Ireland recognised the PLO as the proper representative of Palestine in 1980. It has worked within the EU for decades to try to bring other countries to the point where the whole EU would recognise Palestine. The genocide has caused the government to go ahead with Spain and Norway and not wait for any other countries, especially becuase of Germany's blind pro-Israel stance.
