I picked up the camo version with the blue liner for 29 dollars at Fleet Farm. I have not been impressed with other Gerbers in this price range, but this cut paper like butter right out of the box. Very impressed. I put it on a high speed leather stropping wheel and it could shave. The trick is getting the burr off. I did a cutting pass at the blade angle on both sides several times, then ran the apex across a piece of softwood (this really helps get the burr off). Several light passes across the corner of a block of pinewood will take most of it off. Then I went back to the power stropping wheel at a slightly lesser angle, very lightly, to work the last bit of burr off. Once done, and that nicely sharpened true apex was present without a folding burr, it shaved hair easily. The key is getting all of the burr off. Super knife for the money.
The pivot can be loosened with a torx wrench to achieve a bench made fall down blade action. A little lube helps too. I prefer silicon based, but straight up wd40 will work fine as well. Early versions received a heavy duty lock tight at the factory. They cannot be loosened without destroying the tiny torx threads. But the good news is they (the early versions) seem to be adjusted just right for that bench made drop of the blade. The later ones have no lock tight and can be adjusted. A light version lock tight would be recommended.
As another data point, I got my Sumo in from Drop and mine has smooth action right out of the box. I do find it a bit difficult than most knives to open with the cutout, adding a zip tie now.
I’ll admit to being a steel snob and usually wouldn’t give this a second look but man the design on this is just so good I sure would like to see this with some s30v and a better spring in the lock and it would be a beast
Almost any axis style lock not from. Benchmade I find needs two adjustments. 1. Loosen up that pivot screw, it's almost always over tightened. 2. Lube up the lock bar. That's fixed almost any imitation axis lock I've come across.
@@Tctbnl Just a followup, got mine in today to review soon. Had the same issues you described, one side of the pivot sadly had red locktite but the other didn't. Loosened the right side of pivot by a quarter turn, lubed the washers and lock bar now opens and closes almost as well as my Benchmades do.
Just bought it. I like it. Easy finger flick or inertia open with the pivot lock. Nice burgundy color accent. I saw this one and the blue one side by side this one looked way nicer. Its around $40. Nice addition to the collection.
The Highbrow came out last year with the same pivot style lock. Another Chinese made knife which was a lot smaller. It was an assisted opener that worked well in the same steel. I thought that the aluminum scales on it were huge and I would have preferred a different styles blade
I find the Thumb hole difficult to open but mine has smooth action and if you hold the pivot lock down i can flip it open easily from a closed position. I really like this knife. its been in my pocket since i bought it. The Last couple Gerber Knives I have purchased DID NOT come sharp out of the package and I have had to put an fresh edge on them out of the box. It seems to hold the edge OK but not super. I will be expecting to routinely sharpen it often but for the Price Point it seems like a good value.
Picked up one of these for my 11 year olds first real knife. He got the blue and grey with the plain blade. Its been great so far, his came with a good action not nearly as stiff as in the video and the blade is definitely alot sharper to.
@@Tctbnl he's definitely loving it, I can hear him clicking away in the other room. I think it will be a good knife for him to learn to sharpen to cuz it's definitely gonna dull out being of lower quality steel.
I have had mine now for a while. you can get a nice edge on. ibacked the screw out 2 or 3 threads and it flips open and closed very fast with two fingers.i have big hands and for me this knife feels and works good for me
Just bought this on Amazon today. I got the Cyan color with the stonewash finish. I’ll let you know what I think when I get it tomorrow. May get both models. Thanks for the review! 🔪🖤🗡
My bugout did that when I got it and im like i don't have time for this crap, so I backed off the pivot screw just a pinch and it fell shut with ease. Still centered and everything so maybe something to try before trying to break it in 🙂
Really no blade play or anything I did that too but I had blade play took me hours to play around with it to try and get it we’re I wanted it @@anthonytuccillo6274
@@anthoneylomeli447 mine has zero blade play but like when you adjust the pivot its literally such a small amount, not on some knives where you do a half turn or whatever its nothing like that. Now that you have it loose with blade play, tighten it little by little until you get it where you want. And by little I mean barely anything, it doesn't take much. You could also add some lube in the pivot and that could help also. Most Knives especially hella expensive benchmades are not created equally. You may just need to open and close it 1000 times 😬
I just ordered mine form BHQ. Thought it might be a nice cheaper option to fill the fidgety goodness that is BM knives. I’m sure if u really wanted to u cousin take alit part, polish the pivot areas, oil it up and see if it’s improved. But over time it’s should get broke In. I enjoyed your video, especially since, like you said, no one else has done a review. 👍🏻 keep it up!
@@Tctbnl well we will see, im a butcher so I dont use my meat cutting knives for plastic, cardboard, all the rough shit......so this will get put through alot. Lets see how it holds up hit you back in a week.
I have one of these on the way from Gerber as a replacement for a piece of crap. I`ll beat the crap out of it and let you know what happens. I usually start out by disassembling my knives to get a good look. I`ll update you on that as well.
I looks NOICE , but performance is not so spicy. It would be much better with at least D2 and better action. Good review brother I've been waiting for a damn review on this knife for months!
Can you give any updates on this knife? I desperately want one but the action hurt my soul right away... should i get one of these? Dammit it's gorgeous and would be a good food knife too
Well considering it’s a 40$ axis lock and not a 140$ axis lock (of which I’ve had friends have Benchmades act the same) I’d say just throw some oil in the pivot and use it. It will break in. You can’t hold a 40$ knife to Benchmade standards
Well that’s disappointing. That is a beautiful looking blade but it came dull as a butter knife and the lock isn’t working as it should. I was really wanting one. Not so sure about it anymore. Guess I’ll have to call it an F Bomb until they get it working properly
I have mine coming tomorrow from BHQ. I'm kind of mixed now though, I'm excited to get a new knife, but I feel to make it better for edc, I'm going to definitely be doing some work on it tomorrow evening on the bench. First thing I do with every knife is oil it up, put my own edge on it(factory edge is way subpar in my opinion), then I'll carry it. This one seems as if I'll definitely need to do it. What I'd like to see is maybe a week review, or a month, or a certain amount of time in pocket to see if your review changes or not.
That’s a good looking POS I like the design BUT the steel is really disappointing they could of went with D2 which is still not a great steel but much better than what they have on this also if your going to do a compression lock make it work right it’s like they had a good idea but the execution was just terrible. Sorry but That’s a no from me dog.
A better direction for Gerber, it's a definite improvement from their stuff in the past decade.
Agreed 💯

For me lately Gerber really seems to be hit or miss. Either it’s perfect right out of the box or there are a lot of issues

Not sure if you said it and I missed it or if it wasn't said, but is it running on bearings or phosphor bronze washers
Don’t think I said, but honestly I haven’t cracked it open to check
Shame about the performance - cause the blade looks awesome. Any chance that a good stropping would improve the performance?

Did u do any cutting before those cut tests? That edge looks jacked! Good vid.
0 cuts. The edge was all kinds of messed up, got it fixed now though

Made in China !! that's a set back in its self with Gerber.
it does look cool , with a fitting name for the design.
Gerber has that tendency to make the higher end knives in Portland, and everything else overseas
Designed in Portland and made in China, just like Antifa! I think I’m going to have to get one anyway. 🦅
