points for each black, a total of 120 points. Then they pot the coloured balls in order: yellow, 2 points; green, 3 points; brown, 4; blue, 5; pink, 6 and black, 7, a total of 147.

    One thing you have to understand about snooker is that the table isn't just bigger, but the holes are rounded and points outwards and are narrower compared to the balls, which are also smaller. So it's more different than you think if you're been playing pool. I thought that I would do well in snooker, because I was a fairly good pool player with more than a hundred run in straight pool. When all reds are gone, knock in the colours lowest value first (yellow) until you reach the black. Don't miss everything (a miss) especially on purpose (a miss and a foul). 1st things first, its Snoooker! Its not like Pool at all. For starters, a Pro Snooker Table is 12 feet long and over 6feet wide plus the pockets are much smaller. When you see one for the first time, they are intimidating, they are Huge. T o get a high score, you obviously pot the balls that are rated highest, in this case Black (7points). At the start of a game the first player has to hit a Red which will be in the set up triangle. his aim is to hit the red ball without disturbing the triangle of reds and put the cue ball(white) back down the table at the start position and on the cushion tight (baulk cushion) trying to make it as difficult as possible for the other player, To pot any colour you must first pot a red. in the break where Ronnie O'Sullivan makes his 147 he starts after his opponent has made the first shot. To get a max break Ronnie has to pot a red then a black continuously through all the 15 reds and a black. Now he has to pot all the colours in sequence, Yellow(2) Green(3)Brown(4) Blue(5) Pink(6) and the final Black(7) giving a total of 147. WHATS amazing here, is that he did it in 5mins 30sec- the fastest ever. Just one more thing, to carry on the break after potting a ball, its obvious that the white ball should be in the best position be able to pot another ball. Watch Ronnie, see where his white ball finishes up, almost always, just where he wants it to be, thats the skill part.

    The reason the crowd did not cheer, it was during covid, so no crowd. PS Its pronounced snewker not snuker.

    You saw a speeded up clip of it in this video but you absolutely need to react to the full video of Ronnie O'Sullivan's 147 break in 5 minutes.
    147 is the most you can score in a single frame of snooker. It's like bowling the perfect game. But Ronnie did it in record time.

    @ArizeOW Місяць тому

    I saw you confused on some reactions of the audience. Most of the time people are applauding for the setup. When you hit the white ball, you can manipulate the direction it goes - back to the left, small spin to the right and so on. If someone pocketed the right ball and also did a great setup for the next move, that's where people start to cheer because that takes a lot of skill.

    The reason Ronnie and Selby didn't look happy when Ronnie potted the red from being snookered is that Ronnie had taken a few shots already and missed and weren't going for the pot he just wanted to hit the red but fluked it, Ronnie is the type of player that hates fluking a pot because he doesn't feel like he deserves it and feels bad for his opponent.

  • @MrChippiechappie
    @MrChippiechappie 2 місяці тому

    The rules are simple you pot a red followed by a colour then when there are no more reds the colours are potted in sequence yellow, green, brown, blue, pink and black. If you go in off pot the white that's four points to your opponent you have the choice to make your opponent play again or play the shot yourself, if the its not deemed a good enough attempt ie your opponent you can put the balls back in the positions they were in and make your opponent play again was snookered until either they hit the intended ball or until its deemed they made a good enough attempt to hit the intended ball. I hope this clears things up a bit for you.

    The opponents are not always happy, but in theory snooker is a game for Gentlemen, there can be some fairly hefty bonuses for tournament high breaks and specifically Maximum Breaks, maximum breaks only win one frame and sometimes player comes down after and loses the match !

    Game goes in a nutshell - red, any colour, red ,any colour, etc...until you miss then opponent starts red, any colour etc. again until all reds are potted...During this stage every colour potted is put back on the table and reds are not....When all reds are potted you start on the colours in order of yellow, green, brown, blue, pink and black and they are not put back on the table....Points are Red=1, Yellow=2, Green=3, Brown=4, Blue=5, Pink=6, Black=7.

    I noticed you used the term 'English' referring to putting spin on the ball ( I presume that us English are crafty folk who bend the rules, no?). I Played an American at pool once who told me they do that, I then replied ' we call it an American when you go in off'. 'Really! he replied.... and after the required pause I said 'no'. :)

    I love the fact that Americans are beginning to watch snooker, but what bugs me is that unless they actually try playing it, not one of them can appreciate how incredibly difficult the game is. This isn't pool on a bigger table, this is quite possibly the most difficult game in the world. In fact
    I got back from my local snooker hall about three hours ago, I love playing snooker, pool is a child's game in comparison.

    i like looking snooker but play only pool.. i like the shorter round duration and easier foul handling of pool. for the 2nd scene - first was a foul as he needed to hit a red - so the balls are reset to the origin position where he again has to play bank first as he can't reach the red. and 2nd try he did not just "not foul" as he hit a red - he potted a very lucky shot.
    Sullivan at 2:40 - look the predicted shot and how the yellow poted in the end - LUL. But sulivan is a genious even if this was luck.
    147 - on the rules you play red then another color where black has the highest value then red again etc. other colors are back on the table as long there are no more reds. Then you clear the table from the lowest value to black. if you can play red/black until all read are gone and pot every other color you got 147 and most likely a high price. (This usually means that you clear the table in one single turn. Fouls give the oponent i think 4 points. you allways start a turn by potting a red, "snooker" is if you end your turn by not potting and hiding the white somewhere from where you can not play a red directly. Making it hard for the oponent to score. You can end your turn deliberetly (by playing a valid ball) if you think the position of the balls are so bad you want your opponent face the problem after which the balls may have better positions for you.

    The sneeze was from a comedy show. It's not a real game. The first clip I think involved a game with a timer involved. That's why he was in a hurry to pot the ball and hit the ball as soon as it stopped moving. No wonder you are confused. This is not the way snooker is normally played.

    First clip is speed snooker! Second was a fluke, third is from a comedy show..staged, and the 4th, 5th was a fluke, 6th is a fluke miss, 7th speed snooker last second pink, 8th is making the gesture by accident that forfeit the match, 9th is fluke red leaving easy pink...but he didn't realise, 10th a dynamic double of the red, 1th is missed the red by snooker the player behind the yellow, be gets out the snooke with a fluke into the middle, 12th Celebrate early and loses the game, 13th...messes up everything with the long rest, 15th red fluke in middle around the blue, 16th triple plant, 17th Ronnie playing one handed, 18th deliberately playing off the knuckle to get out of a snooker to pot the yellow (no reaction from crowd because is none is qualifying matches), 19th Shawn Murphy on a possible 147 total clearance, pots the red, then pots and incredibly difficult black to keep the break going, and even got back perfect for the yellow, 20th Ronnie plays 'left handed' to pot a red, and screw back up the table to leave himself on the balck to keep a possible 147 break going, 21, Alex Higgins hits the most incredible shots on pink and pots the black with one hand in the most difficult middle pocket! 22nd bad fluke to drop the white in and leave his opponent the win, 23rd, Ronnie starting the fastest EVER 147 maximum break ever seen live on TV 5mins 8 secs, 24th winning the World Championship year. The rules are you must pot a red and any colour alternately to stay on the table and rack up points. A red is worth 1 point...each colour from yellow to black is worth 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 respectively, and you must pot them in the order of yellow, green, brown, blue, pink and black at the end, when all reds have been potted. If you pot 15 reds, with 15 blacks, and then all the colours in the right order, this is a maximum break of 147 points, but is incredibly difficult, and incredibly rare.! OK Ryan,,,??
