Obviously we lost what you were saying at the end Steve, but it works pretty well. It could be improved by making a three sided extension to the scoop with two side shaped to the radius of the wheel with an extension almost to the bottom of the wheel. Obviously you can make it all from one piece of sheet steel and bend it then screw it to the bottom of the scoop. That way it will pick up almost everything thrown off of the wheel. Voila! Almost no grinding dust!

This works well and for 41.00 it was simple, quick and easy.... What the hell do you think I do all day???? PLAY in the shop? Hell no, no time for that!!!!
ALL my time is tied up editing stupid videos for essentially free! :)

I am in the same boat with tinnitus, 38 years on an ambulance, and 40 years of woodworking, which has done a number on my hearing. Feel for you.

Greetings from Nacogdoches!! Hope all is well with you. Nice scoop. There is an aluminum heat resistant tape that is used for Corian type countertops to protect against heat from cooktops. During my countertop days, this was excellent tape. Unfortunately I don’t have a source or name for this material. On the South Bend project, the plan is to start taking it apart in a couple of weeks. Quite some time ago, I was lucky enough to watch a nighttime shuttle launch. What a show!!

Nice setup that should suck up most of the dust. You’ll have to move the hood up as the wheel is dressed smaller so magnets are a good idea. I use a large upright aluminum plate with small embedded magnets on the left end that catches most of the dust. When the plate gets coated I take it to the trash can and wipe it off.

It will need to be higher but I have 2 or 3 more things to try on this before I get too serious. It's just a cheap one to play with.

Steve. Harbor freight ball joint indicator set. 40 bucks. 63656 item. It's flexible like a coolant nozzle but locks in place. That could position and hold the second duct boot to the other grinder.

Hey Steve. I hope your day is treating you well my friend. Will just the coolant flow not be enough to keep the dust controled ? Mine does. I am shoulder to shoulder with you on space flights. Oh how I want a Buck Rogers Jet Pack ! For multible machines on this system They make stop /on gate like valves for this system. They work GREAT. Looks like to me you have a winner happening my friend. WOOHOO for you fella !

IT's a great day.... The landing made my year! Trying to just use mist coolant but it will not tame the sparks.... I cut out a lot of video but all the last parts had coolant running .... Maybe the flood would work much better but the machine had it's flood shields removed and lost... I just picked up some material to make more...

Unfortunately, as of now, there is no cure for tinnitus, no matter what you read, or whomever you speak to. They are doing promising research, but we won’t see anything definite for years. I have the problem as well, so I can sympathize. It just seems as though everything is loud. I’ve been using the 3M hearing protectors for several years and they work very well. You just have to remember to wear them for every loud process, no exceptions. Very nice grinder. I wish I had the room for that. I have a small one that I’ve been upgrading. Just not the same.

Steve, if I may say so, you seem to be hitting your stride in producing these videos. Would a jet cooler in the conduit help with the sparks? Probably unnecessary......It's always a pleasure to watch your videos.

    • @10swatkins
      @10swatkins  3 місяці тому +1

The duct and vacuum is made for metal so even if sparks get into the vacuum there is no problem.

Don and I are doing fine, thank very much for asking, means a lot to me...
I have been evaluating continuing on UA-cam. IT takes a lost of time and effort that My wife is not really happy with.. The Chanel stagnates if I don't put out a lot of videos and is not growing much without 60 hours of work a month. Since UA-cam is not paying very much my wife is not happy with the time I spend here.

How’s the green pot plant holder lathe repairs going and the Axelson 16(I think it is), bridge port rebuild, Oil change in the big planner, Cincinnati mill,
Ohh and did you get to bolt down the little lathe to its base????
Has Don brought anymore toys to rebuild and has he extended his shop for the third time yet????
Hope the bee hives have done well.

It was taking a lot of it away... Maybe a few tweaks might help.... Mainly the bottom might need to be opened up as the machine has a lot of vacuum power and could redirect it more if it had a more open bottom... We will see..
