@@longtalljay Tony Rice is great too. Saw him live once a few years ago. The thing about Tommy though, is he plays so many guitar techniques and a variety of styles of music so well. Jazz, blues, blue grass, pop, country, folk, classical etc. Electric or acoustic guitar. Fingerstyle, flat pick, finger pick, no picks flat pick and fingers, harmonics, incredibly fast or ballads with great feel.
I’ve never seen a man and a guitar where it appears he has an intimate relationship with his guitar… truly inspirational and alluring… To hear of his love for my beloved homeland- America, makes me love him even more… What a truly honorable man😊🥰
Wow, just wow! Everytime he plays, something magic happens. His timbre is beautiful, the blend between the thumb pick muting alongside open resonate chord progressions on top makes it sound like there are 3 guitar players at times. We are truly blessed to have this man on the planet. Thee best acoustic guitar player to have ever walked the earth. What a player 👏 🙌 👌
Here I am, March 2023, watching Tommy play songs I’ve heard him play hundreds of times, completely engrossed at 3:30 AM in the morning. No other artist has this effect on me. It’s pure magic.
When I was a kid in rural Australia, having beers with mates and watching Tommy and his older brother Phil (sadly, passed 5 years ago, equal best guitarist with Tommy - no one could split 'em) - I never thought I'd be watching Tommy blowing minds the world over.
TOMMY EMMANUEL - A Mostly Beatles Medley (December 11, 2021) He's been an American citizen for three years now, based in Nashville. Pre-covid he was performing up to 300 'dates' a year. He's older now, but plays with as much power and precision as ever. He'll take your breath away in concert. The last time he played Winnipeg the small newspaper advertisement said simply: “Greatest guitarist I've ever seen” - Eric Clapton. It was his second visit to Winnipeg within a year: The first was the result (I'd like to think) of my politely pestering him for a few years to “include the world's coldest city in your travels.” I got two tickets to the 'meet-and-greet' before the show (my guitarist grandson Thomas and me). After the show, Tommy said he'd enjoyed the Winnipeg welcome so much, “We've already arranged to come back here in one year.” A guitarist friend just shared this video -- recorded just a few weeks ago in Boston, at a small charity benefit show for an audience of 100 who gave him a standing ovation after his 'mostly Beatles' medley. If you can spare 14 minutes, The Beatles segment starts at the 1:01:33 mark (of this two hour show) after an endearing recollection by Tommy about his “Mum”: “I remember,” he says, “my Mother saying to me - back when the Beatles were HUGE in Australia with five songs in the Top 10, my Mother said, 'Don't listen to that rubbish!' “Years later I'm playing a concert in the town in Australia where my Mom would eventually be living. I'm in a big hall and I play my version of MICHELLE. At the end of the night, my Mom comes up to me and says, 'What was that BEAUTIFUL piece of music!?' Every time I experience a video of Mr. Emmanuel, I'm truly awestruck in a huge way. I believe no other guitarist will reach his level of his technique and guitar artistry for many years in the future. I may be wrong,; only time will tell. His mastery of chords, melody, harmonics and bass enable him to accompany his vocals, in my opinion, avail to his audiences an almost total musical miracles before their presence.
Saw Tommy DEC.8, 2021 at the Murat, Egyptian Room right about the time he did this show. So much style and class, you can hear the Chet Atkins influence, (only better, heresy I know) his idol in a lot of his music and picking.
I've been following Tommy for many years. I love watching his amazing virtuosity but it's his musical sense that really gets me. I mean, he has such a deep knowledge of what sounds good musically; beautiful chord progressions with very appealing melodies. His spirit, his persona is part of it also. He loves what he's doing and he draws you in to share the experience with him.
There are guitarist that are the top of the field that you look up to and admire and try to learn from. And then there’s Tommy who makes us feel like we’re toddlers strumming a toy. Lol love ya Tommy. Christmas Eve isn’t the same without you.
Extraordinary player and a blessing that we get see and hear this man create music. Privileged to have attended a TE guitar camp in Australia what a wonderful time of music and joy.
The speach before the song and how Tommy sings and plays I Still Can't Say Goodbye is one of the most moving and beautiful moments I have seen in music. So genuine, so honest, so deeply felt yet civil and far from any pathos or excessive emotions.
Tommy, you are just a totally gifted guitarist. You have put in the hard yards for many years which is obvious and you feel every emotion that magically turns into beautiful melodies in your playing. Your playing is so inspiring and powerful and precise. I have been a big fan for many years being a guitar player myself from Queensland, Australia. Yes I have all your CD'S mate! You are a legend and we all are blessed that we all can enjoy your music. You have the WOW factor and there is just no more to say except this- 'perfection plus'. 🎸🎼🎵🎶💿😊😘

He has guitar camps quite regularly, and often has local talent open for him when he tours ... he's all about bringing new and talented players into the light. He'll share the stage with pretty much anyone and happily jams with fans at meet and greets as well. He's a true ambassador of music 💜

This is a great capture of Tommy’s true sound on stage. I’ve watched many many videos of Tommy live over many years, and this is how he really sounds live. Congrats to those involved…magically capturing the ultimate TE sound.

I've seen Tommy play live 12 times and have seen just about every video of him on the internet and I've seen him hit ONE bum note lol. He actually stopped and re-started the song lol. It's ridiculous.
Mark Knopfler was lucky to play with Tommy! Tommy acting all humble as usual. Mark's ego sounds rather large saying he doesn't play anybody else's songs? Tommy you are a hero to so many humans. Best ever guitarist and such a gent.

Tommy always surprises me. There's always a gem or 100 in every performance that catches me off guard. I try to soak in as much as possible.
