A great rig, for sure, but it would be about as easy to dig one by hand as to make that machine, unless you know what you are doing, which I don’t.

Haha that’s funny a buddy of mine and I did something almost identical to that about 8 years ago. Ours rotated a lot faster, went through multiple layers of rock, we pumped a slurry to flush it out, and stopped around 120’ or 130’. He still uses the well. It was all homemade and something I will never forget. People were amazed that we used an 2 or 3hp electric motor from an old water pump.

    • @SuperFastDriver

This machine is very good , one if the best , professional level thinking procedure wise , but not that cheap and not simple . If you think it s so rudimentary do it it one hour . I m curious even the material total and all the pieces dimensions, it s a lot of engineering and those who made it are great at mechanical and even electrical works.

You need to think like the well drillers that built and designed the rigs you use today, my grandfather was one of them, he would have loved this idea, laughed at your comment and simply told you build a pneumatic hammer attachment to hang at the bottom of the "drill rods", honestly i could build a system like this for 5 inch wells that would give me a rig that is light and limber enough to get to locations other drillers dare not go. As well as reduce the amount of property damage or clearing that needs to be done when drilling wells, usually wells aren't drilled in places easy to get to, especially these days. No shit welldrillers these days are dieing left and right, none of them want to improve the process, they inherited a way to do it. And will never ever consider a possible alternative to the problems their business deals with in our modern Era.

I apologize that you got caught up in the crossfire there lol. I'm frustrated that we lost the passion for the garage engineers of our history, the ones our modern Era wouldn't have existed if we didn't have them.
Don't sell yourself or your idea short, build it yourself, work with a single local bank or some e who you can trust for initial funding, have a slow growth plan that garintees you will always meet or exceed your expected goals, pay off the initial debt and never use anything other then money earned to grow. If you sent a pipes down behind your drill head, you could've gravity fed water into the top, then pumped it back up at the bottom to clear the hole of dirt and other fine debris. With a simple filter, and I mean simple like a couple of t-shirts and a sediment bucket, you could use the same water over and over again, mostly clearing the hole until you reached your desired depth. At which point stop letting water flow back in, wait a while for the slurry at the bottom to dry out, then raised the drill head.

@@SuperFastDriver If you don't mind refitting your drill's power head, you can install a drill swivel to inject water down the power shaft to the head. This will allow the debris to bias up the shaft to be siphoned off at the top. It's a little more complicated, and you might want to buy the part instead of building it, but it would allow you to drill non-stop until you hit your desired depth. Combines with the return pipe for sediment, it could increase and simplify operation... if you do this kind of thing a lot...

The problem with rotary augers is they coat the hole with the clay you are extracting essentially creating a impervious layer (like a pipe) to the water you want access. If you want to improve the well and access to the water you access you will need to flush the clay from the sides with a compressor. Work it hard, flush the clay and your well will improve and provide more water. Water moves through coarse particles ( rock and gravel) but will not pass through fine soil (clay ) that is why pots and vessels made a thousand year ago hold olive oil an water. Get rid of the clay. Open the gaps and improve your water yeild

wow you guys filled around the well casing with stone right to the top. You will contaminate the ground water with surface water run off. There is a reason here in Canada well drillers must be licensed, to prevent exactly what you did. You have to use bentonite grout to seal around the casing to stop surface water from running down and contaminating the ground water source.

  • @southronjr1570

Really nice job but I didnt see you putting anything in the hole outside of the casing to seal out ground water. Here in the US, we put small rock in the hole ouside of the casing to filter out mud and sediment, then when the rocks reach about 3 feet above the slitted pipe, we place bentonite clay or sometimes even concrete up ground level to keep ground water runoff out of the well. Where we live, in the groundwater runoff we have bacteria that can make people sick such as giardia and salmonella. If either of those get into your house water system it will make everyone have a really bad day to a bad few weeks with toilet paper and toilet time in high demand at your house.
