- I'm a Dell / Gold Key comic collector Newbie, but I fell in love with the painted art covers. Many comic collectors don’t know about them. Check out this videos to see some amazing retro art on these Gold Key and Dell comic books.

😎👍 Gold Key comics were always part of my spinner rack hauls! Adventure ,humor , mystery stories , TV /Movie adaptations ... Gold Key just had a great appeal for me. Turok , Magnus , Little Lulu , Doctor Spektor , Dagar are a majority of books I still have ; some of my beloved Tarzan books got lost during a house move. Your collection is 👍👍👍👍! Every book a winner IMO!
Gold Key were so strange. As a kid, I stayed away from them. I think they were more popular and available the decade before I was buying comics. I certainly appreciate them now.
Lush covers is right! My fave is the Dark Shadows…
The Dark Shadows comics are expensive. I think I paid $12 for that one and it’s far from mint condition. Still, many of the Dell comics are from when I was born or before!
I have a complete set of GK comics that took a lifetime to compile. Selling all my others but will keep them as they were my childhood and first comics. The stories are average but there is something special about them.
Sorry. I made this a while ago. What is a GK comic?
First, I liked your video. Please be certain of that. I've acquired fair sized collections of Dell, Gold Key, and Whitman comic books over the years. Just a couple of things I'd like to point out. 1) Golden Age comics (Mid to late 1930's thru to mid 1950's) were 10 cents. The price increase from 10 cents to 12 cents occurred in 1962, so 12 cent comic books; and some of the 15 cent comics books that you showed to us are Silver Age. 2) Your Whitman comics might not be reprints. Western Publishing, the parent company of both Gold Key and Whitman, sold their Gold Key comics to conventional stores. However, Western Publishing also their comic books in 3 bag sets to less conventional venues such as grocery stores, gas stations, air ports, or bus stations (Yes, believe it or not. No pun intended). The bag comic sets were sold under the Whitman imprint. Unsold news stand comic books could be returned by the vendor to the publisher for a refund. The bagged sets could not. The way to check your Whitman comics to see if it's a reprint is to check the information at the bottom of the first. If there is only one copyright date, it's from a bag set. If there are two copyright dates, it's a reprint. I hope you find this helpful. Happy collecting!
Thank you!!! That was detailed. I should research more before I open my mouth!!!
@@garagegeek4863 Thank you. I'm very fond of Western Publishing comic books. They have an interesting history, and I learned a lot about it over the years. In fact, when I first started reading and collecting comic books as 8 year old boy, Gold Key was my 2nd favorite comic book company after DC. I hope I wasn't too verbose in my previous comment. Happy collecting!
This video totally makes me want to run out and buy more old comics…for a while I was pursuing Space Family Robinson, but eventually I bought all the really cheap copies in town, and I put off deciding if I wanted to spend more money on the remaining issues…
Send me all those!!! Lol. I’m buying up all the cheap ones. In fact, I need to do an updated painted covers video. Hey, my hubby can’t go to the Comics and Drinks event, so you can join me there. I already asked Larry’s Library, but he said no. This would be a great chance to pick up more old comics you don’t need (especially while drinking!!!). I’ll see you there!!
@@garagegeek4863 I just need a dimensional portal to get there in a timely fashion.
It it’s got a Time Machine function, you can show up multiple times.
