Over 20 years, 11 albums and hundreds of performances around the globe, Savatage’s dynamic music - which mixes elements of thrash, progressive, power metal and classic hard rock- earned the band a passionate cult following.
Founded in Tampa, Florida by brothers Jon and Criss Oliva, Savatage saw their many musical triumphs overshadowed by personal tragedy. Albums such as 1987’s “Hall of the Mountain King” - their first of eight collaborations with producer and mentor Paul O’Neill - and 1991’s riveting “Streets: A Rock Opera” continue to be celebrated to this day. The death of Criss Oliva on the heels of the breakthrough success of 1993’s “Edge of Thorns” altered the group’s trajectory considerably.
The band experienced a renaissance with their 1995 album “Dead Winter Dead,.” and continued to display a flair for theatricality of their own on their final two albums. An epic reunion performance at 2015’s Wacken Festival before 80,000 fans - showed proof that the crowds will never be gone.

I got John Olivia's autograph when he was getting on the tour bus in Kansas City back in 1989
That is Alex Skolnick playing the guitar, Criss was already dead by this time.

TY I knew he played shortly with them and knew it didnt look like Crhis but It didnt dawn on me it was Alex. He looked a bit different I guess I know him having that gray streak in his hair forever it seems.

Oliva is the soul of this song, Zek did well, but the final screams in oliva's voice are EPIC!

I have the vhs version of this.In early 80s Alex had a car accident while playing this song loudly in his car.What a bad coincidence :/ RIP Criss

Alex did a great job here.. He's a killer guitarist, with a very unique style and many aces in his sleeve but Savatge's music has many unique traits, character stands on its own in its diversity and creativity.. So no matter how great player someone might be, it's basically a matter of really reaching its substance and find your place in it.. That says a lot about Alex's flexibility and openness as a mucisian in general

Assisti esse show no ano do seu lançamento ainda em fita VHS........tinha um amigo na época que era fanático em Savatage...... inclusive o Sirens me foi apresentado em vinil pelo mesmo amigo! Lá se vão mais de 24 anos.......anos depois ele se mudou da minha cidade; tempinho bom de muito som e grandes amizades! DVD espetacular!

What!?! I've always liked savatage and testament but only now realize that they had the same guitarist..... How did I miss that?
+mitch mclean Criss Olivia(Jon's Brother the original singer) was the original guitarist. Skolnick filled in after his death and recorded on Handful of Rain and Dead winter Dead.
+TheDeadWinterDead -- A loss as tragic as Rhoads and Hendrix! Criss Oliva was more CONSISTENTLY great in his 20's than Van Halen or Malmsteen, as much a shredder as either of them and yet with a style every bit as soulful as Schenker.

The crowd would have gone bat shit crazy if the original singer would have stepped in for at least the last staccato screams at the end. Even if both singers sang, at the end the crescendo would have been epic.

I think I know why Oliva had Zack do this one. Oliva's a baritone, and epic high screams wear out a baritone faster and are more difficult to produce as he ages.

He was playing guitar throughout the whole song in the front with the others. He played keyboards only for the intro and outro.
